A group of us visited Puerto Vallarta at the end of July. Let me start by saying that they take Covid serious and it was relaxing to know all the precautions they take. The clean all day and night, I always saw someone disinfecting. You have your temp checked before every restaurant entry, u have to wear a mask when u aren’t at the table, and the buffet you have to “follow arrows” to ensure social distancing. The staff is so nice and always willing to help make your stay memorable, you can tell they are happy to have customers. Shot out to Yess at customer service and blacky at the pool. The pool water bar is closed, but there is always servers circling the pool and never had to wait for service regardless where we were in the pool. The resort itself is beautiful, the rooms are nice, a little dated but done well. I have stayed at Riu’s before and I can say the food here is subpar, most of the food at the buffet was not warm, so get live cooking things if you want hot food. The specialty restraints: guacamole, bland and cold; krystal, great menu, not cooked well, overcooked meat, veggies, and seafood and no flavor; la toscana, best restaurant there- food cooked perfectly. The nightly shows on the stage are very entertaining, shot out to the Michael Jackson show!! Complaints: you will not get room service during this time, the mini bar (liquor on the wall) is empty and they will not give you an open bottle for your room nor will they send u champagne. (I couldn’t understand that logic since I could go down to a bar and get 4 glasses of liquor if I wanted) no coffee maker in the room (which I understand) but they won’t bring u coffee or breakfast. They do however restock your fridge everyday. (Again don’t understand the logic) the resort is in Nuevo Vallarta so expect a 20 min taxi drive to Puerto Vallarta (500 pesos one way) for all your excursions. The spa is closed but if you want a massage there are booths on the beach right by the resort that offers 1 hour massages for $20!! Overall we loved our vacation and I will continue to stay at Rius because I just love how well you are taken care of. I will say it is worth traveling during this covid pandemic. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed here for 3 nights in July, during COVID. I did like that the hotel was not at full capacity, the pool chairs were available, there were no lines for food or drinks. Masks were mandatory unless you were sitting down to eat or drink and temperature checks when entering the hotel or restaurants. There was no spa and limited activities due to COVID. We came during COVID so it was sort of a modified experience, and I don’t usually write reviews but I have to say... The service at this resort from the front desk to the pool attendants to every server at every restaurant was incredible. I cannot get over how attentive the staff is and how friendly and helpful they are. Our trip was excellent because of that. The room was nice and clean (The building itself did have a few spots where the ceiling leaked in the rain which was not ideal), food was pretty good, pool and beach areas were clean and inviting, but the one thing that would make me want to come back was the service. It was absolutely perfect everywhere we went in the resort. 11/10 staff. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Do not stay here

I am currently at this hotel room 7046. My first time in PV. I knew with the covid stuff things would be different. My wife actually surprised me with a little get away to destress from work. I usually do Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Thought I would try PV. All things considering customs went smoothly. Check in at the hotel went smooth considering not a lot of people here. I may be one of a handful Americans here. Almost everything at the hotel is shut down. Pretty much only the buffet to eat at. One speciality restaurant open at night but only open for a couple hours. I was turned away from going because it was just me. No room service, spa fitness center all closed. No swim up bar. Good luck getting a drink the staff stand around and ignore you and rather talk to each other. Usually when you walk by staff at most hotels they give you a friendly greeting. Not here not one person will say anything to you they act like they were forced back to work. The buffet food is by far the worse I have ever had since that is what you are limited you are screwed. I laughed when I saw the child size bath tub and mini fridge is hot not even warm or cool. Cold was not even a option. Again I do understand things are crazy right now but when you pay the same price and get this crap in return it makes me regret choosing this Hotel. I did see any recent reviews so wasn't aware everything still pretty much closed. I will never stay at this Hotel or a RIU again. When you are refused seating in a restaurant because you are a solo traveler that is bs. I went to the front desk and of course no manager is ever available the response I got was why was I traveling alone like that is a crime here. I will not travel again until things return to normal and will not be back to PV. Good bye RIU. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed for 11 nights November 2019 we loved every single second from the minute we walked through the doors. We found the food and drinks amazing and loved to whole ambience. We met some great people. We were planning to return November 2020 but we’ll see with the lockdown. As soon as it’s safe to do so well be back to say hello to everyone again. Until then stay safe x TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
