Loved this place!

We were recommended to this a lot by a Memphis friend. It was wonderful! Rooms were clean and lovely. We had a suite which made it easy for one of us to watch TV and the other to sleep. Staff were friendly and efficient. Parking was easy and the location was fabulous. We had a great selection of restaurants for dinner and even a close grocery store for car snacks for the drive. Wish we could have stayed longer to explore the campus and art museum. Next time we will! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I will always recommend this hotel strictly for the ease of a very centralized location, as well as it is one of the cleanest place I’ve stayed. The staff is fantastic every time. They are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are immaculate. Through this whole covid thing the room has been throughly wiped down. My only negative complaint is with breakfast from the grill. I ordered French Toast which was 9 dollars. I received two slices of white bread that were very good. Three slices of bacon that were not overly salty and crisped well. And one halved strawberry. I was then charged for a side of bacon(it said it came with) and paid 14.27 for this meal. I don’t complain about prices and Memphis has fed me way to well on my two day trip. But, if the breakfast isn’t included it’s not worth the price. Go out to get breakfast. You’ll be much more satisfied. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stayed at the Holiday Inn, Univ. of Memphis for 4 nights. So disappointed! First let me say that the hotel itself is gorgeous. A grand entryway and when you go upstairs using the escalator it appears that the conference areas are nice. The room itself is nice being a two room suite with a separate living and sleeping area. Almost everything there is closed now though because of covid. Sadly from there our impression deteriorated. Understanding that the pandemic has necessitated changes, we were disappointed often and in different aspects. When we checked in the front desk person was sitting and reading a book. While she wasn’t rude it was definitely not a cordial welcome. She didn’t recognize the elite status which is so rare for IHG properties. She gave us a room key and I had to ask for a second key. We settled in and came back down to go out to dinner. There is no concierge or bellman just the young lady at the desk. When I asked for recommendations she didn’t really know what was around. When we returned from dinner the escalator is turned off. The next morning we got up to take a shower and found the water to be only luke warm at best. We tried the sink and it was a little better but not much. Since these are circulating water systems I assume other areas are the same. We came down the escalator as it was turned on again. I had called prior to arriving about having flowers delivered to our room for our 25th anniversary. I went to the front desk that morning and asked the front desk person to have some sent up. She said she did not know how but she would get with the manager. I gave her my number to call if there was an issue. When we returned that afternoon I went to the desk and asked if the flowers had been delivered. The young lady there said first “we don’t do that”. When I mentioned we had called ahead she then told me that “the morning person was going to do it but had to leave”. She then told me that she did not have my credit card to charge it. I asked her why no call with no real response. I asked for the manager and she told me she was. It was obvious to me that there was no effort on her part on accommodating me. 3 different excuses speaks volumes. In general the interactions with staff indicated a lack of caring or boredom. We had to have our room key re-keyed 3 times in 4 days. We called down for towels and were told we had to come to the front desk to get them. If you want your room cleaned you have to ask. Having stayed with IHG properties around the US I must say this is the most disappointing stay I have ever had, even aside from ruining a 25th anniversary. I would not recommend nor stay at this property again. Staff training in customer service goes a long way in resolving issues. This property unfortunately is in need of more. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
This is a review of the bar, not the hotel.

A group of us met in the hotel bar for drinks. My husband ordered a Manhattan. The bartender poured Grand Marnier and bitters into the shaker, with ice. When I questioned this, he said there are "lots of ways to make a Manhattan". No! The proportions may vary, but the ingredients for a Manhattan are not negociable. (They are Bourbon, sweet red Vermouth, and a cherry). We were disappointed, but decided not to make a fuss because we were with a group. Other than that, everything else was okay. We ordered appetizers for the table and they came out promptly. Nothing special, just something to nibble. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Rudest receptionist I have EVER dealt with
Nov 22nd, 2019
I called to talk to someone in the restaurant area and immediately told she was helping someone else and got put on hold. I was on hold for 7 min and hung up to try again. Called back, same answer and was put on hold for another 5 min. I hung up and called back again and THEN she was able to help me. I made a comment about being on hold for almost 15 min and she lit up saying she was the only one there. The only one there? In a hotel that size? I told her it would have taken her 15 seconds to realize I wanted to be transferred to someone else instead of me being on hold for 15 min and after arguing with me, she said, "here" and transferred me to who I wanted to talk to in the first place. Rude...rude customer service TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
