Overview

Home to popular, historic Carousel Bar & Lounge
Some recent guests felt rooms were outdated

The Hotel Monteleone has boarded the who's who of American literati, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, to name a few. Even some of the new class (like Anne Rice, Winston Groom and John Grisham) have stayed here for a night or two. The hotel's revolving Carousel Bar & Lounge has become an icon that features prominently in books and movies about the city of New Orleans. In other words, the Hotel Monteleone is an institution. As such, it's hard to determine whether previous guests' opinions of their stay are based on quality or legacy. Some patrons gush over the hotel's charm, while others complain of cramped rooms and a dated look and feel. Rooms include Keurig coffee makers, HDTVs and iHome radios. Most everyone agrees, though, that the staff here is very personable and the location is superb. The Hotel Monteleone sits on Royal Street in the French Quarter.

One of the grand old hotels of New Orleans, the Hotel Monteleone dates to 1886 and oozes sophistication, romance, and history. The rooms are luxurious with Italian bed linens and Keurig coffee makers, and the ornate, baroque-style facade, liveried doormen, shimmering lobby chandeliers, and nightly live jazz warm many a traditionalist's heart.

There is almost nothing modest about the venerable Monteleone, family-owned since 1886. ...The larger suites offer roomy, classic gentility, but standard rooms can be, well, on the modest side.
