Nov. trip compared to Jan. trips

Nov 17th, 2019

This is a great place to stay, third time for me, however the dinner buffet is different compared to going in the winter time. During past winter vacations there was always many types of meat to choose from and always a main roast of some sort, example roast of beef, turkey, ham etc.. During this vacation they didn't really have this. I'm not saying any of the food was bad, because it was delicious, just not as much of a variety. Could of been just not as many people at this time. They did not have any drinks that are made with a blender this time. The hotel is very clean and service is wonderful. We were disappointed that they did allow three young men to strut around in their underwear. They walked around with their music really loud and needless to say very drunk for three days. They also let two of them in for dinner, one without a shirt to eat. They did have him cover his shoulders with a towel. The one that was facing us ate with his mouth open and kept nodding off. Not enjoyable at all and many people were appalled with their behavior around the resort. Families with children do not want to see this. Will I go back, definitely because I know it's a great place to stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Should be a 5 star!!!

Nov 14th, 2019

We just had an amazing trip at Iberostar Costa Dorada. We were a group of 8. 2 in their 60’s 4 in our 30’s a 6 year old and a 15 month old. We arrived late October and travelled through air Transat from Canada. We arrived around noon and were a little shocked to be told that check in wasn’t until 3pm, but they held our luggage and fitted us with our wrist bands so we could have drinks and have lunch. Jose was an amazing host. He took care of us all week. He immediately identified himself and took us to the lunch buffet, helping to get us a table all together, water and a high chair for my little one. He told us he would find us when our room was ready if we weren’t back in the lobby. We changed into our flip flops and had a delicious lunch with amazing drinks. Once we got our rooms they were perfect. Updated and very clean. We had ocean view rooms and had requested rooms together. My parents were right next to us which was perfect. We had requested adjoining rooms, but when we inquired they told us it was an extra $30 a night for that! We decided that was crazy and unnecessary so we opted out. We got into our bathing suits and enjoyed the pool right away! The food all week was amazing. Roberto (in the main buffet restaurant) was so helpful. Every meal he had a table ready for us with the high chair set up. After only a few days he knew who sat where and what wine we drank! He also had our coffee order ready as soon as we walked in! Make sure to ask for coffees from the special machine as it’s sooo yummy. Way better than the regular drip coffee. Find Roberto, trust me! Each night at the buffet was different. And it was all great. They had some themed nights Mexican, seafood etc, and then always had the staples. Fresh pasta bar, salads, fruits. Every night they had some fresh cooked meat on the grills! Breakfast was also amazing. Fresh eggs and omelettes, fresh juice and all the fixings. Even the breakfast food had different options. You could eat something different every time! The lunch buffet wasn’t as great but still good. Lots of typically lunch foods, hamburgers and hotdogs, nachos and salads etc. Again always different stuff but not as much selection. However on some of the days they had beach parties at lunch time. Delicious food (small selection of really yummy stuff) a special drink and live music. It was so much fun. One day was a great seafood dish and another was chicken and sausages with all the sides. The lunch buffet had a serve yourself soft serve icecream bar which was a huge hit with all the kids and grownups! The a la carts were fabulous. We were able to book all three Jose helped us get the times we wanted! The Japanese was my favourite. It was Hibachi style with our own chef. My daughter also has severe allergies to egg and peanuts. The hotel was amazing with this. They had cards printed in Spanish that listed her allergies. And each meal I took a card to the chef who walked around and told me what was safe. We felt so safe! The pool was beautiful and clean and the swim up bar served all the amazing drinks. There were plenty of spots to sit. The umbrellas were made of palm tree leaves that were dried and we did find that we got eaten by mosquitos and small bugs when we sat under them! Bring bug spray. Didn’t ruin our holiday in the slightest. The staff were always walking around cleaning up cups and other dishes. The entertainment staff was amazing. Huge shout out to Pepsi and Wifi. They really went out of our way to make sure we all had a good time! They had the perfect amount of push to get us involved but if you didn’t want to they didn’t bug you! So many different activities happening all week archery, air gun, water aerobics, bingo, soccer games, basketball games, drinking contest, pool games, etc etc. They also give awards when you win! The nightly entertainment was fun too. Before the show there was always something different. A band playing, singers, DJ with a light up stage etc. Always something fun! The kids club was the best. My 6 year old fell in love with Lily. She was so great with the kids. The kids club is open 10-12 and 3-5. They have a little pool, playground and indoor area with tv, games colouring etc. My son was sad when it wasn’t open! Lily also had the kids do things in the evenings. Mini kids shows for them, kids disco time, and other activities. On the Saturday night she had them do a show for us! They all had costumes and parts. It was super cute. The grounds are amazing. Stunningly beautiful. Very well kept. At night time they are lit up beautifully. Lights shining up the trees. Really gorgeous. There are wild animals around peacocks, flamingos, and cats. There are a few shops on site and their prices were really good. They sell blow up toys for the kids for the pool which was a huge hit. Locals have the chance to come to the resort on the weekend (we happened to go over one of their long weekends). The resort was quite busy, but They were wonderful happy people, and looked like they had an amazing time! All the staff was wonderful and wanted to help with anything you needed! I can’t say enough wonderful things about this resort. We can’t wait to go back one day! Lots of people there were repeat customers which shows how awesome this place really is. The price was also perfect too. Such a gem of a place! You will not be disappointed in this fantastic (should be) 5 star resort! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Absolutely trash

Nov 12th, 2019

Will never recommend... any Iberostar Waste of money...... We were introduced to this resort by friends who decided to have their wedding here. This resort was trash. And when I say that I don’t mean the location. This was mine and my husbands first time staying at a resort that had wristbands and where you had to make reservations for all the dinners. So we had upgraded to the star prestige package as we read we would have priority for dinner, an upgraded room with better amenities and a private area on the beach. When we arrived there was construction right next door to our room that was loud. We hummed and hawed about asking to move as we have NEVER made a complaint about anything. So the next morning we decided to ask to move, they accommodated us. Which was great but to a lesser room. I was very annoyed with that as I had paid extra. The lighting in the rooms were very dim, the tub/shower was extremely warn and stained. The wifi was next to nonexistent in our room. There was also no drink service at the pool and you were given a towel key?? That is one towel per key card and one key card per person. (This seems to be a Puerto Plata, Dominican thing). The food was just okay in the 3 a la carte restaurants and the wait staff was not attentive, the buffet food was way better and the service there was great too. The customer service at the front desk was terrible. I had an extremely hard time trying to get change. They would roll their eyes or tell me no( not sorry we don’t have any) At one point I said that’s fine if you don’t want to change the $20 I don’t have to tip the staff. They ended up pulling out more than enough money. There were only a few people who are amazing. These are the few shining stars Naomi -star prestige. Very friendly Fermin - concierge. Accommodated us best as he saw fit when we asked to move rooms (had the tv changed out without us asking) Tony - Waiter at the mediterranean restaurant. He was the only one who seemed to actually love his job. His service was absolutely outstanding. Joel - our breakfast buffet waiter. Remember us every morning and greeted us with a smile. He was outstanding as well Antonio - dinner buffet. Very friendly and attentive. Juan - server at the prestige beach. Very friendly We understand that this was literally the lowest level of an iberostar but have been to a different low level resort and the service and amenities there far exceeded this place. Hard to see how this place is rated as 4.5 on trip advisor TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
