Serves its purpose well

Mar 29th, 2020

Accommodations, food, beach/pool and entertainment were great. Most staff were friendly but had a few that seemed grumpy always. The one thing that was disappointing was their Snack Shack. The snack Lounge I think they called had limited appetizing options. Burgers and hotdogs were over cooked, meat for nachos was dried up. They needed better options, like fries, bags of chips, cheese and crackers, fruit tray, veggie tray. These are things you want at midnight after drinking. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beach is Amazing!!! Food and drinks was just OK!

Mar 24th, 2020

We visited the Riu tropical bay from March 14-21.... probably the last week before the island was shut down because of the pandemic. We took a private taxi from MBJ which took us about little over an hour. Check in was a breeze, the rooms were renovated, modern, spacious and clean. The beach was the best part of the resort. I’ve been around the carribean and thought this beach on bloody bay was the best. Probably nicer than next door 7 mile beach which is a little too shallow upto the ropes. The food was just ok( a bit monotonous) and the booze was bottom shelf.... next time we will bring our own liquor. For what we paid we expected better booze and food. But in a way we didn’t drink or eat too much so I’ll take that side of the positive. The gym was a little outdated and I don’t go back after my first visit. We paid for an hour massage on the beach and got about 40 minutes of it. The jerk hut was AMAZING!!! the service was great. Only issue we had was midweek they consolidated 3 RIU’s into one place was a little crowded. Specially when they had a sign at the Japanese restaurant that they will only seat 20 people because of the virus. I understand they weren’t running the other 2 resorts to capacity and wanted to cut costs but guests at the RIU tropical bay paid more to stay there than the RIU next door where we have stayed before as well. I would probably reconsider staying there if they offered me an incentive for the inconvenience. We stayed in building 6 which was farthest from the action and was nice and quiet. Wonderful week

Mar 22nd, 2020

We spent 1 weeks at RIU palace at tropical bay. We never write reviews but this resort deserves our going the extra mile. We were checked in immediately upon arrival. We were tied and really needed a restful vacation. The lady who checked us in was kind and considerate. She put us in Unit 1 on the top (3rd) floor. Honestly, we never heard a single sound the whole stay. The first night we slept 11.5 hours. We didn’t have a great view but we got what we asked for—peace and quiet. There were two things that we wanted: a decent room and a great beach. Our room was indeed great. Like I said, not a great view but comfortable bed, lots of pillows, really nice walk-in shower and his/her sinks. The room was clean, spacious, and dry. No dampness at all. Turndown service at night was a nice touch. Water was always restocked daily. We didn’t use the minibar but it was well stocked. The beach was incredible and the BEST along that stretch of the bay. Sandy, safe beach. We don’t swim but we felt 100% safe at all times. There may have been a dozen rocks but we tossed them onto the adjacent resort! Lol. Were not fussy eaters so we were complete satisfied with the food. The al la Carter’s were excellent. Our favourite was Krystal. Aileen was a lovely server. She was calm and friendly. Made us feel very comfortable. We went there 2 evenings. The Japanese restaurant was very good as well. The Italian restaurant was nice but it had a self serve salad bar. The steakhouse was fine. A bit slow but who’s in a rush? We’d go back to this resort in a heartbeat. In fact, we plan to go back next February. I can’t think of anything that I could complain about and truly, anyone who would complain would be impossible to,please. We rate this hotel as excellent. Great value for our $. 10:out of 10 if you want a relaxing vacation, great beach, friendly staff, great rooms. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
