Faded Chintz!

Aug 30th, 2020

What can one say about the Hotel Continentale? The hotel may have been elegant 50 years ago but it is now seriously in need of a facelift! Its faded glamour matches its faded carpets and it now resembles a cross between a Chinese takeaway and Liberace’s boudoir! Plastic flowers, gold furniture and lace curtains abound. Breakfast was very poor with what looked very much like powdered orange juice. Dogs were even allowed in the breakfast room. My room was clean and bright, staff were friendly and the hotel is only a few minute’s walk from the Piazza Grande. More use should be made of the rooftop terrace. A faded hotel that doesn’t seem to want to or is unable to move with the times TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

In need of an upgrade

Mar 23rd, 2020

I have to say I was very disappointed with my 4 night stay at this hotel while I was working nearby. On arrival I asked if there was anywhere I could park and was told by the receptionist that "the hotel has a private garage for 10 euros a day". After I checked in he told me that the porter would show me the way to the garage. The porter took me outside and pointed to some traffic lights in the distance, across the huge roundabout outside the hotel. I followed his instructions and ended up in the city's municipal underground car park, which is a fair distance from the hotel and not very large. I had to wait around for quite a while until someone left and left a space for me to park my car. Not ideal when you have finished a days work to hope for a car parking space when you get there and then have to walk some way to the hotel. Once in the hotel the room was very small, decorated like something from a distant past and not very clean. The shower was just about adequate, with hardly the room to swing a cat and the bed was small and uncomfortable. The general ambience in the place was quite depressing and the hotel in general is in need of a serious upgrade to bring it into the modern world. There is nowhere to eat in the restaurant and the breakfast was as disappointing as the rest of the hotel. No hot food, just the usual continental style buffet but not one that appealed to me. I ate breakfast elsewhere every morning. The breakfast room was huge and I cannot understand why they do not use it as a proper restaurant and give guests the opportunity to eat in after a days work, without the need to walk around the city looking for somewhere to eat. I am always disappointed when I have to leave a bad review but unfortunately I feel that this hotel leaves me no choice after a very disappointing experience of staying there. Never again, unless they do something about the decor, comfort and cleanliness in order to offer their guests a much needed, improved experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good hotel worth checking out

Dec 19th, 2019

A good location , easy walk to all the historical places in the center of the town. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was good. Mattresses not very comfy and the same with the pillows. The terrace on the top worth having a drink with a view. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely Position

Oct 10th, 2019

Overall, this Hotel is excellent, great position, nice rooms and lovely staff and a very comfortable lounge. The downside is breakfast .. Not enough staff to cope with the number guests, food was good, but usually cold and constantly out of certain items. The Orange Juice jug was often empty, but the other 5 or 6 jugs of juices, which are obviously unpopular, were constantly full. the coffee cups are at the opposite end of the restaurant to the coffee machine, as are many other dishes. It is a constant trek to collect a plate of a cup. Someone needs to ORGANISE the breakfast Room and get someone to remove the very noticeable dust from the insid window ledges. The reception and bar staff/porters are very good and I want to give a Special Thanks to Umair, who was wonderful. Apart from the breakfast problems, I would recommend this lovely hotel.
