I cannot praise this hotel enough! It is elegant, beautiful and well located. The staff is superior. Their dining room is gorgeous and the breakfasts are outstanding! Highly recommended. Easy walk to everywhere! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It's the little things

May 26th, 2019

Just came back from a weekend in Mtl. We decided to stay at hotel Le St James because our experience 4 years ago was outstanding. What happened St James? I had emailed hotel a few days ahead asking for ice bucket and champagne glasses in our room at check in as it was my boyfriend's birthday. On arrival....no ice bucket or glasses but a lovely note from the GM wishing my boyfriend a happy birthday....no follow up with the actual request. Ok....let's let that go. But again, it's the little things. At $400 a night for the cheapest room....light in shower burnt out, air conditioner stuck at 18°C...we froze, sink in bathroom doesn't drain, waste basket not emptied by housekeeping, glasses not replenished 2nd day. 4 hours to wait for wine glasses...4 hours?? Seriously, this hotel is not big, it is not overwhelming to get glasses to a room in a timely manner. The day we checked out, we called ahead to the valet to have the car ready. We checked out no more than 30 mins later, no car. Informed the front desk again, and waited another 15 mins. This isn't our first rodeo, we've stayed in hotels before. We've stayed in budget hotels and stayed in luxury hotels. Our stay this time at the St James was SO disappointing. Quality price ratio is way off. So so not worth the price this time. Stay somewhere else for less to avoid the disappointment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Terrific Hotel

Apr 28th, 2019

Stayed with friends here to catch for a weekend - terrific hotel, lovely staff, great location. Much appreciated the restaurant staff’s kindness at breakfast and willingness to help with dietary requirements. Well kept rooms. Location walking distance even in bad weather from many sights. Would absolutely stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A wonderful stay in Montreal

Apr 20th, 2019

I am family of five from the U.S. (three kids: 12, 12, 8) and we made a trip up north for spring break. We were in Quebec City for two nights and then Montreal. We chose this hotel in Montreal - what a wonderful experience in a great location and a great historic building. We stayed three nights durnig the month of April 2019. Room quality was top notch and service EXCEEDED that I have received at any luxury hotel in the U.S. that I have had the pleasure to stay at (mostly when lucky enough to stay there for business). One day I had to do some work so I was working in the well decorated library (which is a great room by the way) and they offerred and brought me some coffee. It's the little things and the staff at this hotel seem to be a step ahead of you at every turn. The hotel is centrally located, the common areas don't get any better. The gym was a little small but certainly serviceable - could see it getting a little crowded if the hotel was at 100% capacity. The concierge and front desk staff were always willing to help and always smiling. The fact that I had somewhat younger children did not ever make me feel uncomfortable about being there or having them there. All the staff went out of their way to welcome them. The restaurant (albeit a little bit more on the pricey side) is just a beautiful and relaxing place to have a meal (we only did it for breakfast) and the quality is top notch. The bar area is great and well-serviced as well - a good selection of some spirits you can't get in the U.S. (ask the bartender Pierre - he was helpful and on top of things). I don't have any photos to upload, but I can corroborate that the photos on their website and on TripAdvisor at the time of the publishing of this review do appropriately represent the property in good faith. I would recommend this hotel and will definitely have it at #1 on my list for booking if I am lucky to go back to Montreal. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Gorgeous old hotel

Mar 3rd, 2019

Gracious, professional staff is the best thing about this lovely old quarter hotel. Rooms are large, overheated, tastefully decorated, with stocked mini fridges, Nespresso machine (not so user-friendly model), nightly turn-down service w/ bottled water. Comfortable bedding, though the mattress sagged a bit. Cable TV extremely limited. Free wifi. Robes/slippers/toiletries provided. Large, well-appointed bathroom. $40 valet parking.
