Atmosphere is amazing

Aug 13th, 2019

Hotel de Orangerie in Bruges has the most stunning atmosphere - the common rooms are particularly well decorated, and there is so much historical charm preserved throughout the property. My room looked out over the canal, and the water view is certainly worth the extra money because the people watching never disappoints - I escaped the height of the day's heat and busyness by retreating into my beautiful and watching the boats and tourists pass down below. The city gets much quieter around 6PM, and evening walking is a pleasure. Hotel de Orangerie also offered an excellent breakfast (limited, but everything offered was very nice quality). Tea was also very good, even if the service during tea was very neglectful. The other staff were all wonderful - especially the women at the front desk (friendly, helpful, and competent). I worried Bruges might be too touristy, but I loved it. I also worried all the hotels in Bruges would be poor quality because the city is becoming a tourist trap, but Hotel de Orangerie was a gem - an exceptional, boutique experience. A little paradise where the old and the new meet together

Aug 13th, 2019

Great location, nice and helpful staff, clean and cosy room, basic breakfast. The parking lot is a little bit far away from the hotel, but accessible by a few minutes walk. The elevator makes scary noises, and can be slow... but no major issue. Professional Nespresso in the room, the capsules failed nearly 50%. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Past Glories

Aug 6th, 2019

We have been visiting Bruges every year in August since about 2000 and we have stayed in numerous hotels and guest houses and therefore have a good spread of hotel experience. De Orangerie, as reviews will testify is in a great location and would obviously impress many first time visitors to the city. Unfortunately the hotel feels trapped in the 1950's, the staff, the service are faultless, it's clean and comfortable but lacks that genuine feeling of history. Threadbare carpets in reception and dingy wallpaper give a poor first impression which continues into the ancient lift. The Orangerie is like an old "liner" in need of a re-fit to return her to her former glories. Bruges overflows with hotels and De Orangerie no longer wears the crown. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing Hotel in Brugge

Aug 2nd, 2019

I cannot say enough about this boutique hotel. It is charming and beautiful and in the best location. It's close to the market square, canal rides, everything you'd want to see. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. We stayed in the family room with our two teenage children. The room was perfect. There was a king bed upstairs along with a half bath and a pull out sofa downstairs with a full bath. The common rooms in the lobby are so comforting and inviting you will find yourself sitting in them at the end of each day having a glass of wine, playing chess or reading. The outdoor terrace is a great place to sit on the canal and people watch. We signed up for the afternoon tea and loved it! The front desk staff was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations that were not tourist locations. Every meal was fantastic! You should know, that they only serve breakfast, drinks, and tea at the hotel. You can't order dinner there, but it truly doesn't matter. My entire family loved our stay here. If we come back to Brugge we will definitely stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
