Home away from home

It's definitely prettier that The Beverly Hills Hotel although The Beverly Hills hotel is beautiful too. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys luxury travel, or is looking for a romantic getaway. The amenities in the room are pretty standard, but. the service is outstanding. I feel like Hotel Bel Air is popular among those European tourists as we heard nothing but French during our stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Quintessential LA hotel experience.

I can't say enough good things about the Bel-Air, which I have visited numerous times. But I will try. Understated elegant chic, an enclave that reduces your stress and lifts your spirits as soon as you check in. So much glamorous history and tradition that has drawn the LA (Hollywood and international) elite to its doors for decades. The praise is legitimate and well deserved. Lovely rooms that are like your own private hideaway. Great bar and food. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Paradise

I travelled here with my adult daughter in September 2019. Many, many years ago I saw an advert in my hotel room channel for The Bel Air Hotel. It was a long advert narrated by a man with what the kids would call an ''ASMR voice'' and it was such effective marketing it stuck in my mind for about 15 years until I finally made it through the doors in September 2019. Was it worth the wait? Yes and then some. The hotel is just paradise. We stayed in the Canyon studio room. These rooms are on the south side of the hotel and are located on the upper floors so you have a lovely view of the canyon, a lot of privacy and the private patio with a little plunge pool and fireplace is delightful. Inside the rooms are sleek, modern and well appointed and for us Europeans very 'California'. We could have stayed in our room for the weekend! We stayed here after taking a cruise and before our cruise we stayed at another 5 star hotel in Beverly Hills that was a comedy of errors and just a horrible experience. We came to The Bel Air with some trepidation that we would again be paying handsomely to get shoved aside in favour of VIP guests and connected locals. Well, no such worries were needed. We were made to feel so welcome and with the large gardens and privacy of our suite it often felt like we the only guests. The pool was busy over the weekend but we were always welcomed and provided with lounge chairs and they were not holding the best seats for VIPs like the other hotel. Every guest was treated equally which is such a relief when you are just a nobody like us. You can take the house car within a 3 mile radius and they have a car that will take you to their sister hotel The Beverly Hills Hotel where you can use their pool and you also have charging privileges. This hotel is also beautiful though of course busier. I highly recommend the Fountain coffee shop for coffee and cake. The staff was amazing in every way. Great attention to detail. I never mentioned it was my birthday. I traveled through 3 international airports, stayed in 2 other hotels and took a cruise. Nobody noticed the DOB on my passport. Checked into The Bel Air and 30 minutes later they are at my room with cake and champagne because they noticed. My daughter works as a writer for a talk show in our country. She told our house car driver this and about her love of comedy. Our driver had the concierge get us tickets to the Comedy Store, they agreed to drop us in the house car AND the driver (a different man) took a little detour to show my daughter the house that her idol Joan Rivers lived in during the height of her talk show fame. I mean.......that's the level of care and detail they put into each guest. My room tip is to go for a room/suite that has outdoor space. We reserved through the Dorchester Diamond Club and the extra benefits you get cancel out the extra cost of the higher category of room. Diamond Club is also the best of its kind - they upgrade you on booking and when they say free breakfast they mean it. We weren't charged the tax and tips. Not every day you pay these rates and feel you got value for your money. Thank you to all at The Bel Air.We have caught the bug and will be back in September 2020. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Was expecting more....

We live in LA and booked Hotel Bel Air as a mini staycation, plus, I didn't get a chance to celebrate my birthday so it was a belated celebration. We've dined at the Beverly Hills Hotel (another DC property) and had an amazing time - so figured let's give Bel Air a try. Booked a canyon suite and on our way we went! Our arrival was nice, the valet is wonderful and we were greeted by name, which was a nice touch at the front desk (we've actually been there before for dinner which was sadly underwhelming). I booked our room with champagne and choc covered strawberries add-on. I had to ask the front desk to make sure it was in there since they didn't really acknowledge my notes on the reservation (that it was for a special occasion, add-ons ect). After telling them, they acknowledged it, but that was pretty much it. We got to our room and I'll admit, it didn't give me the wow factor that the BHH gives me. Upon entering the room, it seemed similar to the photos online and was pretty cute, but after further inspection we realized it appears a little worn, dusty and even had a dead spider on the floor. One of the sliding doors leading to the patio was also extremelyyy hard to open and close... and the toilet paper roll kept falling off because the bar holding it up kept falling down every time you'd try to use it. The champagne was chilled, but for the extra charge it was no more than a $19 bottle. I wasn't expecting Dom, but I was hoping for something a little more high end. The strawberries were ok, but somewhat room temp.... and we didn't check in super late so figured they must have been sitting there for a while. We ordered room service which is all on an ipad, I'm pretty young, but I still desire a paper menu in the room and couldn't find one. Upon receiving our room service, I figured maybe they would have added a cute dessert to celebrate my birthday, but nothing.....We also ordered breakfast and same thing, nothing special. Also, it made me a little sad that I wanted an acai bowl but with no avocados (I'm a little allergic) and they called to say they couldn't make it that way. Usually places just sub more banana, so I was a little confused as to why they wouldn't make it with my request. I also got pancakes for breakfast, which was super delish, until half way thru in-between the layers there was a piece of string/rope I found...so I couldn't eat the rest, it was really sad. The spa/dipping pool in our room (on the private patio) I thought was a hot tub, but it really just a dipping pool. They set the temp for us to be the hottest they can offer, but it wasn't what we expected, the jets were also really weak. We had a bad noise problem in our room as well. We heard our 'upstairs' neighbors a LOT throughout the whole night..... which was disappointing. Definitely cheapened the experience. I couldn't sleep soundly and it was really sad for me. I called the front desk in the morning and the first person who answered the phone didn't offer to help me at all for the issue. She just said 'book a quiet room next time', to which I replied 'I did, I checked the box for a quiet room when booking on the site.' Still didn't offer much of anything besides an apology. But, shortly after someone called our room (I believe it was probably the manager) and he expressed his apologies and offered us a discount on the room. Overall we probably wouldn't stay here again, I'd go back to the BHH instead, but I was appreciative of the employees they had there. From the valet, to the bellhop and turndown service, everyone was super kind and very helpful. I did a survey explaining what happened and did get a call from one of the managers wanting to talk to me, but I called back and haven't heard back since... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel Bel-Air

Very nice hotel with a great ambiance. You see a lot of celebrities checking in and out. Near Beverly Hill with lots of shops and walking area. Price is reasonable for the location. Pool area is great. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
