Disappointing Stay

Jul 16th, 2019

I had booked the stay through HotelTonight and had added a guest to my room, as the guest would potentially be checking in before me. My guest checked in before I did and somehow, my reservation was changed to his name. When I arrived about an hour after he did, the front desk clerk stated there was no reservation under my name, despite the room being booked in my name and my guest checking in. The clerk stated he would call my guest “because we need to make sure he’s expecting you.” I was so embarrassed and frustrated as the clerk picked up the desk phone, called my guest, passed the receiver to me and I had to ask him to please speak to the clerk so that I could receive a room key and be allowed to check in. Not only was this an issue at the front desk, but it created a problem with the valet, as they were looking for my guest’s name to charge the service to when in fact, it should have been under my name, another issue I had to correct. The room itself was spacious but I agree with the bed critiques. The mattress was not comfortable at all and the bed frame appeared to be either broken or the wrong size for the queen sized bed. The wallpaper in the room was peeling in three places and the bathroom door is simply bizarre: it’s a sliding door on a floating hinge so there is absolutely no privacy in the bathroom at all. Additionally, the shower is poorly designed so that even with the shower head turned away from you, you’ll still become wet as you turn the water on because of a fixed piece of plate glass that encases the shower halfway. There is no other curtain or glass so the floor is also wet by the time the shower is done. I had higher hopes for a hotel with a Four Diamond rating that is also part of the Kimpton brand. We were very disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful building

Jul 10th, 2019

The street level of the former B & O Railroad headquarters was beautiful with the marble staircases and the stained glass windows. The lobby was one level up. The hotel was a few blocks from the Inner Harbor which was very convenient. If a person went the other direction towards Lexington Market, it was not a safe part of downtown. We have stayed at many Kimpton hotels and appreciate the wine and appetizers at 5:00...not on weekends though. The room was a typical Kimpton style room with a few exceptions. The comforters were old and lumpy. In the morning, I heard a loud high pitched noise from the adjacent room which turned out to be the shower. When we turned on the shower, it was the same irritating noise. We ate at Nick's Fish House which had excellent crab. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Friday nite stay

Jul 6th, 2019

The hotel is in a good location. It was about 3 and 1/2 city blocks to Inner Harbor. The rooms were a nice size. We stayed on the 9th floor. The view was of an empty lot which wasn't a big deal to us. We came to be close to the Harbor. They offer valet parking which is 42.00 and very convenient. The hotel was quiet and also 'dog friendly". I would stay here again. It exceeded my expectations. It was a very safe hotel. Noone could enter guest floors without a room pass which operated the elevators. They offered free wine andd coffee in what they called the "living room" I recommend this hotel. It was a great value for the price that we payed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great historic hotel

Jul 6th, 2019

Had a superb 2 night stay in this beautiful historic hotel. It is well located with about a 5-10 minute walk to the marina. Complementary wine and cheese in the evening was a real bonus. The room was spacious with high ceilings, two queen sized beds; ample room for the 3 of us. Although we didn’t have ours with us, the hotel is dog friendly which was nice to see. We really enjoyed our stay here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

On the Verge of Being a Nice Hotel

Jul 2nd, 2019

To Whom It May Concern, We really struggled with our current stay at the Kimpton Monaco in Baltimore, MD. Reservations: I called the main reservation number to make reservations - great conversation, honored their price match guarantee, offered to add 500 points to my account if I stayed on the line and answered a survey. It was a trap - no confirmation email ever arrived, and the “survey” was a sales pitch (you get 4 days/three nights complimentary stay at ...). Sales pitch lady was so rude I had to hang up to discontinue her talking over me. I ended up calling the next day, discovering that no reservation was in the system, and paying more to book a room at all. He recommended I speak with a manager when I checked in, because the local managers can change the prices. Room Condition: our Queen/Queen deluxe room had a full mattress on a queen sized bed frame and one complete queen bed. I went down to speak to a manager and was told that she was on the phone. I explained the entire situation and waited while Monique took a call and then handed me new keys - I had to figure out what she was trying to communicate because she didn’t tell me. She did tell me that all the beds are queens - not fulls. I asked to pay for what I was getting - since I wasn’t getting the room I was paying for, and Monique explained that I needed to speak to the revenue manager who was on maternity leave for the next month (with no replacement) or some other kind of manager who had just had a death in the family. Soooo ... the only two people on the planet who can help me are MIA, and no one else can do anything to make this right? Additional room grievances: No signal on tv channels. Empty shower gel and shampoo dispensers. No privacy with the sliding bathroom door (there was a huge gap). Moldy bathrooms. Broken elevator. $42/night parking. Not a great part of town. Through it all, we haven’t heard an apology - which would have gone a long way! This hotel has so much potential (it is a beautiful, historic property) - but its service and facilities are poorly delivered at best. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
