Terrible service

Hotel is fine but service terrible. Got an email to say we could check in at 3pm. Arrived at 2pm and room not ready which was totally fine but they said they would call when ready. 5pm and no call. Leave voicemail. No call back. Call again. No room ready. Call 5.50pm and no room ready. Go back to hotel at 6.10pm and wait in line. The girl in front came down to complain her room was too small and she gets upgraded straight away yet we were not checked in and never received a call. Absolute debacle and I will call out specifically Jackson who gave the room away. This is all a week before the season. Don't know how they will handle that. Also they closed the bar to guests. Nice TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great ambiance in Newport

Best place to stay in Newport. Great location and fun spot just to hang out on the roof deck or lounge. Bikes to poke around town. Rooms are small and not inexpensive but worth it. Parking can be an issue during busy season. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing spa experience, Awful hotel experience

Check in was scheduled for 4PM. We arrived shortly after 5PM and were told the room was still not ready. The gentleman at the front desk double checked this and spoke to the housekeeper over the radio. He confirmed the room was still being serviced/prepared. He asked if he could get us drinks from the bar, but was not entirely clear whether it was courtesy of the hotel or not. We proceeded to ask how long the wait would be, he said 15-20 minutes at most and decided to take him up on the drink offer. He provided a coupon for 2 free drinks from the bar, complimentary of the hotel which was greatly appreciated. We sat in front of the desk, enjoying our drinks and waiting patiently. After about 40 minutes, he still had not checked in with us or given any type of update. We finally got up and asked the status of the room again and he radioed the housekeeper. After another 5 minutes or so, he let us know the room was all set, gave us the room keys and sent us up to the room. The lack of communication from the front desk is what truly bothered us. He seemed to either forget about us or wanted to avoid us which is not the best way to deal with a customer issue, especially when they're sitting right in front of you. On top of the initial check in scenario, we finally got up to our room and were able to sit down to relax. Within 5 minutes, we heard keys at the door and a woman came into the room without knocking or announcing herself. She seemed surprised to see us and asked, "Who inspected this room?" We, of course, had no idea who inspected the room, but let her know she was free to inspect it herself as she was already in the room. The situation was very bizarre, as it seemed out of the ordinary and left us slightly uncomfortable that someone from the hotel would just let themselves into the room out of nowhere with no knock or anything. The next morning, we put our do not disturb sign up as we went for a morning spa treatment and breakfast afterwards. We took the sign down around 10:30AM and spent the rest of the day out of the room. When we did come back to the room throughout the day, we noticed the housekeeping staff in our hallway. By the end of the day around 5PM, our room had still not been serviced. Housekeeping was still in the hallway, which seemed bizarre that they had been in the same hallway for the entire day but had not had time to service our room. As it is off-season and there didn't seem to be an abundance of guests on our floor, we were confused as to why our room had not been taken care of all day. We called the front desk to question this and requested someone come to service the room at 7 when we were leaving again. Not 10 minutes after receiving confirmation for this, someone from housekeeping knocked on the door and came in. We requested she simply service just the living room side of the suite, as we had several dirty glasses and some trash we wanted taken out. She took the trash out of the bathroom, changed the hand towel and left. It was even more frustrating upon returning at the end of the night and the room had still not been serviced at all, the dirty glasses were still there and nothing else had been touched. An additional negative of the hotel was the lack of slip resistant mat or anything in the bottom of the shower/tub. Upon getting into the shower after my friend, the bottom of the tub was extremely slippery. My foot gave out on me and my leg proceeded to slam into the side of the tub. My souvenir from the hotel is a large purple bruise on the inside of my leg. It's understandable that these are accidents that can happen to anyone, but I think the hotel needs to take precautions from this happening. We did let Bailey know about this, who stated she had been pushing to get this taken care of as they have a lot of older guests who stay at the hotel, but it's pretty clear it doesn't matter how old you are - if the tub is slippery, anyone can slip and fall and hurt themselves. As it turns out, I also sprained a ligament in my ankle and have been getting treatments on it since the hotel stay. On a more positive note, the Spa at the hotel truly wow-ed us. We were lucky enough to be there for a few different treatments and the entire experience was truly a pleasure. Rebecca provided our spa pedicures and was an absolute doll. The pedicure was one of the best I had ever received and Rebecca was so personable and pleasant throughout the treatment. The rest of the spa staff were also extremely professional and provided some of the best, most enjoyable treatments I've had at a spa. We especially appreciated that Melissa customized the spa facials for each of us, as my friend I went with had some slight redness in her cheeks she was worried about irritating. Steve at the bar in the lobby was another absolute pleasure. He was extremely friendly and accommodating upon our initially disappointing arrival. His sense of humor, attitude and absolutely delicious drinks helped to turn our moods around right away. We verbally stated all of these complaints to the front desk upon leaving but also submitted the feedback in a survey received just shortly after our stay in March 2019. We have yet to hear back from the Hotel regarding any of it. While they did take some money off our bill, it didn't make up for all the negative things we experienced while we were there. It's clear once you leave they don't care about what happened, no matter how poor the experience may have been. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Customer Service issues

We booked this hotel because we were attending a family wedding. We were expecting great things, as this hotel was recommended by a friend who has stayed here Many times during his visits to Newport. We were sadly very disappointed by the service we received. It was quite busy being a holiday weekend (Mother's Day), but we called twice before departing for the wedding because the air conditioning was not working in our room (it was upwards of 75 degrees in the room and outside). Before we left, maintenance came and looked at the unit in our room and told us it would be "re-set". When we arrived back at the hotel several hours later, it was 73 degrees in the room and the AC was still not working. The solution we received was....a box fan. That's it. Did not offer to move us to another room, did not seem to care about the inconvenience to us. My fiancee did not sleep well, because we both sleep hot, and were sweating our butts off the entire night! The next morning he complained, and instead of offering to refund us or provide us with another reasonable solution, they took off the resort fee and valet parking fees. Needless to say, we will be mentioning this service to friends and will Not be staying here again when we come back in November! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Birthday Trip

The location is fantastic. You can walk to everything if it’s nice weather. Valet service was fast and convenient. The only issue both rooms had were the creaking noises from the floor above us. We stayed on the ground floor and when the guests above us walked or dropped things on the floor we could clearly hear it. This also occurred while we were trying to sleep so it was annoying. Otherwise we enjoyed the pool and Saturday night s’mores. The music on Saturday night in the lobby was wonderful. The staff also messaged me prior to check in and during check I’m to check if there is any special requests. I wanted chocolate covered strawberries which they provided with a card as I requested. I enjoyed the service of receiving communication from the hotel before and during the trip. It seemed they had forgotten the chocolate covered strawberries for my mom but I was able to message them directly without having to hold to speak with someone. They took care of it quickly. Additionally I was traveling with family and we wanted to be close together so they accommodated our requests for rooms close to each other. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
