The Best Experience We Could Have Wished For
Aug 9th, 2020
My wife, children and I needed to getaway and our wish was to wake up and look out over a beautiful mountainous view. We could not have asked for anything better than the view that awaited us at Maya Caprice. The room in which we stayed had a panoramic view over-looking the magnificent snow-capped Alpine peaks, the picture-postcard Wengen village streets and Swiss houses below which lay the romantic Lauterbrunnen valley. Had we spent the entire five days just enjoying the view from our balcony our week would have been fine!! However the hotel could not be more conveniently situated to explore the beautiful Wengen village and to enjoy either a leisurely stroll or a more strenuous trek up as high up or low down the mountains as your heart desires and your fitness levels allow. If walking is not what you had in mind, there is no need to walk further than about 50 metres to the Wengen station from where you can access any of the surrounding villages while taking in the dramatic and breath-taking scenery in the comfort of the train. I would highly recommend booking in advance to journey to Jungfraujoch - The Top of Europe, for both the train ride and the views from the top. With the children we scheduled to spend 4 and a half hours at the top and it almost was not long enough. Getting back to Maya Caprice the restaurant was superb and we thoroughly enjoyed the pizzas that we ordered for dinner and the delicious Swiss breakfast that was on offer. All the staff that we met were very friendly and helpful, especially Andreas who could not do enough for us; even from the time of our making the booking. Although the rooms with a panoramic balcony are a little more expensive, it is well worth it. The beds were comfortable and well-cleaned and tended to. I enjoyed that the bathroom amenities are eco-friendly as little bottles of shampoo, etc. are replaced with wall-mounted dispensers for soap, etc. A mini-bar fridge was in our room which was convenient for storing cheeses, etc which we bought. There is also a kettle with a few teas and coffees being made available for guests who can topped up and replenish these from the full range of Twinings which is on offer in the cozy hotel bar lounge Unfortunately there was not enough time to enjoy the whirlpool but worth noting that the whirlpool overlooks the valley and boasts the same magnificent views that we had in our room. I do not believe that a place with a better view could exist. It is not a question of if, but rather when we will go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice mountain hotel with spectacular views

We booked a night here with friends and both of our rooms were upgraded, which was very nice and such a great way to start. All of the staff in the hotel were just great. Super friendly, professional and caring. The room was modern and comfortable but don’t expect frills. The wines were great but the food at both dinner and breakfast could use a little extra creativity for a “boutique” hotel. If you are a global traveler than this was slightly under average. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend. We were expecting a bit more of a “boutique” experience due to its positioning like that in their name but i would rather call it a good quality mountain hotel with great staff. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Last minute decision to book a ski weekend in Wengen payed off staying at Maya Caprice. The hotel is a short walk from the train station and in a good season skiing possible to the hotel. Rooms are recently furnished with alpine decor. The WiFi was too slow. The restaurant offers delicious and creative Mediterranean style cuisine. A cosy bar with great views of Lauterbrunnen valley and the Eiger. The staff are highly professional and friendly. Although during our stay Switzerland was suffering from Coronaviris pandemic, still the hotel made everything possible for us to enjoy a memorable weekend in Wengen. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Where do I start?! My partner and me are on our honeymoon all the way from Australia and were meant to stay at this hotel for 2 nights. We arrived at the train station with 4 heavy bags and were told that we had to drag them up to the hotel ourselves (no trolleys etc provided) which was a startle considering they charge you AUD 580 a night!. Anyway, we then went to check in and were allocated our room. We entered the room and all it had was good views! That’s all!! No comfort whatsoever - the beds had hard spring mattresses and the ceiling had Asbestos!!! I don’t know about Switzerland but in Australia it’s a serious health hazard to have ceilings with asbestos in a hotel. My partner and me started to feel really ill considering the current global health conditions we brought this to the attention of the man who manages the check in reception - and this is where the drama starts! He went off at us as though we had absolutely no respect. He said things like “if you try and run away without paying us then we won’t leave you” ! All we were doing is putting forward our concerns to the so called manager! We then asked to speak to a higher authority in the hotel and we had someone (more polite and mannered) speak to us. We also contacted booking.com to inform them of the behaviour of the staff and how we felt demeaned even after paying premium prices at this hotel. I would honestly not recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to have a nice holiday unless you are keen on paying big bucks for nothing. The rooms didn’t have USB plugs or anything either. Oh and by the way the breakfast is lower than average! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best view from the hotel room. Even lying down on the bed. Very memorable stay. Spending most of the time relaxing at the balcony enjoying the view with some wine. The restaurant is under Michelin 2019. Will TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
