Past glory. Rooms need renovation and price needs to show this

Dec 31st, 2019

So I stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Gent Expo as I visited Gent for one day. There were things we liked and disliked. What I liked was the location. It's indeed close to the Gent Expo and a tram stop. Plus, a taxi from the center of Gent to the hotel will not set you back more than 25 euros. Furthermore, the staff at the reception was friendly and more than willing to give some tips as to how to go to the city centre and back. The breakfast offered plenty of choice in a big enough atrium. We did not have dinner in the atrium but if it is dark outside one might perhaps even been able to see the stars. The overall atmosphere, layout of the hotel, furbishment and looks, however, feel a bit old-fashionned, like a past glory. 20 years ago it would have been up to standard but now it just felt a bit old. Old does not imply bad though because the rooms were spacious and clean enough. If you take into account the above and look at the room rate of more than 110 euros for one night for two persons including breakfast than I unfortunately come to the conclusion that you can get a better deal in the Gent error. As indicated, the hotel is fine to stay some nights in but the price is just a bit too steep in my opinion for what you get. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good base to go to gent

Dec 8th, 2019

Great place to go if going by car to gent easy to park up and check in then 200m away is a tram to city center for 3 euro each :) Hotel is ver nice and polite staff and clean The rooms and halls decor are slowly getting dated and as the pic to find a plug next to such good wiring is a tad worrying ha ! With ikea 50m away. They try to update it TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Near Motorway

Nov 20th, 2019

This hotel is well located off the motorway for a stop for the night. Although, we did have to drive in a bit of a circle to get to the hotel and back onto the motorway because of the access roads and turn restrictions. There was plenty of parking at the hotel. Check in was quick, easy, and the front desk staff were first rate. Our room looked onto the expo and was quiet. It was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and it was nice to have a kettle to make a cup of tea. The air con was welcome on a warm day. There is a nearby tram station if you want to go into the centre. aside from the expo, it is a shopping area really and there is an Ikea right next door. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good overnight stay

Oct 1st, 2019

We have stayed here quite a few times on our way back to uk. Bit of conundrum trying to find it but once there you are always greeted but very friendly staff. Rooms as usual all very clean and restaurant food especially the breakfasts were superb. Unfortunately we do have one complaint about the bar, we did go down to get some ice but reception could not find the bar staff so ice was eventually delivered to the room. After our meal we decided to go to the bar for a drink there were no bar staff and after 5 minutes wait I went to reception and they said they would find them, on way back across reception I could see that both bar staff were outside having a cigarette, not good advert for hotel..they eventually came back and we were served but they kept disappearing and people were waiting to be served. Not the standard of service we expect from Holiday Inn. Apart from that all very good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Belgium holiday break

Sep 15th, 2019

Last night of our week away and decided on Gent. Hotel situated outside the city centre close to the E40 motorway. Next to IKEA and exhibition halls. Clean comfortable room, friendly staff and only 2 minutes walk to the tram stop which takes you directly to Gent city centre, basically a tram every 6 minutes. Plenty of parking and a great convenient place to stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
