Best Hotel for my budget

This is hotel is a perfect fit for my budget and at the same time I am very near Union Square! Easy access to Union Square which is our priority along with an affordable price. This is also a safe place to stay. Although true that our room and toilet is small, we asian size-coincidentally on the smaller side in height and weight can perfectly fit! Breakfast Buffet is ok for just $8. Constanze at the front desk is very hospitable and all the staff at the front desk and restaurant are very hospitable and helpful. The place though small is pretty/nice-looks good on the photo. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect location spoilt only by the noisy homeless people in the nearby street

Ideally situated for Westfield shopping and Union Square. Stunning decor inside the hotel. We had a twin room which was big enough for our needs. Double glazing is required in the next refurbishment as the noise from the homeless people adjacent to the hotel goes on through the night and does disturb. Ear plugs are provided but this isn’t an ideal solution. The two ladies on reception on 24th November 2019 and 1st December 2019 along with everyone else (with the exception of one who I will detail further down the review) were superb and very courteous and polite. The free coffee and tea in reception is a nice touch and we utilised it more than once. There are several diners nearby that offer a full cooked breakfast which were reasonably priced. We donated the clothes we brought with us to the homeless people in the area whilst shopping for new items in the Black Friday sales. We caught an Uber to San Francisco Premium outlet mall at Livermore which dependent on the time of day costs approx £40.00 each way, but the bargains to be had more than made up for this expense of the travelling. We also pre booked the trip to Alcatraz which is an absolute must do! Now back to the blonde lady on reception, she was frankly rude and uninterested in the guests of the hotel. We saw her helping herself to breakfast on more than one occasion and also sat eating a burger while on reception. Customer Service is an area where she clearly needs a lot of training. Overall an excellent stay TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Mixed bag

The good points: Staff at this hotel were fantastic. Location is also perfect as plenty of restaurants and transport links close by. Bar area is also very nice. Rooms were clean and cleaning staff were also extremely helpful. Bad points: Our room was so tiny with no natural light (see pic) we had to put a bedside lamp on every time we were in the room (311) we struggled for space. Despite the area being central, mason street is particularly bad for the homeless congregating. We arrived at midnight and this was very unsettling. I counted 6 people intoxicated and sleeping rough. The streets were a mess. I find this unacceptable when you are paying an additional city charge at the hotel on top of your stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good location, good bar, boutique hotel

This was booked by our travel agent. I like small hotels like this. The rooms are small but have everything you need. Good mattress and pillows, good bathroom. Fast WiFi throughout hotel. We opened the window for the evening so the room was reasonably cool at bedtime. The noisiest part of the night is the 03:30 street cleaning. We didn't see any more homeless people here than anywhere else in San Francisco. None seemed aggressive, just in desperate need of help. I liked the bar on the first night, good beer and an entertaining barman, so we decided to eat in on our second night. My rare steak, with smoked mushrooms, was perfectly cooked and delicious but the service was indifferent and unlike the rooms the restaurant was cold enough to need a sweater. We were intending to have breakfast on day 2 but even at $8 it looked a bit meagre so we went round the corner to the Taylor Street Cafe. The location is excellent a step from Market Street you can walk to main areas and the Ferry Terminal without climbing a hill. There are also classic street cars that run down Market Street and link all the Piers. The cable car, for the hilly route is a block away, Powell Street Station is very close with a direct connection to the airport. Our taxi took under 25 minutes to get to the International terminal this morning but over an hour on our arrival during the rush hour. With a single bag I would use the BART. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointed

This hotel was disappointing. The location was very good but unfortunately some things made our stay unpleasant. When we arrived, we were greeted by a receptionist who was very rude. Not only did she charge one of the girls for the entire stay (when she had it paid before arrival) and also charged two security deposits to another girl, she changed languages and spoke spannish to the other receptionist. Personally, I found this very rude as it was unnecessary. Her manner also was not friendly. After paying urban taxes and our security deposits, we were then told that the keys to the room didn't work and that the receptionist would have to bring people to their room everytime they needed to. When told this was unacceptable, nothing was done about it for the duration of our stay. It was very noisy during the night, hence the earplugs which were provided in the room!! The rooms were clean and so was the bathroom which was good. It was such a pity with what happened with the above incidents. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
