Old, outdated and disappointing.

Oct 24th, 2020

We were lucky enough to get one of the SA Great State travel vouchers, and chose to use it at the intercontinental. I really regret this decision. We often stay a night in the city, and can confidently say there are a LOT of cheaper motels that are at a much, much higher standard than the Intercontinental. When we walked into our room, I was honestly confused. It was a tiny room that has not been upgraded at all since it was built. It felt like I was in a old, unkept, super cheap motel. Other than the disappointing size and style, there’s no main light in the room or bathroom. There was a small light over the doorway, a lamp either side of the bed and a couple small yellow lights in the bathroom. Nothing to really light the room up, and certainly not enough light in the bathroom for a female to get ready to go out. The next issue we had was the lack of air conditioner. Our room was quite warm. There was a very, very old ‘fan’. It only worked on Medium (low and high both had zero air output). I’m very glad it was a mild night, any warmer would not have been bearable. Finally - the room itself needed a lot of maintenance. The carpet was old and very stained, the bed was obviously old and very hard, and there was lots of chips and cracks in the rooms paint. It felt uncomfortable to even look in the cupboards/wardrobe because it felt like going through an old mans house. The super thick layer of paint - the only thing maintenance done since the place was built - really didn’t improve the look of the room. It was not welcoming at all. Also, the outdated layout and design means that you can hear every time another room uses water - the plumbing was very loud. On top of all of this, the shower was cold. Even with full ‘hot’ water turned on only, there was definitely nothing hot about it. It was in no way a 5 star room. It wasn’t even 4 star. It certainly was not worth the money charged for that room. I regret spending our money there. We could - and often do - get a much, much nicer and more comfortable room, for a much better price. It may have been a fabulous room in the 80s, but it’s really time for some maintenance and upkeep. However, I do need to admit that every staff member we encountered was amazing and their service was flawless. We also had some drinks and breakfast in the restaurants which we really enjoyed. We’d come back for a meal or drink, but certainly would not pay for a room. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Incredible service, lovely food and great location

Oct 19th, 2020

My wife and I stayed at the InterContinental Adelaide for 4 nights during our visit to Adelaide for our honeymoon. Upon arrival, the staff at the front desk were lovely and welcoming and we were thrilled with our room overlooking the river. A bottle of sparkling wine was delivered to our room shortly after check in, along with a thoughtful letter from Mardi Tucker congratulating us on our marriage, which was such a lovely surprise! During our stay we used the InterContinental Club Lounge, the Atrium Lounge and the Riverside Restaurant within the hotel, in each area the staff were courteous and attentive and the food and drink served were delicious. We also splurged and tried room service, we found the food was prepared quickly and brought up to our room very fresh, incredible service! Our room was lovely and clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable and the closet/ storage space was ample for our stay. The bathroom was quite large and the bath towels were lovely and soft. The location of the hotel on North Terrace was incredible, so close to the shopping district, the museum and art gallery as well as being a short walk to the Adelaide zoo. We were able to find many quality restaurants within a short walking distance from the hotel. Overall our stay at the hotel was amazing, we will definitely be back and look forward to our next stay. Nice hotel and Great service

Oct 19th, 2020

We booked this at the last minute, so very happy we could get a room with a river view. The lady at the front desk was able to book us into the Shiki restaurant last minute also, very accomodating and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, but due to covid there was no menu or mini-bar in the room, we had to phone to get this and they did not deliver the paper, which i would have loved in the morning. However, the breakfast was delicious and check out easy. Just a couple of minor things, the television remote did not operate very well, and we could do with some more water in the room. Overall, we had a great stay and hope to book again soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent service, food and location

Oct 13th, 2020

I have stayed at the Intercontinental Adelaide twice in the past 5 weeks for work. The first stay I had a room overlooking the city, the second stay I had a room overlooking the river. Both rooms were spacious and had enormous bathrooms complete with large shower and separate bathtub. The rooms are a little dated but the beds were both very comfortable and I prefer the larger room to a pokey, more modern hotel room. The service was impeccable on both stays - all staff members I dealt with were professional, friendly and helpful. One of the staff remembered me from my earlier stay and welcomed me back. The food is really good. On my first stay I had room service dinner twice (the Barramundi is delish) and breakfast once (loved the asparagus and goats cheese omelette). Dinner and breakfast the second stay did not disappoint. If you like to walk/run it's an easy walk to the river walkway and it's close to pretty much everything. I have stayed in two other nice hotels in Adelaide but when I next travel to Adelaide I will make sure to choose the Intercontinental as my first choice for accommodation. It's great!
