Best recommendation for any hotel? You wish you could have stayed longer!

What a delightful find the Hotel Griffon is. Even before our courtesy upgrade (courtesy of booking through we were delighted with the service and the welcome, not to mention the location: literally on the SF waterfront. I did so appreciate the boutique hotel ambience and that they've honored the history of this post-1906 earthquake property. Every modern feature you need is available without being intrusive and the blend of modern design in a historic building is perfect. While the rooms are a bit on the small side, they are quite comfortable, very clean and efficient. Even with windows facing the street we barely heard a peep from outside. And the bed! Omigosh - that mattress was perfection and the best collection of soft/medium/firm pillows you could imagine. HVAC was so quiet you couldn't even hear it and the shower was "6' tall guy" sized (you have no idea how the small things matter). All the staff were delightful; professional and courteous. Do not miss Perry's, the hotel's restaurant. Very reasonably priced with daily specials. Superb wine selection, esp the by the glass choices, and for San Francisco, not the least overpriced. My only complaint, and it is quite minor, the complimentary morning setup in the lobby could use just a bit more than coffee, tea or fruit. Some of us don't eat big in the morning, but like a bit of protein to start the day. We look forward to returning. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Cute, good location

Feb 16th, 2020

First time staying here, it's quite nice. Rooms are not huge, but that's to be expected in a building from the early 1900s! Beds are comfy, and the pillows actually have some support. A few steps, you're at the Ferry Building, or jump on a streetcar and head to Fisherman's Wharf. Close to BART & MUNI, a short Lyft ride away from CalTrain. Perry's is on the first floor, great breakfast. I recently discovered they make a damn good fish and chips top. The bar is usually crowded, but it's a fun spot to grab a nitecap. Staff are all amazing, they aim to please and are super friendly (sweet housekeeper was quite concerned I was leaving without a jacket, I assured her I was only going downstairs for breakfast) My only complaint, the in room coffee is quite weak. I survived though....Philz is nearby. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great stay at Hotel Griffon

Feb 5th, 2020

This is a wonderful property to stay when visiting San Francisco. We spent four nights. It’s located directly over Perry’s Embarcadero restaurant and a couple of blocks from the BART Embarcadero station, Market Street and the Ferry Building. It’s age gives it character, rooms are clean and quiet, staff is friendly, professional and attentive. We were fortunate to get a room with a view of the bay and will plan to stay here again. Great Experience, quite expensive

Jan 23rd, 2020

Great Hotel - very accommodating staff, convenient location, good experience - but I am struggling to balance the cost with the facilities. The room felt quite small, with little natural light, for the price. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
