Glad this hotel is closed!

Jan 16th, 2020

Actually I stayed Feb.1988.As this hotel is now closed,(This is closed for sure, tell me so) I share my very old experience and how I surprised they did not change,or became worse. I was student travelling alone back then.I found comfort in most of hotels and YWCAs within student budget.I didn't care about some dirt.(I don't remember the fee of this hotel back then. Not so pricey.) There were roaches, big and small, in February in NY.lots of.Homeless guys were sleeping at entrance.I had to say "excuse me" to enter.(I felt sorry for those guys as it was freezing cold, though)I wondered whether it's safe step in shower without flip flop. This hotel scared me.And I was not a girl easily scared. It was way before internet,I knew nothing about the hotel. 2 nights later,I jumped out this hotel, found similar budget hotel nearby.I felt like in heaven.(not so similar price anymore, unfortunately) I'm glad this mystery is closed.Because of location,This hotel kept attract clueless tourist like me.They cannot anymore. --- Japanese version 1988年に二日間だけ滞在して、当時でさえとんでもなく汚く恐ろしいところだったんですが、最近やっとクローズしたというニュースを聞いて安心しております、、。 TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best Hotel for temporary stay

Nov 21st, 2019

This hotel was good and relatively cheap. A friend and I stayed here for 2 days. The service was great and food was decent. Moreover, the hotel is close proximity to the tourists attractions in the city. Best option for budgeted stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It was a good and un-expensive option. It let me do my business and be near the attractions in NY City. Great personnel. Great check in and check out process. Will do it again but I know is closed again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

death trap

Jan 6th, 2019

To be completely honest, I was really concerned when I heard word that my husband had booked the infamous Hotel Carter. What I thought would be a nice holiday with the kids and exchange students nearly turned into a reason for a divorce. I know I am writing this review on an emotional basis but I really need to just put it out there that this place sucked balls, (I hope my kids never read this!!) I have to admit, the view was really stunning but I couldn't really enjoy it because I was fearing for my life the whole time. When I heard the hotel's keycards had the ability to open any room, my night was completely ruined because I had to warn the kids, (they were staying on a different floor.) One recommendation I would like to make would be to fire the man with the black hair who works at the front desk as he tried to overcharge the exchange students. That really made me sick to my stomache. The thing that made me sick to my stomache were the packets of chips that turned out to be expired that we purchased from a vending machine in the lobby. That vending machine by the way was barely responsive but eventually the machine violently regurgitated the chips. (I was nearly regurgitating later too.) Without the option to order room service, I had to listen to my kids complaining all night and they weren't even on the same floor as me. Having the Russian exchange students staying on our floor made everyone realise how thin the walls were. I couldn't tell if it was coming from their room, but there were really loud noises continuously being blasted every night which made it really difficult to get any sleep. One thing I can say for certain is that this was one holiday I will never forget. If there is one positive thing I gained from our stay, it would be the way our family bonded during our stay as we were fearing for our lives collectively by the end of the four weeks of our stay.
