Great Historical Hotel

I love old hotels and I greatly appreciate Hilton taking on many of these gems and keeping them in good order to be enjoyed. Service was really good. Lobby and elevator was like stepping back in time. My room was very nice, modern, and comfortable. Irish bar in the lower part of the hotel also served as the breakfast area. Very nice. Several presidents have stayed in this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sadly, I think Covid got the better of them....

4pm check in, 7pm arrival, room finally at 930pm - While this hotel, under different circumstances, has the potential to be amazing. ... it simply wasnt. The staff was doing the best they could...but the CV situation has overwhelmed the cleaning folks and perhaps clouded the business minds of the owners. They were booked well over their ability to handle the customers/turn around rooms. In addition, the room had used dental picks still in it, our room was left bolted open (ajar) by the valet guys, and well - the check in time. The desk clerk did what she could to make things better - and they were better - but not fixed. We lost the whole evening, we were exhausted, and we just felt: cheated. This late check in is the fault of booking - NOT the on site staff. I will likely never be back in SD - and while the rooftop lounge is lovely, and the property is lovely - we couldn't enjoy it (we were up at 5 to drive, hike, and tour). Owners - either secure trained cleaning staff (possibly difficult in these days) or don't book the rooms. It is that easy, if not economically pleasant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location

Stayed in Room 907. The only challenge was you could hear every chair movement on the floor above where the restaurant was located. The staff was very friendly. Starbucks in the hotel was a plus. It also had two great restaurants and close to the downtown business area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

High expectations but so disappointed

To be fair, this is an OLD hotel! However, as part of the Hilton Curio Collection and as a Hilton Honors member, we had higher expectation, CLEANLINESS being the most important!!Our carpeting was very dirty and had lint, dried grass and other soil on it as if it not been vacuumed! The A/C protruded about 18 inches into the room and was supported by a wooden box underneath it. The nightstands and desk were dusty. I called to ask if this room had been unused for a while and was told they had been sold out every night since Memorial Weekend! They could not move us to another room as there were none! I guess we were the last ones to check in at 6;30 pm? They did give us vouchers for Starbucks! Wow! A very nice man came to vacuum at our request. The only nice thing was the rooftop bar/restaurant and it's staff! So, would I recommend this Hotel? If you do not mind a worn out , distressed and tiny room that is unclean, go for it! Great hotel for handicapped guests

We had a wonderful experience from the get go. Phoned to find out how wheelchair accessible things were. Spoke to Ross who knew everything regarding the ADA. Valet parking is free with valid handicapped hangtag. Young guys in valet very helpful and assisted us with bags. Rooms were not big, but wheelchair accessible. Ross made sure extra pillows and shower chairs were in rooms. Entire hotel is wheelchair accessible except second floor of rooftop bar which was no big deal since the main floor was lovely. For such a historic city, all corners have ramps and Ross knew every accessible restaurant. My only complaint was that restrooms were not clean at all. All sights and monuments nearby are accessible. Ask Ross to email list of restaurants and sights. He seemed like the only person who knew the area and what was going on. Friendly staff, but obviously not accustomed to dealing with special needs people. Entire area is beautiful and highly recommended for history buffs and nature lovers. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
