Poorly Managed Property

I could write a novel about the poor experience we had at this property but will try to summarize a few key issues. Will say this is probably the worst combined hotel experience I can recall and I spend about 100 nights a year in hotels. Bell staff ignored us on arrival, front desk staff appeared overwhelmed and understaffed at our check in, housekeeping was inconsistent at best, room was left without towels, washcloths and hand towels daily - complaints to the managers on duty were met with blank stares. Took multiple requests over 9 hours to get towels on our second day. Guest “services” phone line not answered on 40% of our calls. Room service menu both print and on line are out of date - featured entrees not available. Issues with room temperature. Many in our group of 150 or so noted similar experiences. Only bright spot was good service at the rooftop bar and the lobby market. Sad to see such an important piece of Newport history so poorly managed. Won’t get a second chance from us. Food experience at roof top bar

Hotel Viking has always been a special place for my husband and I, as we were married there on 12/31/2013. With that being said we finally had a date day and decided to head to the roof top bar. We ordered two margaritas which were delicious followed by the charcuterie board. We waited over an hour for our board and it was not busy and asked the bartender who indicated he would check. When he came out with the board he indicated “they usually bring it to me, but I guess not today” The meats were warm and looked to the equivalent of a deli meat. The olives were literally from the large olive jar which we could see in the service bar fridge in front of us. We did tell the bartender the board was un acceptable and he simply took a picture and said he would inform the chef which is apparently new. This is not the standard of food and or service we expect from the Viking and are extremely disappointed with the entire experience. Disgusted is an understatement! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great hotel

Great hotel with a wonderful location, just a half mile walk down to the wharf. The hotel having special features every night was fun, especially the s'mores! The rooftop bar is not to be missed either for beautiful views and great cocktails. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not going back

I have been visiting the Viking Hotel for years and utilizing the services at the spa. After this years visit, I will be finding another hotel to stay at when I visit Newport. Even a request for a robe (which they advertise as ‘available upon request’) was too much to ask for. Front desk staff was unaccommodating from check in to check out and the experience left me extremely disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Service

Stayed in a King room for 2 nights. The hotel and grounds were well maintained. Gorgeous view from the rooftop lounge. All of the staff were excellent. Roy the concierge was fantastic and a great help to us. I would recommend this hotel and will be returning in the future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
