Great Staff, building needs serious maintenance

Dec 13th, 2019

Perfect location, beautiful old building. Fantastic staff. BUT the air con units are a huge problem. They have been fitted in curved windows with 2 pieces of perspex either side that are not secure, therefore it`s like sleeping with the windows open. It`s very cold and noisy. the sofa bed is extremely uncomfortable. Such a pity as with a little more care it could be perfect, TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel Belleclaire New York

Dec 13th, 2019

When we arrived our rooms were not the cleanest desk and bedside tables were very dusty as was the wooden floor. The bed was clean and also comfortable enough although small. The ensuite was very tired the unit the sink was in was painted wood but was all chipped. I went straight down to reception and told the receptionist that the rooms 709 and 729 were not the cleanest and as it was late in the day I understood not much could be done tonight but that I would like both rooms given a deep clean next morning while I was out as I would be out all day. The receptionist was very nice and full of apologies and said she would leave a note for the manager and house keeper. Next day on our return to the hotel our bed hadn't even been made so I returned to the reception to complain again got apologies. Next day the room was cleaned but the cleanliness was never great. There was no amenities within the hotel breakfast which was advertised as continental buffet was orange juice, coffee and a croissant or pastry if your choice which you got at the bakers next door with vouchers you had to collect every morning from reception. Thankfully all we needed was somewhere to sleep because that is all it was good for. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My first visit to "Hotel Belleclaire"

Dec 11th, 2019

I'm happy my cousin found this hotel. It was our first time in New York and didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised once we got there. Check in was quick and easy and they allowed us to move to another room because we preferred a room with a view which the first one didn't have. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. This hotel is very well located, a couple of stations are close (Line 1 takes you almost everywhere on the west side of Manhattan) and restaurants and stores are in every corner which is great if you need to do some shopping. There is only one thing that we didn't enjoy and it was the sound of the radiator but we were informed that they were doing some renovations and the radiators were about to be replaced. With regards to the hotel staff, we can only say THANK YOU, they were very helpful and kind, specially Jasmin and Maria. They made us feel very welcomed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rooms look nothing like the pics.....beware!!!

Dec 3rd, 2019

I thought I was doing my due diligence. We usually spend a long weekend in NYC on the UWS every year with another couple. I called in to the Hotel to inquire if they had a 2 bedroom suite connected by a lounging area which was a very important criteria for our stay. I was told they absolutely had that type of suite and that there was only 1 left. Omg imagine our surprise on entering this suite. Before we even got to the suite I noticed that the passageway was filthy like it had not been vacuumed but then again I thought it could be that we had arrived mid evening and that was why...no worries moving on. We enter the 'suite' to find that it's 2 bedrooms connected to each other with no lounging room in between. I became extremely irritated but thought I should make the most of it as we were already there. The curtains on the window were put on backwards which makes zero sense. The chest of drawers was old and dilapidated and the drawers had the knobs missing and this to me seemed tacky and lazy as it is an easy fix. The headboard was so scratched and discolored you would think they would replace it...seriously, the leather had been scratched off the headboard. The room looked barely cleaned but I reserved comment until a few days. We hardly slept through the first night as they have VERY old radiators that sounds like someone is crashing through the door. We complained the next morning and were told that somebody would fix it but that never got done. After a full day of being out, we return to our 'suite' to find the beds made and nothing else. Bathroom still had all the dirt on the floor. There were no towels, no body wash and no glasses which we had to call down to get and when we were made to feel as if we were a bother. I can't ever imagine recommending this hotel to anyone and I am floored by the positive reviews they receive. How is this possible when this entire hotel looks worn out and dirty. The one positive was that the beds were made every day but that was the limit of their cleaning. I don't remember staying in a hotel that seemed so sloppy and unkempt. Who is responsible for the operation of this hotel? TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
