Nails the Basics, but it's all Downhill from There...

Mar 24th, 2020

I stayed at the Hotel Reina Victoria for eight nights with my friend in February. We booked a standard room which overlooks the hotel's "courtyard." We already knew what we were signing up for by booking this room (i.e., the "courtyard" is actually just a view of another brick wall and ventilation ducts), so there were no surprises there. Let's start with the positives of this hotel: Pros: -The hotel is in a perfect location, within walking distance to pretty much all attractions in the city -The staff were kind and helpful with making reservations for us -The room felt more spacious than the dimensions online suggest; the bed was comfortable and the shower was great -The room was extremely quiet However, that is where the positives end. In theory, the hotel has nailed the basics, so why the low rating? -The hotel is air conditioned, however ONLY in the summer. As someone coming from Canada, winter in Valencia is very warm comparatively. Not having any air conditioning (in fact, the heat was blowing even when the air conditioning was supposed to be on) in the winter meant the room got unbearably warm at night -The room had an unpleasant odour, reminiscent of sewage, for the entire duration of our stay -The Wi-Fi, which worked well for the first half of our stay, became unbearably slow and kicked us off on numerous occasions toward the end of our stay -There is no clock of any sort in the room -There are NO FACECLOTHS in the room. Seriously?! This is a claimed four-star hotel, and you have nothing to use in the shower? I have stayed at dozens of hotels around the world, and I have never been to a hotel without facecloths available -There was no ice available at all, which is ridiculous given that this is again a four-star property. I was informed by the staff that this was due to the restaurant being shut down, which I believe is only a seasonal affair -Lastly, and perhaps the last straw for our stay here, was that there was no bottle opener to be found in the entire hotel. How is that even possible?! Instead, my friend and I had to resort to finding a ledge or piece of furniture in the room to attempt to open our bottles on In summary, this hotel has the basics nailed. If that's enough for you, then by all means you should go ahead and stay here. However, if you value more than getting the basics in your four-star hotel, you can definitely find a better hotel in Valencia for the same price. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very pleasant city hotel

Mar 6th, 2020

Lovely room king size bed for one, walk in shower and very nice bathroom, looked new. Continental breakfast, not to our taste as eggs and bacon nearly cold. Not keen on lots of pastries, cheese and cold meats in morning. Staff very helpful and friendly gave us kettle and cups to make tea. Nothing too much trouble. Would stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Classy hotel

Mar 4th, 2020

My boyfriend and I stayed here just as an overnight to break up our trip to Barcelona. This is a lovely hotel in an excellent location. The staff at the reception desk was friendly and helpful. The room was well decorated and comfortable, and even though our room was on the second floor, it was quiet. They also have bathrooms available on Floor E so that you can access a toilet even if you'r unable to check-in to your room upon arrival. We didn't dine in the restaurant (also on Floor E) but it was fabulously decorated. I would come back to this hotel if I were to return to Valencia. On a side note, a taxi driver will likely know this only as the 'Hotel Reina Victoria' -- our driver seemed confused when we told him at first that we wanted to go to the One Shot Palacio Reina Victoria. Fabulous time at one shot

Just about to board our plane to Gatwick from Valencia and wanted to take a moment to post a review for this hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and can’t fault the hotel. Excellent location just off the square, this weekend was the start of the fire festival and we had fantastic views of the fireworks from our balcony. Room was spacious and clean, huge super king bed. We had breakfast one morning at the hotel which has tasty and there was a variety to choose from. There was a bar which is currently closed which is a shame as beautiful decor. Johnathan who worked on reception was very attentive and recommend and made reservations for dinner for us. A great find and would definitely recommend to others. Anna TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great central hotel

Feb 24th, 2020

We stayed for four nights and had a lovely balcony room on the third floor. Staff were friendly and helpful in making reservations for dinner. The bar was pretty, but did not seem to be open but there are plenty of options near by. We had no issue with noise even though we had to keep the window/door open due to the heat of the room. Air conditioning wasn’t on, wrong time of the year I guess. Overall we were really happy with our stay, Valencia is a beautiful city and we’ll definitely back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
