Great location

Mar 2nd, 2020

Stayed here this past weekend and it was more than expected. First going into New Orleans if you’ve never been you have to understand the history, and the architecture there. It’s not going to be a comfort inn. The hotel villa Convento was beautiful in its design and architecture. We opted for a king balcony suite which was cute but, there wasn’t as much room as expected on the balcony so we didn’t use much. Having a balcony room also is ungodly noisy every morning we were woken up by trash trucks or street cleaners. That being said i would opt out of a balcony room if we stay again. The room itself was very clean (or as clean as you can get in New Orleans) and the bed was so comfy! The location is seriously perfect just a short walk to almost anything you’d want to see, do, or experience in New Orleans. Would stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Perfect place to stay in the French Quarter

Jan 22nd, 2020

My boyfriend and I stayed here on our recent trip to the French Quarter, and I would recommend this place to everyone! The room was clean, the balcony was amazing, and it was in the perfect location to walk to Bourbon Street, Frenchman Street, the French Market and Jackson Square. The hotel staff was great and they allowed us to keep our luggage in a secure closet when our flight arrived before check-in. This is not a Best Western or Holiday Inn in terms of updated features, but it has perfect New Orleans charm and anything you would need! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A wonderfully preserved piece of a bygone era.

This hotel has an amazing history. The owners have chosen to leave the feel of the early 1800's while providing necessary modern amenities. The furnishings are period, but with flat screen tv's and indoor plumbing of course. Our room, 400, had two balconys, a parlor, bedroom and bathroom with a real clawfoot tub. The Legend is that this is the authentic House of the Rising Sun and you can almost see the gamblers and ladies of the night pursuing their craft. The scent of the very walls weaves it's spell. There is even ghostly Madame that may visit you in the night. She is harmless but still watches over "her girls". The smells and sounds of the French Quarter blend in perfectly with your surroundings. The staff is attentive without hovering and are delighted to tell tales and give suggestions on what can not be missed on your adventure. There is authentic French Cafe directly across the street that makes incredible pasteries and well as pizza restaurants that will deliver right to your rooms if you decide to just relish your surrounding instead of venturing out. Now here is why I couldn't give it a perfect 5. Parking is a challenge. They do have limited garage parking but don't count on a spot. We found street parking without too much frustration. It is the French Quarter after all. Second: The hotel is not handicap accessible. This is totally out of the owners control unless they did a major revamp which would destroy the ambiance. Now that being said, I use a cane and had minor issues like steep steps in the entrance and to reach our rooms. However, there is an elevator which is an experience in it's own right. (It actually makes moaning sounds and is small and slow). If you want a true French Quarter experience, this hotel totally fits the bill. If you are more the traveler who enjoys a Hampton Inn or Hyatt it will not be your cup of tea. This is building is 190 years old doesn't pretend to be what it is not. Personally I was charmed and delighted by my stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Booked through Although I selected for the option “pay at hotel” they attempted to charge me for over $250. My card didn’t accept the payment and so the hotel canceled my reservation and IMMEDIATELY booked it for someone else. I would never recommend this hotel. Horrible customer service, never even received a phone call to try and change payment. We had to pay 2x the amount booking another hotel last minute for our anniversary. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stay somewhere else

We have to disagree with all the positive reviews. With so many hotel choices in New Orleans why stay here. The towels were thin and often stained. The toilet tissue was the cheapest imaginable. The bed is so soft it's reminiscent of sleeping on an air mattress with the air leaking. There was debris from crumbling plaster on the floor outside our door that remained all weekend. The bathtub had stains that made taking a shower an unpleasant experience. The two positive things are friendly staff and an authentic French cafe right across the street. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
