I stayed at this location for my planned visit to see Mt. Rushmore. I interacted with both Bailee and Tyler. These two individuals were authentic, kind, and truly here to help me, the customer. The location is clean, well cared for and has very large, comfortable rooms. I recommend this hotel to you, the inquirer, and to all and any of my family members and friends who plan to head this way in the future. Thank you Tyler and Bailee for your extreme hospitality and care. Cheers to what the future holds. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Friendly and clean place
Nov 8th, 2020
The place was clean ... they folded all Covid 19 restrictions... our room had a Whirpool tub in the room which made it a person clean area for just us... But they did have a nice pool arena with plenty of space and two hot tubs. Breakfast was limited due to Covid 19... we spent 4 days here and very happy with the accommodations. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Clean & Caring Staff
Oct 23rd, 2020
The hotel is clean and has enough parking. This is located in the heart of Rapid city mins to Mt. Rushmore, Custer Black Hills Forest. On Oct. 22 it snowed heavily and I was worried as I have never driven in the snow. As I checked out the Front Desk Clerk Tyler informed me about the road condition. He told me the safest route and went to the point of marking my way towards the airport on a map. In case internet doesn't work or lost satellite. He advised me not to use water squirting device for my front view, run my car slow & steady at 20mph , and follow Omaha St. All the way to the airport. I was so scared and nervous but all his advice were right as I made it through after 1 hr of driving slow. Tyler is the man, staff that makes a huge difference what we call hospitality. His attitude and great service is beyond what is expected and I am grateful and a happy client. I will be booking my future hotels with Howard Johnson because of his excellent gold standard, a happy service with a heart! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
A Covid-iot's Paradise!
Oct 21st, 2020
PROS - location - fridge in room - microwave in room - free, plentiful parking - comfortable bed - safe in room - free wifi - extra outlets on lamp bases - location felt safe - close to freeway CONS - management does not care about complaints - mask wear not enforced (both guests and front desk staff NOT wearing masks) - quiet hours not enforced - bad 1970s decor - thermostat does not seem to work properly - bio-hazard of a room not cleaned properly for a day in late 1995, let alone covid clean - someone's twistie & change in a drawer - used shower cap on floor next to fridge - gross dirt infused mat at bottom of tub - blood smear on tub just above someone's hair (right under the towel they put on the tub rim so you know someone had to have seen it) - weird dark colored substance smeared on the toilet bar - smoke alarm cleaned about the same time that the furniture was manufactured (back in 1972) encrusted with a thick layer of dust - 2 phones in room, neither worked - no do not disturb sign - no directory/local information Now I only require 4 things from an accommodation. It has to be clean, convenient, comfortable and safe. I don't really care about the decor and such so long as it meets those 4 criteria. HOWEVER, for those of you who do care about such things, the decor at this location was bad 1970s. No, I don't mean a chic or modern take on 1970s decor or a kitschy, cool nod to the 1970s. I mean a, look what we found in our dead grandmother's storage, that had been in her house since the 1970s, 1970s decor. This was also a handicapped King suite (and boy did I feel sorry for the poor disabled person who would have to use this room!). I entered the room late on the 1st night after being up since 2:30am that morning. I was beat. Unfortunately, there was a roving pack of wild children (like 7-11) running around the hotel unsupervised when I checked in on the 1st floor; and surprise, surprise, both them and their lazy, irresponsible parents were on my floor! At all hours of the night, the kids were running, screaming, opening and slamming doors and carrying on down the halls. When at last their Parents of the Year came out of their rooms, it was to themselves engage in rowdy loud behavior! Talk about apples not falling far from the tree! I try calling downstairs - only to learn not 1 but BOTH of the 2 phones in the room don't work. Tired and agitated, I pull up the phone number to the hotel and call....only to find out the phone number wasn't even to the hotel but a reservation line! The reservation line transfers me to the hotel and it quiets down not long after I ask the front desk to intervene. The next morning, before dawn, having discovered what a gem of a bathroom I ended up with - blood smear and hair on the side of the tub (clearly visible under where the housekeeper laid the towel), some weird dark smear of something near the toilet on the silver bar and dirt encrusted slip mat, I left a note for the manager with the maskless night clerk, asking that someone go in and clean the restroom while I was out for the day and explaining the issue. Coming back late that night, nothing had changed! I wouldn't even take an operation shower in that bathroom (wearing flip flops and being careful not to touch the sides). And yes, that night, the same rowdy behavior from the exact same guests! I call down to the front desk via the reservation line once more to get hung up on by the front desk staff after I was transferred! I call down again and about 30 minutes later, I hear someone asking the rowdy group if they can get them water or anything? Thank GOD I was only going to be there for a few hours more! If you enjoy playing chicken with your health, this is the hotel for you - a regular Covid-iot's paradise and future epicenter of a super spreader event! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
