Average room

Only stayed one night. Room was quite small and very dated. Everything worked however, it could do with an upgrade. Very few electric outlets. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special. Restaurant and front desk staff were pleasant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good standard City Hotel

Jun 6th, 2019

As our last stop in a grand tour of Japan the New Otani had a lot to live up to. The location is quite good being in a commercial area although some distance from the harbour, the metro station is very close by. Our room (867) overlooked the front street but was quiet. It is quite a large room but a little jaded and old fashioned. We understand that the hotel is progressively refurbishing its rooms, the new rooms are much lighter in colour and have more modern furnishings. The bathroom was a good size and also a little old fashioned. We had an excellent breakfast but did not experience the problems of overcrowding as we did not need to go in till much later. The public areas on the ground floor are really nice and spacious and staff very friendly. I would recommend this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Luxury you can afford

Jun 2nd, 2019

The hotel is located 10 minutes by bus or taxi from the Shinkansen-station Hakata. The rooms are well-appointed and comparatively large. You can choose between Japanese (9th floor) and Western (1st floor) breakfast. Treat yourself to a culinary experience and a table with a view by opting for the Japanese breakfast. It was absolutely delicious with impeccable service. The concierge was first class, too. She searched for and telephoned sushi restaurants on our behalf and her recommandations were excellent. Group tour

May 19th, 2019

My husband and arrived at 9am to this hotel and check in is not until 2pm, so they kindly stored our luggage until 2pm (we were unable to get into our room any earlier). The reception desk gave us a map and advised which way to go to explore the city, which was very helpful. They did tell us to catch the train, which is located very close by and take it to the second stop and get off. We decided that instead of catching the train that we would walk - approx 25 minutes stroll - easily done on flat land. Location is very good for shops, some sights and convenience store and market. This hotel's decor is lovely, staff are very pleasant (something that you will find throughout Japan), nice large lobby, plenty of lifts, good sized rooms. The rooms have a very well stocked bathroom, although the towels could be of better quality. My biggest complaint is the restaurant for breakfast - "The Green House" It may hold up to 110 people but the buffet breakfast is not up to scratch, especially when tour groups are using the facilities. Upon opening time it was extremely busy and not enough tables to cope with the demand. Unfortunately the food run out quickly and so need the coffee and mugs. The staff were doing the best they could not please people but unfortunately they were undermanned. The set up for the buffet could be improved by redesigning the room. Perhaps management needs to see how other hotels cope. We also priced the restaurants for lunch and dinner and found them to be expensive, so suggest eating out. Overall the hotel was fine for a night or two. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
