Great Room, Shane about the food
Aug 28th, 2020
Room was great, reception staff also, the main restaurant was shut due to Covid and every restaurant in the area was full on both Wednesday (eat out to help out) but also on Thursday when the scheme wasn’t on. We couldn’t even book for Thursday ringing around on the Wednesday night. In the end we are in the hotel bar which wasn’t doing the half price scheme and was dead......it is now obvious as to why. The food was shocking, some of us had the ribs, some the burger (there were only a hand fill of choices) words can’t describe how bad they were! And with a couple of drinks each the bill was £170 for 4 of us. I won’t be returning TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Considering this place is relatively new, it offers a level of modern comfort one would expect for circa £100 a night. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bar is lively and welcoming, although quite limited in terms of draft beers on offer. There is a mini gym, but no pool, sauna or steam. For a night, I’d stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The staff where very welcoming at check in and the hotel is smart in appearance at check in. The rooms are large and well looked after and the bed was very comfortable. Great selection at breakfast. Very happy and would stop here again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Potential Electric Shock
Feb 16th, 2020
Checked into the Holiday Inn - Media City in Salford on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast Rate. It was Valentines night so decided to treat ourselves and upgrade to an Executive room located on the 16th floor. The hotel's location is ideally situated between BBC Television Centre / ITV Television Studios and University of Salford with an array of high rise modern apartments and office buildings all within close proximity. The hotel itself was very impressive upon first glance, it was modern, has a cosmopolitan vibe, communal areas were scrupulously clean with an airy and spacious reception. All modern decor and furnishing were in keeping with the style it wishes to portray. Fantastic views of Manchester United Football Club and the surrounding areas can be seen clearly and visibly from the 16th floor. A Marco Pierre White Restaurant is located on the mezzanine floor of the hotel. The bedroom itself was spacious with a king-size bed which was really comfortable, mini fridge, modern furniture, comfy armchair, desk area and stunning views looking down onto the surrounding vibrant media city. The only criticism I have was the creaky flooring in the bedrooms and corridors. The food served in the restaurant was delicious, cooked to perfection and the Marco Pierre White staff on duty were extremely professional. We had the pleasure of server Katie and appreciated her attentiveness that made our valentines evening special. However, I feel I must draw attention to a most serious incident that occurred prior to dining. I was ironing my shirt for the evening when suddenly there was a loud bang, a flash of blue light and smell of burning and suddenly the room was plunged into darkness. I dropped the iron on the floor in shock and felt a searing pain on the palm of my hand. Due to the sudden darkness it was difficult to manoeuvre around the room and I knew the hot scalding iron was somewhere on the floor, thankfully my partner was around to telephone reception. The duty manager James arrived immediately to be fair, but I was disappointed and concerned by his nonchalant attitude. Given the seriousness of this incident I would have expected an apology at the very least and his assurance we are moved immediately to a different room not just an offer to move to another room if we wanted to. We did want to move of course for our own safety. He took the iron away and was keen to state that the appliance had been tested and was safe to use but this information was of no comfort to me considering the shock of what had happened. Later in the evening after all the shenanigans over trying to book us a table slot for our evening meal he offered to waiver the 10% service charge in the restaurant that evening, which incidentally was discretionary, after our meal he offered to waiver 4 small bottles of soda water and lime cordial, again no big gesture as the drinks we consumed were only nominal costs. I suppose in fairness he assumed by offering to waiver the supplement £4.50 for my chicken breast this was a generous enough gesture for all the upset, disruption and potential electric shock! Taking things to a more serious level, if we put aside the trivial goodwill gesture, the fact of the matter was I had a black soot imprint from the power surge on my hand and it was sore. As the manager on duty James was very blasé about this whole issue which gave me cause for concern. It was this matter in its entirety that had prompted me to involve senior management and the owners of the hotel itself. I was therefore very surprised to receive a phone call of James the following day asking how was my hand, how has my day been and was keen to mention that the bedroom has been closed off. I was a little perplexed asking as to why he was asking for my email address? I felt the only reason he telephoned me was because I made a point of mentioning to the receptionist that morning that I would be notifying senior management about my distressing experience. I personally feel his position is untenable as guest safety is paramount and this clearly was not his priority at that time. This is a serious safety breach and his position as Duty Manager in my personal opinion should be called into question. He was on shift that evening and his overall priority and responsibility should be customer satisfaction and the safety of guests. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overnight stay for business. Spotless and spacious room. Very convenient desk space and iron/board provided.. Great location in the middle of Media City, walking distance to restaurants, The Lowry, IWM and studios etc... friendly and helpful staff. Nothing to complain about here- exactly what I needed. Didn’t use the bar area but looked very nice also... would definitely return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
