Great location but dated and tired

Oct 31st, 2019

Fantastic location, a few minutes walk from the Opera House. The room was huge, a large bedroom along with a separate lounge area with kitchenette and a small shower room. The room was very dated and tired and didn't smell very fresh although it clearly had been cleaned. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, not comfortable

Oct 14th, 2019

First, the good: The location was great, so close to the Museums Quarter, the Ringstadt, public transit. The room was clean. The staff were friendly and professional. However, we were very very uncomfortable here. The biggest issue by far was that on our second night, the hotel turned off the air conditioning for the entire hotel and turned on the heat. It was in the 60s-70s F so it was relatively cool in Vienna I suppose, but we had unfortunately gotten sick during our vacation— so we were hot in our room. With the window open, a breeze wouldn’t come inside, but insects did. We asked if we could borrow a fan, but they did not have any. We spent two more nights sweating it out, basically unable to sleep. Regardless of why we felt warm, in even the cheapest motel you can control the temperature of your own room. Maybe your preference is just to sleep with the a/c cranked way up, when you pay a lot of money for a room you expect to sleep however makes you comfortable. To have no control at all while we were sick during a long awaited vacation drove me to tears. The bed itself was also not comfortable. We had to ask for extra pillows, there was one each and they were thin and insubstantial. Having two didn’t help much. The tv was on a desk on the side of the room, so it was not visible from the bed. Normally we’d be sightseeing not watching tv but we needed a day in the (hot) room to recover from our illness so the weird placement of the tv added to our growing frustration. Disappointed not to have breakfast included, but we knew that when we booked. Overall: not the staff’s fault at any point, all issues inherent in the design (I guess) of the hotel. Not a place we would recommend or return to. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Intriguing Housekeeping Standards

Oct 1st, 2019

The pluses: Great location, we could walk to many of the major sights, also very convenient for trams and trains to the Belvedere, Schonbrunn Palace, etc. The staff: pleasant and helpful reception team, friendly and efficient breakfast team. Breakfast: everything we enjoy: muesli, yogurt, fruit, fantastic traditional Austrian bread, good coffee. The room: a large, clean, quiet room on the third floor with a good-sized bathroom in which everything worked. Ample storage space. Overall: A pleasant hotel and a restful stay. And now the big minus: Some day(s) before we arrived, someone had clearly been violently sick on the pavement outside. The result had dried but even so, it was extremely unpleasant, and it remained on the pavement for the whole length of our visit. After we drew it to the hotel’s attention, we saw a staff member pour hot water over it but of course it needed a good scrub for any improvement to be made. In addition, the external entrance was covered in leaves, dust and debris and was clearly never swept or cleaned. Intriguing to fathom why the very good internal housekeeping standards do not extend to the hotel’s exterior. The guest’s first impression should be ‘wow, this looks great!’ Unfortunately, ours was ‘what on earth have we let ourselves in for?’ Pride in standards comes from the top. There is a very willing team at the Mercure Secession, so perhaps some leading by example would not go amiss? TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Vienna in August

Aug 28th, 2019

Recently enjoyed a 4 day stay at Mercure Secession in Vienna. Very friendly staff, very helpful. Great location, walking distance to lots of different things to see, especially if its your first trip to Vienna. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but that seems to be the case throughout Europe, not just exclusive to Vienna. Room was clean and comfortable, bed was good, no problem with outside noise. Would recommend without hesitation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
