Mini Escape

First time at this hotel. Very impressed by the decor. Rooms are a bit pricey especially since most offer no view of the ocean. BUT the location is great. Many fabulous bars and restaurants within walking distance and trolley up State Street. Complimentary bikes, beautiful roof top pool and very comfortable beds. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very Santa Barabara

2nd stop on a road trip north on the California coastline...as we pulled up to this centrally located hotel downtown, a guy was painting the curb white...all part of a super clean ambience amidst the beauty of the Mediterranean architecture and the opulence of Santa Barbara....booked a Cordova room as we were traveling with our 20 year old daughter and needed extra space....it really wasn't enough for 3 but the huge veranda and sort of view of the Pacific were very nice....very nice detail in room including recessed/hidden brass electrical outlets and fixture....property is spread over several buildings, clean friendly service TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

SB at its best

great location in a great town. Highly recommended for anyone who wishes to be in the center of all that Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County have to offer to the visitor. Proximity to both the beach and downtown are a major plus. The staff was pleasant at all times. The room was private and quiet. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Quintessential Santa Barbara Architecture, Service and Location. My New Go To Hotel

Jan 19th, 2020

A friend had hosted an impromptu birthday bash in Santa Barbara and had suggested a couple of hotels. Because we were arriving by Amtrak, we wanted something close to the Amtrak station in the uber-hip Funk Zone (the Pacific Ocean side of the 101where State Street hits the ocean) where all of our dining and wine tasting festivities would be. Hotel Californian was the chosen hotel and we were so glad we did. It was maybe a four-minute walk from the station and in the heart of everything. The entire experience was brief but highly memorable. From a warm and expedient front desk check in to the luxurious and oversized room we would have stayed a whole week if we didn't have to get back to LA. We did not have a chance to enjoy the rooftop deck/pool/restaurant but it looked amazing with wrap-around views from the mountains to the sea. The Mediterranean Revival architecture made you feel like you were in Europe and the decor throughout complimented the historic vibe with a modern flair. In-room features like the well-stocked minibar, monster flat screen (that was easy to stream Netflix, Disney+ and more right from our own phones), bedside charging ports and a bed that was so comfy it made me sad to get out of it, this hotel is now my go-to choice in SB. After a long day of wine tasting and dining, you need a uber-comfy place to crash. This was it. If you are looking to get away from the throngs of tourists and meh-lodging choices of upper State Street SB, get your funk on in this cool new area of Santa Barabar and crash at The Californian.
