Locked out of room for an hour and NO apology

Spent one night, spent $500 on two rooms for my family. Pretty entrance, and first check in was fine. We went on a Friday night, pretty dead, no live music nor fire pits on, perhaps best to check ahead of time as they have a music calendar. I booked two large king suites, mother in law got one of the older rooms, had a nice kitchenette bar with microwave and burners. I stayed with family in a newly remodeled room (same category) that did not have any of the kitchenette items, but did have mini fridge and keurig. My room also had 3 doors, one from the car park, one to a random unused brick area, and one to the pool courtyard. Here is where it all went BAD. We had an ok sleep, but I should mention, we were on the bottom floor and heard every single footstep above us and people jumping on the bed, knocking into our ceiling, we also could hear the buzzing sound of the washing machines beneath the room. And this morning, we went back to the room from breakfast (by the way, no breakfast kids menu at the restaurant, only dinner kids menu, which is a little odd) and we tried the room keys on the pool side and they didn’t work, walked around to the car park side and neither worked, then my husband walked back to the lobby to have them recharge and received NO apology from Barbara, but only a “yeah, that happens! The door batteries die! Here try it again and good luck! but if it doesn’t work, you’ll have to go to the service elevator and press a help button over there.” so my husband comes back to the room, tries the card keys, and they don’t work, which Barbara predicted, but made no apology nor extra effort to help. So we had to walk around the resort looking for the service elevator and someone to help, found someone and he tried the doors and he couldn’t get in either! The batteries were dead in ALL the door locks. Finally he got a regular key and opened the door poolside. (which we found out later, never works for security, even though it has a card reader! ******note to management, you might want to tell people this upon check in!!!) regardless, we lost an hour this morning, so our planned hour in the jacuzzi with our family before check out was ruined....and worst offense is that NOT ONE APOLOGY, and on top of that Barbara told us it was our fault we locked ourselves out because we put a double door lock on the third door (um yes she did.) she maintained it was our fault that we were locked out of their hotel without an apology as I was given my receipt for $500. Thanks Barbara, my family and I WILL NEVER return. It’s really so simple to offer an apology and this is unforgivable. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Work & Play

This was my first stay here & I enjoyed how spacious my room was for me to do morning yoga. I also appreciate how walkable it was to the beach & the town. It is also great in terms of driving distance to San Diego. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Worst indigo ever

This review is written based on the 2 rooms we were given and the refurb work going on at the time. Easy to find and plenty of free parking on arrival. A plus for the u.s. on entering reception all looked nice including next door restaurant and bar. This is where it all went down hill. The man at reception said we were to early but would work things out. Apparently he changed the room we were due and put us in 308. Please do not stay in this room. We were next to the car park. Sound reduction is nil. After unpacking in what looked a very tired and dated room (new rooms not ready we were told) we got ready for dinner. On our way out we found ants crawling up the door and blood stained fingerprints on the wall. We reported the ants and apparently they we dealt with. When we returned we had the joy of the worst nights sleep ever in a hotel. Fridge woke uu up at 1am buzzing. Neighbours aircon hummed all night. Everytime water was run by other rooms the pipes erupted. People coming in at 3am then 5am. Then refurb workers started banging at 8am. When we complained oh what a surprise . Would you like a new room (ones that were not available). Yes please. No help in moving just given a map. What a difference the new room. Oh so nice. We had 2 great nights sleep. The pool areas are ok but like the hotel are dated. Tiny thin towels. Beds with paper thin matresses and floor areas dirty. Pool was ok . The bar was the best part of the hotel. Good food and drink and the best staff. Overall a rundown indigo in need of major refurb beyond the rooms. Could not reccomend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Service but Somewhat Disappointing!

This was our second stay here. We booked a ocean view room with a balcony. Unfortunately, when we checked into our room at 2:30 pm, the room had not been cleaned. How did the front desk not know? We instead took another room(not ocean view or with a balcony)instead. This room was clean, but the wooden door blinds were broke, the lamp shades had holes in them and the furnishings were overall outdated and on the shabby side. I love that this hotel is so pet friendly, but witnessed many occupants not cleaning up after their animals in the grassy areas. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Peaceful Setting in a Posh Neighborhood

Booked last minute for the holiday weekend. Got last room, so the hotel was full, but we hardly saw anyone around. Room 311 was located just above the pool, and we could also see the ocean from the patio. Room was large and comfortable. A bit bright in the am. 15-minute walk to restaurants and cafes. 25 mins to the beach. Very friendly and attentive desk and restaurant staff. Housekeeping not so much except for the one younger Haitian guy. Nice central spot to explore La Jolla and SD (via highway) to the south or Encinitas to the north. Pre-pay for breakfast! It's about half the price. Portions were large and tasty. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
