It's fine

Dec 7th, 2019

My room was fine--actually pretty roomy, though the carpet was pretty old and I can't help thinking that the little bottle of conditioner in the bathroom had been used (see photos). But really nothing to complain about. Everything is clean. Courteous, no-frills service. Good location if you want to be on the Upper West Side. My room had a nice renovated bathroom, but some rooms have SHARED bathrooms, so be sure of what you're getting. Maybe call and confirm before you travel. Also had a fridge and microwave, which are nice conveniences. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Exceeded Expectations

Dec 2nd, 2019

While we anticipated a moderate experience, the hotel and staff exceeded our expectations. Friendly and helpful. Basic continental food available. Room came with a shared bathroom; while we did not expect that share, it worked out fine. The Air conditioner was very noisy perhaps needing some repair but we just opened the window for fresh air. Room small but adequate. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Despite the bathroom along the corridor, I would book again.

Nov 30th, 2019

I arrived the 13th of November, and quickly headed from airport to The Hotel Newton, my residence for the 4 days I was in New York. Upon arrival I was met with polite, efficient and friendly staff. And was quickly ensconced in my room. Comfy bed, excellent lighting, large closet for my clothing, toiletries and fluffy towels. Although I booked a room with the toilet on the corridor not ensuite I only had to wait on another guest once. The Hotel is right beside 96th Street subway station, has a wine store across the street and a Duane reade next door where you can grab some essentials and snacks. The hotel itself provides coffee in the lobby with free cookies and fresh fruit. An excellent grab as I returned from my day out to get ready for my evenings out. There is also and ice machine and vending machines in the hotel. Each room has a fridge and microwave so drinks and foodstuffs can be kept cold or reheated. There is a diner next door, and if you present your room key you get 10% off your bill. The hotel also happily arranged a transfer for me back to JFK on the day of my flight home. Can't say enough about this hotel, a definite place I will return too when next in NYC. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I like this place.

Nov 17th, 2019

I was surprised how much I liked this place. It was not fancy, but clean and comfortable. Rooms were a little noisy but not bad. Bathroom was really pretty nice. This is one of the old school buildings with hot water heat, so the heat is just on. It can get too warm for sleeping, but I rediscovered the trick of cracking open the bathroom window a touch to balance out the warm air. Perfect that way. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Enjoyed my stay!

Nov 14th, 2019

I had a room with a private bathroom on the 9th floor. I had a great stay here in this nicely sized room. I was solo but two people would have been just as comfortable. I made use of the microwave, small refrigerator and desk in the room. The bed was just-right firm and comfortable. The bathroom was roomy, updated and hot water in the shower was instant. I was there during a cold snap and after I made a call about how to turn the radiator on, a manager and maintenance person came up to check that the radiator was working properly. This was my first time staying in the Upper West Side and i enjoyed the relative quiet and proximity to the 96th street subway making access to all of Manhattan and the other boroughs easy. Factor into your room cost the 'resort fee' added per day that gets you wifi and 2 bottles of water/day. I would stay again, and if I needed to budget, the shared bathroom situation would be a viable option. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
