Concerns about Room but Staff was really Great

Sep 15th, 2020

We stayed at this hotel for the Labor Day weekend. Booked a King bed room. The first room that was provided was generally a clean room but we really had concerns with the bathroom. There was some stain on the toilet commode and the bathroom had mold growing along the edges close to the shower door. Since we had a toddler we really wanted to get another room. Elsa at the front desk was really helpful and provided options of 2-3 rooms for us to look at. The other rooms were nice and clean. Our stay remained generally comfortable. My only thought is with all the COVID situation I am sure the staff would be performing adequate cleaning but small misses tend to shake the confidence of the guest. I generally prefer Hyatt rooms over Hilton and Marriott. PS: Elsa also left us a personal note which was a nice touch. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Unbelievably Excellent

Sep 8th, 2020

We had interaction with Bailey, Kendra, Mia, Elsa, Jeff, Bernard, and head of housekeeping, all of which were exceptional! Despite how busy they were they each took the time to greet us upon entry each time and give us a heartfelt farewell when we left each day. They made excellent recommendations for food and attractions and the rooms were surprisingly clean (despite how busy they were) We were thoroughly impressed with the security team as well; very efficient and professional at all times. This added to our experience. We will certainly be back to stay here based on staff alone! I wouldn’t have expected such care, attention to detail, cleanliness and GREAT breakfast options, especially during this pandemic! Very pleased!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Christmas visit to Charleston

Aug 17th, 2020

Nice hotel - stayed here several nights for concerts at the North Charleston Coliseum. Convenient to the highway and several restaurants within walking distance. Very clean. I would stay here again if returning to North Charleston area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I visited this hotel for a work trip related to school and an internship with two other classmates. One of my classmates went downstairs to her car and forgot her ID and phone upstairs in the hotel room. The front desk associate asked my classmate for her ID to get back into the building in which my classmate stated all of her things were left upstairs. My classmate asked the associate to call up to the room for someone to bring the ID down for checkin. The associate refused to call upstairs for someone to bring my classmates ID to the front desk and left a vulnerable female locked outside of the hotel in sleepwear at 2:30 am. My classmate was afraid of the environment left outside without a phone and dressed for bed so she went to back to the door, in which the associate was not near, and knocked on the door to ask what should she do. The associate ignored her then called me in the hotel room and stated "you need to leave the hotel, your guest is disruptive and the police are on the way." I ran downstairs. She refused to explain to me what my classmate had done and kept repeating "the police are on their way." A story was fabricated on us how my classmate was destroying property when truthfully she knocked on the door trying to gain the attention of the associate who was now behind the desk. The associates fabricated story caused to the police to be highly aggressive. The police escorted us to the room and only gave us 5 minutes to pack and leave the premises. We were called N- on the way out of the door. We were put into the streets at 3 am in the morning AFTER they had taken my cash with no refund. They did not release the money for us to get into another hotel. I have spoke with corporate on this discrimination matter and they stated "THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO." I have NOT RECEIVED MY REFUND in which corporate said they would release after 48 hours and when I call the phone disconnects immediately after stating my name. I also spoke with the manager Jeremy, he also stated there was nothing that could be done. When trying to explain to Jeremy that his associate called us N-, I was cut off in my sentence soon as I said discrimination. Now imagine a white business man, or a middle aged white woman, or a young white female being locked out a hotel they PAID for simply because they left their purse/wallet back in the room. Pros and Cons

Jun 26th, 2020

We stayed at the Hyatt Place North Charleston while in town for a gymnastics meet in late February of 2020. There were several pros and cons to this property. The positives: It is in a great location to the airport and convention center, and about 20 minutes from the ocean and the historic area of downtown Charleston. You can get to the airport via a back road, which is helpful with the heavy traffic issues on the interstate. The staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful, and the free hot breakfast was very good. Now, for the cons. While it was close to the aiport, the area was not great. It was a little run down and very busy. There are no restaurants other than Cracker Barrel that are walking distance from the hotel, and most restaurants are a good 5-10 minutes away in busy traffic. More importantly, while the front desk staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good, the hotel, overall, was not that clean. Our room had a few cleanliness issues upon our arrival, which unfortunately was after midnight. I notified the front desk first thing in the morning and the issues were resolved. However, throughout our 4 day stay, our room was cleaned only twice. And when it was cleaned, our breakfast plates - which were stacked very obviously and clearly - were still in the room when we returned for the evening. The pool also did not appear to be cleaned over the course of our stay, and the shelf was consistently empty of pool towels. We would not stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
