Great views and immediately adjacent to the Alhambra

Jan 20th, 2020

This hotel was excellent during our one night. It is very conveniently located next to the Alhambra, and this proximity is very helpful if you have a early morning ticket to it! The tapas at the bar were great, as were the views from the bar and the room. The only drawback of the property is that it was a long hike into the main part of town. We’d definitely stay here again. Lovely old world feel, great service and very comfortable

Jan 20th, 2020

Really handily located just outside the walls of the Alhambra it has a grand old hotel feel with wide carpeted staircases, liveried staff at the door, big spaces for the dining room and terrace and lovely old comfy rooms with nice touches like bathrobes. Staff are terrific - friendly and helpful and multilingual. Great views of the city too from being so high up. Very happy I booed here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

At just a short walk from La Alhambra ...

Jan 19th, 2020

We booked "Alhambra Palace Hotel" due to its proximity to Granada's awesome "La Alhambra". And we enjoyed every minute spent at this hotel! It has been completely renovated but, at the same time, it keeps its traditional style and decor. It's beautiful and comfortable, with Andalusia reflected at every single detail! So much has been already written about "Alhambra Palace Hotel", that I won't write much. If your main interest in Granada is "La Alhambra", this should be your address in this unique city. Downtown attractions are are not so close, but easily reachable by taxi. One last remark: don't miss its terrace bar overlooking Granada and majestic "Sierra Nevada"! Enjoy! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

National treasure

Jan 13th, 2020

This hotel is a first rate luxury hotel noted for its history and exceptional location. Located a short walk from Alhambra and situated with a panoramic view of the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains, this hotel is truly an experience. The terrace restaurant has great lunches and serves fabulous cocktails. What better view than the distant mountains and the cascading red tiled roofs of the terrace side while drinking cocktails or coffee? The hotel was a casino club at one time, so there’s beautiful historic tile work and other period decor. Bathrooms are modern with deep bathtubs. Only drawback is there aren’t any other restaurants nearby, so choosing the breakfast option is important. Two nights booking is adequate. I did another booking to a hotel in the lower city historic area, and it’s easier to explore Granada from there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This is NOT a five star hotel!

Jan 9th, 2020

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the Alhambra as well as the fact that it was a 5 star establishment. The first part is true, the second DEFINITELY is not. Let me be specific. The difference between a 3 or 4 star hotel and a 5 star one is all in the details. We stayed at the Gran Melia Colon in Seville for several days before and hence had a clear comparison. 1) THe place is tacky. They tried, unsuccessfully, to replicate the style of the Alhambra. They didn't come even remotely close. 2) Reception was surly, not inviting. This was true of nearly all of our interactions with the staff. Even when they were helpful, it seemed a tad reluctant, almost like they were government employees annoyed that their leisure was interrupted by work. 3) We requested a room with one queen or king bed. We got a room with twin beds pushed together, but made up as two twins. Now, it takes less that 5 minutes to make up 2 twins as a king, but they couldn't be bothered. 4). The lighting in the room is harsh - in contrast with the use of warm, indirect lighting in most high-end establsihments. 5) No carpet on the floor. They had the same fake wood tiles that we saw the last time we were in the Holiday Inn. 6) The one sink in the bathroom had two faucets. Why? I have no earthly idea. It made no sense at all. 7) Great hotels make the housekeeping staff largely invisible. Here there was always a housekeeping cart with dirty laundry parked somewhere in the hall. 8) When we pulled up in front of the Gran Melia, someone took our luggage and by the time we reached our room, it was there. Here ... no such luck. We took our own, carrying it up and down stairs. 9) small details matter. At the Gran Melia the thermostat controls were right beside the bed. Here you had to get up, turn on a light and make changes during the night. 10) The light switches near the bed controlled lights of different lights, but were all identical, so you had no idea what was what, or which ones were on, and which off. Small LED indicators make all the difference. 11) We asked for directions twice, once to go to dinner at a nearby restaurant (there is only one!) and then to find the actual entrance to the Alhambra. It both instances the directions were sufficiently vague and inaccurate that we got lost both times. Really? Surely nearly every guest asks those two questions. 12 . ... 20 Last thing ... when we went to check out, we waited for 20 minutes to get our car. They clearly knew we were checking out and could have quite easily staged the cars of people checking out in the parking area in front of the hotel. But they didn't. The ONE nice / helpful person was the hostess in the restaurant who got me a cup of coffee while I was waiting for my car. In case you are interested, there is a Eurostar 100 yards away that actually IS a 5 star hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
