For the price, we expected at least a quiet room. There was a loud noise in the room every so often (hour and a half?) sounded like it had something to do with the air conditioner because at first I thought it was the loud rush of the toilet upstairs and the only other thing that could deal with water and sound like an engine taking off would be the air conditioner (which was in the ceiling). The walls are not noise insulated so even a radio/TV at normal levels is clearly heard from the room next door (even a guest on his cell- and other reviews on here complain about being near the elevator- believe them because that thing is old and loud). Also must have had multiple people who knew each other on our floor- with the going back and fourth between room and doors slamming - don't expect to sleep in. The room's technology is cool and it was staged beautifully, but I'd rather flip an old fashion switch for some peace and quiet and be able to sleep in. One of 2 elevators was down - and there's a post on here from 2018 that talks about an elevator being down- 2018!!! We took the stairs when we were just going out- but used a crappy luggage caddy when it was time to leave and getting room in the elevator took half an hour (replace the carpet material on it and it would look half decent). Hotel's parking price is ridiculous ($50) but at least they'll let you leave your car for the day after check out. Staff is friendly but they could care less about following up when they asked my husband how his stay was and he said "meh". Our room was 616- no view but wasn't expecting one- it's a room to shower and sleep in. Santa Monica also has stricter covid guidelines than where we came from (San Diego) and their rooftop restaurant moved to the 2nd floor mezzanine. We had a cheaper hotel that was MUCH QUIETER at The Westin Gaslamp Quarter and wished we had stayed another night there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Lacks service and quality

Stayed during covid and the place was a mess. Only one elevator was working for the entire hotel!! The elevator fits only 4 people and there was always a line - staff didn’t help and there was no rush to fix other elevator. The rooftop venue was closed also and they don’t hold bags for you if needed. Lastly, they charged me for valet parking when I didn’t use it - check your bill - very dissatisfied with my stay. This hotel was exquisite! Very modern, upscale and CLEAN! Great partial ocean view, all staff exhibited highly professional services. Beds were really comfortable with high end linens. Bathrooms were clean, floors were clean, all around this was a above expectation experience and we have pretty high expectations! Quick walk to the beach, valet parking, you really couldn’t ask for more. Just beware ahead of time.... so your kids don’t walk in before you and crack open a $5 can of soda, the in room mini bar is not complimentary! :) Definitely would stay there again. Elevator not working don’t stay here be safe

We went over Labor Day wknd 2020 based on great (past) reviews and nice pics and descriptions online. Me, my husband, two kids ages 7 and 9. I will end review w some positives but here were the negatives: Covid pandemic ongoing so with that perspective, the shock was when we arrived was they only had one of two lobby elevators working and sign was up saying the other elevator closed for renovations. I had booked about two weeks prior and there was no email warning us. You can barely stretch both arms in the one working elevator it’s a small square with quedtionable (if any) circulation :/ If I was not looking through Covid lense, I would just be annoyed about waiting on an elevator (we were on 14th floor). The reason for my review is to warn all that it was the scariest part of our trip and was a dishonest move by Hibtldy Hotel. They had a line OUT THE DOOR crammed with people waiting to board elevator. Sign said no more than 4 people in at a time amd masks must be worn. The stoned college kids who kept getting on were not wearing masks. People were rightfully asking the front desk staff: why was there no email warning if this was not a malfunction but a planned renovation. Furthermore, you would think they would have a soothing measure such as (? passing out a cold water or drink or warm choc chip cookies 😆 while people stood for over 30 min trying to get to their room?!) Are you kidding me? It felt like a dishonest trap: lure people on a busy long weekend, not bothering to warn them an elevator renov going on, jam pack the hotel to make their money before the next shut down. Many other people were openly voicing their frustration while in line for elevator. We voiced this as well. They comp’d valet and food. It won’t chsnge life and limb risk to me amd loced ones if we end up sick from that elevator. Other negatives: 1. carpeted rooms kinda gross for beach town could feel sand bumps under carpet 2. older property in general 3. no pool 4. no pancakes (my kids :)) 5. they give towels for beach 6. trek to beach be ready to walk Positives: 1. Pretty interior lobby 2. clean bathroom 3. nice staff 4. good room service 5. fyi penthouse restaurant is now on 2nd floor to allow for open air dining and menu and drinks decent TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
