Be Careful of Stealth Charges
Nov 10th, 2020
We stayed at the hotel because it was close to a 5k run. The room was dated but otherwise a clean, no-frills accommodation. It is a pure budget experience. A few days after the stay, I reviewed my credit card statement and saw an additional charge of $40 logged on the checkout date. I contacted the hotel and was told it was a pet fee. Since we did not have a pet with us, I advised the clerk that was a fraudulent charge. After being placed on hold, the clerk returned and told me the charge would not be refunded as there was evidence of a pet in the room. I asked for what that evidence was and received a non-response. This charge was not on our statement at checkout, and the hotel never contacted us to issue us to notify us of the charge nor issued a revised statement, either by mail or email. I believe they intended to supplement their budget room rate with this fee, counting on us not noticing the charge on our credit card statement. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Hotel of my nightmares

We are very unhappy with our entire stay at this location. We are loyal Best Western guests but we decided to give this brand a try. Believe me, we won't make that mistake again! We arrived to this location in the early evening. We were greeted by an unfriendly agent who wasn't wearing a mask, and stayed seated for the duration of our brief interaction. He asked for my credit card and identification. Handed me the registration card and gave me my keys. We got into our room and immediately noticed the dank smoky smell. There were flies and mosquitoes in the room. The furniture was dated and beat up. The surfaces did not look clean or even wiped off for that matter. When we called the front desk to ask to change to a non smoking room he simply stated, "You booked a smoking room and we are sold out." He didn't offer any empathy or other arrangements. When we entered the bathroom to shower, we were greeted by stained towels more bugs and a disgusting shower to include an unfinished repair to the floor of the shower. The shower head was so encrusted with calcium that it barely sprayed water. The facuet dripped all night. The bathroom sink was full of bugs and the ice bucket and tray were filthy and stained. Our son moved the bed to plug in his phone and discovered dirt, bugs, cockroach feces, a wet spill of some sort and what appeared to be used drug paraphernalia. The air conditioning system seemed to not cool below 74 degrees. The TV remote was dirty and taped together. The fridge was barely cold and in disrepair. We could hear our neighbors all night. This was by far the worst hotel experience we have EVER had. We will NEVER try another Howard Johnson again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
The worst hotel I ever stayed in
Aug 12th, 2020
I dont think this hotel deserves a rating because it was a very poorly managed motel. I was charged for towels that I didnt take after I had to go ask for towels in my room when there were clearly 2 people staying in the room. I would not recommend this hotel for stray dogs to sleep in. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We originally booked our stay because we were going on a cruise the next day. Because of COVID19 our cruise got canceled. But, we are glad we went ahead and visited Galveston! This motel was affordable and a nice place to stay before we continued our journey to South Padre Island. We will remember this motel when we are traveling in the area! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice but noisy

The staff was great, the room was clean and breakfast was typical. You could fell springs through the mattress and the room was very noisy. The heater/AC unit in our room was very loud which may not be typical, however trains came through several times with whistle blowing until 130 in the morning and there was a 18 wheeler truck depot next door which generated a lot of noise as well TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
