Misleading COVID Precautions
Sep 5th, 2020
As a pregnant woman traveling during a global pandemic, I take COVID very seriously. We called ahead to ensure what practices were in place and even saw here that "Face masks required for staff in public areas" -- couldn't be further from the truth. When we checked in, the woman at the FRONT DESK was not wearing a mask. How can you get a key from someone standing 6+ feet apart? They had one small sign on the front door saying everyone needed to wear a mask, but the patrons and the EMPLOYEES did not abide. Will literally never stay at a Homewood Suites again, and cannot believe the blatant apathy of the employees during this time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
no complaints from me.....nice stay!

check in was smooth...had to reserve pool time due to covid restrictions but that wasn't a problem. Staff was very pleasant. Mary Ellen helped with my booking when I called there due to online reservation problems and she was great! Room was clean and comfortable. I would stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We called multiple times to make sure that the pool is open we were told yes it was but with limited hours and we were fine with that however when I tried to use the pool we were told nope sorry you have to make a reservation to use the pool and of course they were all booked up. I just thought that was ludicrous. I explained that I had called multiple times and that was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel. the lady, I believe she was a nighttime manager, was very rude and When talking to me with another guest came up she started talking to that guest. She told the night clerk, as I was walking away, “ I don’t have to even have the pool Open, that would fix her”. I let it go at that point. The dishwashers are the loudest dishwashers you’ll ever hear in your life. We were in room 205 and I strongly suggest you do not stay there as there is a locked door/closet that must contain the ac unit for the building. Breakfast was awful even for a Covid breakfast! No brown sugar for oatmeal! No bread for roasting. Yes, bagels and cold cereal and muffins.... No public restroom so you had to go back to your room. No newspapers at breakfast. Nothing extra or special like we had come to expect from this chain. Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, after 11 dogs and kids were quiet but prior to that hotel was noisy - including hearing noise above us. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I stayed at this hotel from July 25-28th. There seemed to be a lack of transparency concerning COVID-19 policies. There's signage/pamphlets on the room doors saying that they're using certain products to clean, but our room was rather dirty upon arrival. There were crumbs on the floors+couches, trash from the previous guests in the waste bin, and a large hair clip with a wad of hair in it on the kitchen chair (disgusting). I ended up purchasing my own cleaner to sanitize the room with as I did not feel comfortable with the cleaning (or lack there of.) The rooms themselves look more spacious in photos than they truly are. We had a one-bedroom suite and the bedroom itself was tiny. The walls are extremely thin, so you can hear the people in the rooms next to you at all times. This paired with the stiff mattress makes it very hard to sleep. The bathtub/shower also did not have a shower liner, which resulted in a lot of water on the floor. We did not know that housekeeping was not servicing rooms during stays until we came back from the beach on Sunday to find our room in the same condition. We found out that guests could schedule time to swim in the hotel pool. This differs from what the Hilton website said, "The following services and amenities are currently not available: Complimentary Evening Social, Fitness Center, Pool." Prepackaged breakfast was available to guests. I assumed that guests would be prohibited from dining in the breakfast area, but I saw many guests dining there. This seems counter intuitive to COVID prevention measures, especially considering that they could have easily eaten in their rooms. It's irritating that staff can clean up after guests that insist on eating outside of their rooms, but not the rooms themselves. I don't think that I will stay at this property again. Just got back from a quick 2 night stay and really enjoyed the hotel. We did in-person check-in, which was fast and easy. Employees wore masks behind the desk and were very helpful. Our room was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite. The room had plenty of storage and space for our family to spread out. The beds were comfortable and both bathrooms were well-sized. The tub/shower and toilet are in a separate room from the sink, which I prefer. We really appreciated having a full sized fridge and microwave. We did not use any of the dishes or silverware, but there would have been plenty. My only negative room comment is that the room was not as clean as I would have liked, even in non-Covid times. The fridge was quite dirty, we found sticky stuff on one of the desks, the floors in the bathrooms were not very clean, and there were stray hairs on one of the bedspreads. Fortunately, we always travel with cleaning wipes! There is no daily housekeeping right now. We were given a bag at the front desk to put our dirty towels in and left them outside of our door. We got new, clean towels from the front desk. We were also told to leave our bags of garbage outside of the door for housekeeping to pick up. The hotel still offers free breakfast, but it is very limited. The offerings included pre-packaged muffins (chocolate, blueberry, and banana-nut), cold cereal, strawberry-banana yogurt, onion, poppy-seed, or cinnamon raisin bagels, white bread for toasting, fruit and nut granola bars, oatmeal packets, bananas, orange juice containers, milk in containers, small bottles of water, and coffee. The cereal, bagels, and bread were not pre-packaged, so you had to use the same serving utensils/dispensers as other patrons. With that being the case, I didn't understand why the offerings were as limited at they were. Most people wore masks to the breakfast area, but not all. So, we were happy to take our food back to our room and eat there. I had a plastic bag that I used to transport our food, which was helpful. We were able to use the swimming pool during our stay. We had to sign-up for a 45 minute time slot at the front desk. I really appreciated the opportunity to use the pool, as well as the hotel's effort to keep the numbers low. The gym was open as well. The location of the hotel is fantastic. It is directly across the street from Millcreek Mall and within walking distance to multiple stores. It is about a 10 - 15 minute drive to Presque Isle and the bay front. Overall, we had a really good experience at the hotel and would definitely stay there again. The staff was very nice and made us feel welcome TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
