My favorite hotel in SATX!

We first stayed at the Contessa about 12 years ago, and since then we've tried other places at a similar price point. There is just something about the patios, the bar, the exposed brick, and the perfect service... we absolutely love this place and will always come back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, beautiful rooftop pool/whirlpool

Wonderful place to stay in the heart of San Antonio. Something about sitting on a lounge poolside chair seeing the city, at their rooftop pool. Everything in San Antonio is walkable from the Alamo, located right on the Riverwalk. We stayed on the seventh floor, Rivewalk side, which may be a little too high if you want to see the river from your room. Well appointed rooms, though. The tree below blocks the river, with a view of a parking garage across the River - but again this was not a deal breaker for us - as trees below create the ambiance at the river level. When we booked they offered us to share our stay on social media, which they then gave us a $15 food and drink voucher for free! (Note: They will charge your room at first, but then give you the $15 credit upon checkout). We used our voucher for a free breakfast at their great restaurant located right on the River. During COVID-19 most restaurants will be closed by 8PM, but there are a couple like a Mexican restaurant and the Republic of Texas (that are open till 10pm or so). This is definitely the place to stay, though, if you want to be in the heart of San Antonio with clean amenities, great location, and picturesque on the River. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful hotel and wonderful service.

We spent the weekend at this property in mid July. The customer services was outstanding from before we got there until we walked out the door. I needed to change the number of rooms and called the hotel to make sure it was right. She immediately took care of my request. When we arrived the valet personnel was helpful and friendly. We had a request at the front desk and they quickly took care of our needs. Everyone was so helpful. It's a beautiful property with a great bar and restaurant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

No sense of humanity! Profits above everything.

I decided to book a trip to San Antonio for the 4th of July weekend back in early January before everyone knew how this COVID-19 virus was going to play out. Everyone is experiencing this virus differently from not being effected at all, to lives being lost. It has been a roller coaster. From whole states shutting down, to counties and small businesses. How it has effected me personally is job loss, family illness and having to move from my residence. I have a family of 4, counting my wife and 2 toddlers, age 3 and 4. Honestly, the last thing on my mind was a trip I booked back in January through Expedia. With the state of Texas being hit hard these last couple of days and weeks, we have been strictly focused on taking care of our kids the best we can. So fast-forward to the 4th of July, it didn’t cross my mind about the trip I had booked back in January. I review my account and I get hit with a $264 charge for not cancelling. Now I understand that they have a "cancellation policy" in place for a reason. You cant have people book rooms and not show up left and right on a normal business bases. However, we're all going through a World Pandemic. We're not sure if the state is going to shut down tomorrow, the country will get worse or what tomorrow brings. We are not in the world of "business as usual". As people should adjust to the new normal, so should businesses and their "policies". I understand I should have cancelled the reservation prior to the 4th of July to avoid any fees, but I also believe due to the current situation we're ALL experiencing, Hotel Contessa should have provided a reminder, courtesy reminder call or some form of communication to explain their business approach during this COVID-19 crisis. Are they closing the hotel, are they limiting staff and rooms being reserved, etc. Had their Hotel been ordered to shut down, I'm sure they would have sent me an email saying "Sorry, Hotel is being closed during your stay, good luck!". Again, the new circumstances should call for new measures. Again, this virus has affected everyone differently. Some folks feel free to travel, others are under so much stress during this virus. At the least a courtesy call to guests with reservations in the near future should be given a call as a courtesy to find out their situation, cancel if need be or keep the reservation active. Due to the current situation, I feel I was unfairly charged $264 and I tried to resolve the matter with the Hotel and Expedia. I was given the runaround with the Hotel Contessa for 3-4 business days telling me the Hotel manager was not available to solve my issue or approve the refund. And Expedia said they will continue to follow up until a response is provided. They just sent me an email telling me Hotel Contessa refused to provide a refund and I'm out of luck. I explained to them my job loss, family illness to the corona virus, and moving and it didn’t make a difference at all. Its completely wrong on so many levels and I guess the quick $264 profit is more important then having a continuing customer in the future. This Hotel and others should expect a rise in cancellations, no shows and adjustments to different situations of their customers. I don’t expect them to understand what I'm going through or what my family is going through, I just expected them to do the right thing, as human's going through this world pandemic that’s killing people and they failed. Spend you money elsewhere, if something goes wrong with your stay, don’t expect them to be on your side. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Worst experience ever

This hotel is supposed to be really great, before my stay I had called to ask if there was parking available , they said yes and that it's included in the price , once we arrived we had realized that parking was a separate price. They gave us a room right in front of the elevators saying that the reason is that they had 70% capacity and that was the limit and they couldn't offer a different room , so the noise was insane we couldn't sleep all night, the following night we asked to be moved , so they moved us to a different room which we found out from the cleaning lady that it has not been cleaned since the COVID-19 breakout can you believe that??? it's sick and to be honest who knows if the other rooms are sanitized , that hotel should be shut down!! When I confronted the front desk , all they could say is the cleaning lady is lying , so if someone had stayed recently at the hotel contessa in San Antonio and got the corona virus you now know why! they should ashamed! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
