The hotel looked great from the pictures on the website but it was very old. Oscar at the bar was great and the staff, overall, were nice. My room was the most disappointing. It smelled like an old musty attic or closet. I really can't believe I stayed in that room that night. I won't be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great experience

I highly recommend the Hotel Icon. I stayed recently while on business. The location is very good and the staff and room was great. And value was excellent. The hotel is good whether you traveling for business or pleasure. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great service and location

Needed a hotel near Minute Maid and prefer "Bonvoy", and the Icon was well located and well priced for our needs. Service was excellent and very friendly, and the space is very attractive. Parking onsite is expensive, considering there is $10 parking very near by Room is well sized. Good gym TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good Hotel but...

I saw some reviews complained about the service there. I met the same problem. I asked Dental Kit and body lotion, and they didn't deliver them after 3 hours. Finally I have to go to the front desk to get them. The hotel is great and very historic. But the service there is apparently not "Autograph Collection" standard at all.I am a Platinum Member of Marriott Bonvoy, it did not help anything. Besides the unpleasant experience, the room is good, shower space is the largest I ever met. The breakfast is good too, I love somked salmon. This building was a bank, they kept the safe door and use it as the background of the front dest, very interesting! The location of this hotel is great, just at the heart of downtown Houston. Old hotel and rude and unprofessional staff

May 21st, 2019

The worst experience ever. Me, my wife and our 4-year old checked in the hotel around 4:30 p.m. As soon as we get to our floor, we realized we were given the room very next to the elevator. My little one has very light sleep so my wife asked if I could go down and ask if we can change the room. Since we didn’t even enter the room so I thought it should be an easy process. I went down, talked to the front desk lady, and she told me I have to pay extra $40/night to “upgrade.” I said I don’t want to “upgrade,” I am just asking for a different room. Then she told me the room I chose on Priceline are all next to the elevator (weird, I’ve never heard about this kind of “room type”:). After a little bit discussion, the lady told me she could cancel my reservation, and I can go somewhere else. Then I asked to talk to someone else. A front desk manager (DeAndrea) came out and asked how she can help me (typical play dumb style). I told her the problem I was having, and she said I have to pay $30/night to “upgrade” (notice the price difference? they are just making things up whatever they want). I immediately lost my trust and either of them and asked to talk to John (Got the name from the business card on the front desk). DeAndrea told me immediately he is in the meeting (typical canned reply). One thing worked out pretty well though, we didn’t like the smell ((the smell of mold, nor the strong fragrance which I am sure they used to cover the bad smell) of the hotel and we styed at a different hotel for our stay in Houston. lol TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
