Declining fast

This hotel was really nice at one time but our recent makes me never want to return. The elevators and room REEKED of weed. The bed linens were soiled with a stain that looked like bodily fluids which indicates they are not cleaning and sanitizing ALL bed linens between guests. When requesting fresh linens, there was no apology...I was told by the guy at the front that there was nothing he could do- housekeeping wouldn't be in until the next morning. He is an awful service rep and should not be customer facing. The floors in the room were sticky and gross. The bathroom was not cleaned properly. The pillow covers on the sofa were ripped. I will never return here until a complete and total overhaul is done. I will be taking my hard earned money elsewhere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Would have been a 5, but...

This is a trendy small boutique hotel close to Michigan Avenue and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. We were there for two nights, one of which was my birthday. They have a nice Sky Deck bar on the 16th floor and we had a great evening there with our kids and a few friends. I would give them a 5, except the walls are so thin and there was a party going on next door. It wasn't just the noise, but the smoke (medicinal or recreational, you decide) that was wafting into our room. The front desk asked them to quiet down, and they eventually did, but the smoke persisted throughout our stay. Only other complaint was that the bathroom floor looked like it had been mopped with dirty water. On the plus side, our suite was huge and the A/C worked and the rain shower was awesome. On the Decline

I’ve been staying at the Ivy Hotel for both business and pleasure since 2014. My family and I lodge at this hotel exclusively when we visit Chicago each year but I will be looking for a new hotel in Chicago as a result of my most recent visit. I’ll preface by saying that the physical accommodations and cleanliness of the room and grounds were nice. My issue is with the deplorable customer service my guests and I received during our stay. We were told upon Check-in that there would be no housekeeping due to covid. It was also indicated that there were other amenities that couldn’t be provided for this reason, such as extra towels. I only learned about this as I was checking-in but this information would’ve been useful to know prior to booking. Okay, whatever, fine. After our first night, we leave our room for the day and come back a few hours later to notice our room had been cleaned. Odd, as they said there would be no housekeeping but a pleasant surprise nonetheless. About an hour later while dressing for dinner, my friend notices some of her jewelry missing. We look all over, can’t find it in the room. My friend goes to the front desk to report this and was told no one entered the room. Untrue, since someone had come to clean up. We were late for a reservation so we left but my friend is told that if she calls the police to come, they can review the tape. Cool. Upon returning from dinner, there is a different attendant at the desk. We walk up to tell him about the situation so that we can try and get it resolved with the police. We were inquisitive in our demeanor, but not aggressive and this guy proceeds to yell at us to step back due to covid. Well, being at the desk was not a health concern until we started asking questions about the possibility of a staff person entering our room without our knowledge. We step back, try to explain and he continues to yell, tell us we’re wrong or don’t have our facts straight and humiliate us right in the lobby. At that point, we call the police because we’re getting nowhere with this guy and the fact that he’s yelling at his patron’s just made a bad situation worse. As we’re waiting for the police, we notice other guests crowding the front desk and he says nothing to them after literally just yelling at us to back away from the desk. Police come, we file a report but the guy at the front desk tells the police that they can’t view the tape with him. It would have to be with the GM the next morning. Next morning, we talk to Onya who is a supervisor. She’s actually listening to our story and trying to help. Onya was the only saving grace in this terrible situation. She tells us we’ll need to have the police come again to view the tapes, which contradicted what the rude night front desk attendant told us the night before. Onya also brings down the housekeeper who cleaned our room so we could see if they had seen the jewelry or thrown it away mistakenly. Police arrive and as they are reviewing the footage with my friend, the housekeeper magically produces the jewelry that was allegedly found in the trash. It was in the same plastic bag that my friend had it in but somehow wasn’t dirty or anything after being in yesterday’s trash. The jewelry was also found rather quickly for being thrown away the day before. Go figure. This and the fact that there was constant partying in the hotel all weekend are reasons I would NEVER return to the Ivy despite being a long-time guest. I used to recommend this hotel all the time but in good conscience, I can no longer do that. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great stay

I had the best experience I have ever had with Onyinye. Great Customer service and very nice I truly appericate EVERYTHING you have done for me 😊 It is very hard to find such nice & guenine people now a days and I am blessed to walk pass Onyinye. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the exceptional customer service. I will defiantly be booking The Ivy Hotel again because of you Onyinye. GOD Bless you and every step you walk in life😘 TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

What changed?

Being a guest for the past 2 years it’s crazy to see how the staff changed from being so friendly and welcoming to barely even saying “sup” after saying good morning. Shower doors and bathroom floors were not cleaned, visibly dirty. And when I asked for 2 extra body towels I was told I had to wait til the following morning because they didn’t have any.. I mean I understand things slip through the crack but that was sad and concerning because the ivy is one of my favorite hotels hands down. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
