Boutique stay in Montreal's Le Plateau neighbourhood
Mar 10th, 2020
I have stayed in this hotel several times now. It is only four floors. Each room is charming and updated with a kitchenette for cleaning wine glasses and plate. It is connected to the equally awesome Ethiopian restaurant The Blue Nile which offers in room dining. Great little fire escape patio which is quintessential Montreal architecture. So much to see in a 30 min walking radius. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Always an interesting and friendly stay

I've got a list of my favorite hotels for staying on the Plateau, and Kutuma is solidly at the top of the list. The location is convenient, the rooms quirky but pleasant, and I've always had top-notch service from staff (including them being very accommodating when I accidentally booked two rooms instead of one). They only have valet parking, but the charges are reasonable and the staff very fast at retrieving vehicles. Only oddity? The entire hotel sits upstairs of an Ethiopian restaurant (same owners, indeed, the check-in desk is also the maitre d's station for the restaurant), and the highly aromatic (but pleasing) odors from the restaurant are present through most of the hotel. It's definitely not unpleasant, but if you like Ethiopian food? You'll often be hungry TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Kutuma Hotel in Montreal, Quebec, offers a nice room. But the location is not really as I expected.. (personally would rather choose Old Montreal area once visited the area). If you plan to stay there try to book rooms at lower level since there is no elevator (got the room at 4th floor, but luckily the hotel staff help carrying our big luggages up and downstair). The hotel reception staff were all nice. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hotel canceled our reservation less than 24 hours before our stay
Aug 15th, 2019
Someone from the hotel called me the evening before to tell me that they needed to cancel (due to a technical issue), and were looking for another property. We booked through booking.com (A mistake, I've since found out), so I reached out to them first. The hotel then called me back and said that they COULD accommodate us. In the middle of the night, we received an email from Booking.com that our reservation was indeed cancelled, so at 4:30am, while on my vacation, I was forced to search for another hotel. I had to apply for a refund via Booking.com, the hotel shorted my refund, causing me to email and call Booking.com several times. We stayed at the Loft Hotel instead which my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. As much as I love staying at smaller properties, I have no tolerance for poor customer service. Thank goodness we had an available credit line to cover the cost of the additional hotel, if we were using a debit card, we would have had no place to stay due to how long it takes for refund.
