Very busy hotel

Jul 15th, 2019

This hotel is very popular for people that have work related trips in the financial district because it's right by Wall street. Therefore, the reception area and the lobby is always busy full of people. This happens to be the tallest Holiday Inn in the world. Therefore, I do suggest you pay extra for the city view because it's quite amazing. The draw back is the elevators. There are 3 and about 40+ floors. Expect to wait at least 10 mins to get to your room. You will always have to either wait for the elevator to arrive or land on each floor as you get up or down. So many times you will land on a floor with no one there which is so annoying. Also, during the day the house keeping staff will use it alot and sometimes chat with your colleagues delaying your time to get to and from your destination. Personally, I wish they had a service elevator for this. :( It's located by tons of subway lines so it's a very convenient location. The wifi is ok and they will bring an Ethernet cable to you if you need one. The washrooms are quite small. You have no room to put your toiletries. Overall, it's a good hotel minus the small washrooms and the elevator chaos. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My Go to Person

Jul 15th, 2019

We were in a good room nice size for a New York Hotel Emma J was a big help to us with directions. Contributed to my partner having a wonderful Birthday. I informed her I was in a rush and what my plans were for the day, the Concierge was not in as of yet being it was 8:15am. Upon returning to my room Emma had left the directions to the bar we wanted to attend, hours it opened & closed. Also she included a place where I could get a cake to help us celebrate. She was my go to person during my stay. Emma was very helpful ,knowledgeable, understanding and a pleasure to talk to. Thank you S. Sanders TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Way Better Than You Think

Jul 14th, 2019

I know what you are thinking, Holiday Inn? Right? Do not be put off. This is not like any UK Holiday Inn that you have been to. This is a boutique, New York Holiday Inn. We booked a trip to New York for a friends birthday ''Girls Trip!'' and wanted something nice but that wouldnt break the bank. The location was perfect with a deli, dunkin donuts, diner and subway all within a 30 second walk. A view of the statue of liberty and a short walk to the 9/11 memorial we could not have been happier with the location. The room was amazing decorated in a minimalist, New York style, spotless with mod cons, high comfortable beds, powerful air con, wifi. A resturant and bar downstairs. ice machine in the hall. We wanted for nothing, staff were so helpful with regards to booking taxis or resturant reservations. Although its not in the heart of everything we kind of liked that as we became increasingly familiar with our geography and the subway system to the point that armed with our metro card we were up, down and around NYC with very little fuss and made a couple friends in the ticket booths. Simply, when I return to New York again. I dont think that I would stay anywhere else. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Tallest Holiday Inn in the World With No Elevators

Jul 14th, 2019

I was staying here after 2 years and the situation is still the same, perhaps even worse. And Greg Riley is still the GM and obviously has not done anything to improve the situation. I am of course referring to the elevators. The hotel is pencil thin, rises 50 stories, has over 600 rooms and when fully occupied has well over 1000 people staying there plus all the staff. Guess what? Only three elevators!!! I have stood in lines in the lobby to go up or on my floor to come down for hours. And between 9am and 5Pm, one or two of the three elevators are blocked by the staff for their own use. My room was on the 7th floor, and even if an elevator managed to stop going down, it would be chock a full. I would have to miss multiple times before I managed to squeeze into one. The lobby is extremely cramped and unable to handle the hordes of guests and their luggage trying to use the elevators. It is total chaos. And also a major fire hazard. I would not want to be in the hotel if there is a fire or other emergency. It would be impossible to evacuate in a timely and orderly manner. Greg Riley's response to my last review was " try to change your arrival / departure time so that you avoid the peak elevator rush hour"! How smart! So, let me get this right. I have a flight at 11AM and called a taxi at 9AM. Mr. Riley wants me to start lining up for the elevator to come down from 8AM onwards??? Or I arrive from the airport at 6PM after a long and tiring flight / cab ride and Mr. Riley wants me to delay my arrival until after 8PM so that I avoid the 'elevator' rush hours??? How smart and original! No wonder, he is still stuck in the same job here even after 2 years. IHG would be hard pressed to replace him. Most readers of this review are too jaded to care for this level of detail even if it affects their well being and comfort. Hence, hotel management gets away with this kind of infrastructure. It is great to tout yourself as the tallest Holiday Inn in the world but not provide proper infrastructure to support that. Please note, there is no refrigerator in the room. All the food I bought assuming there would be a refrigerator was spoilt. The cramped wardrobe is stacked with the ironing stand that blocks all the hanging space! Perhaps it is only meant for that. There is no counter space at the sink in the bathroom. The room is dark and dinghy and you will need all the lights switched on all day long. Mr. Greg Riley, please do not bother with a patronizing, cut and paste response if you cannot be bothered to provide an intelligent and specific response to the serious issue. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best NYC Value

Jul 11th, 2019

This was my third stay at this property since shortly after it was built and completed in late 2014 . I keep returning because this place has been impeccably maintained and is an overall excellent value. Extremely clean, smallish (normal for NYC) but comfortable rooms with unimposing decor, and friendly staff. Multiple subway lines within 2 blocks will take you anywhere in Manhattan and beyond. Great independent espresso bar, quick food options, and a 24 hr bodega steps from the door. Everything a traveler needs without the Midtown/Times Square hassle. This time I chose (and paid for) a 'city view' room and was given #4001 - a corner king bed room with spectacular views of Ellis Island, Hudson River/Jersey City, and One WTC Freedom Tower. I'm on top of the world, Ma! - I'll definitely be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
