Great Location & Beautiful Hotel but Tiny & Odd Rooms

Nov 21st, 2019

The first time we came to Santa Fe, my husband and I stayed at the La Fonda Hotel, which was very nice. No real complaints there. But we stumbled upon this hotel as friends had recommended the hotel bar, Bar Secreto. We were very impressed with the gorgeous and comfortable lobby and now Bar Secreto is one of our go-to spots for a drink or a snack! So the next time we came, we decided to stay here, especially since it was quite a bit cheaper than many of the other hotels in the area. The location is great, walking distance to pretty much everything. It's a historic hotel that has been renovated and I love the history displayed inside as well. The Gruet Tasting room is also a fun addition and we really enjoyed doing a wine tasting on their patio! The staff is lovely as well. The only drawback is the rooms or at least the room we stayed in. We got a room on the second floor and it was tiny. We can deal with a small room, especially for the price, but the size wasn't the only issue. The bathroom sink was in the bedroom itself, so anytime we wanted to wash our hands or brush our teeth, etc. we had to do it over carpet right up against the bed. If anyone was using the sink, there was absolutely no space to get by. The bathroom door was also next to the bed and was very cramped - only one person can fit in there at a time and it still felt tight. Let's just say, you better be very comfortable with whoever you are sharing a room. This is an older hotel and it's understandable there is a limited amount of space to work with but the lack of privacy where the bathroom was concerned and the sink in the bedroom was a little much. And we could hear everything that was going on outside our room as well - just people walking by and making regular conversation. This didn't bother us too much but I could see it being an issue for others. For the price, it's still a good hotel with lots to offer - a great place to hang out, have drinks, etc. but I don't know if we would choose to stay here again. It may depend on the price difference next time we are planning a trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Gorgeous Lobby and Common Spaces, wonderful staff, so so room

Nov 19th, 2019

The good things about this hotel are stand outs - the staff is absolutely wonderful, cheerful, helpful and nice. The lobby could not be better, so welcoming with a roaring fire on a cold night. The Gruet tasting room is fun and the Secreto Bar cozy and charming. It's a lovely renovation of an old hotel. Sadly, our room (2nd floor) was a great disappointment, small, cramped, oddly shaped and very noisy - you could hear the shower going in the room next door, type noisy. The noise from the hallway was awfully loud as well. Not from people being loud, just people walking normally. The heating system was incomprehensible, literally it had no numbers on it, so you had to guess what temperature you were setting it for. (pix attached) The bathroom was so tiny it was hard to close the door. We'd probably stay there again, because the rest of the place was so wonderful, but I wouldn't accept that cramped room at a luxury hotel price again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location but rooms really dated

Nov 5th, 2019

For the price, not a good value. The hotel is centrally located and has a lovely lobby and staff. However, its an old building, and the rooms are quite small. Inadequate electrical outlets and a very small bathroom. Though nostalgia for a bygone period is nice, better to have enough electricity to use a blow dryer and a computer. And its nice to have room to turn around in the bathroom. Staff couldn't be nicer; dining good, location excellent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location; clean and simple.

Nov 3rd, 2019

The Hotel St. Francis is a simple hotel with clean and comfortable furnishings. Nothing extravagant yet very comfortable. Windows seemed to be old/original, thus lots of noise and temperature leakage. No coffee in the rooms. Odd bathroom set-up with washbasin in main bedroom and a step-up to get to the toilet/shower room. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Most friendly staff ever - old hotel refurbished with modern comfort, but keeping original class - best location, fun bar and excellent restaurant. Wish er could have stayed longer. We will definitively stay at the St Francis on our next trip Much more to discover. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
