No entry for dogs! Never seen this!

Feb 15th, 2020

Never seen in a 5 star hotel. The dog (quiet, proper and well behaved) is not allowed to get in, even to lobby or bar! Very disappointing and clearly a reason to stay away from this place. Other negative point: no natural light in the dark lobby TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Is the “Lounge Bar” at the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva a little treasure?

Jan 31st, 2020

Luxury Hotel lounges tend be boring affairs where transient affluent frequent travelers relieve stress over drinks. So, what makes “The Bar” at Interconti different? It depends what one is looking for. It is not a place to hear persons next to you talk, or where hundreds of conversations told in loud voices. And yes, it does not have a live band. But, if you are after a superior and spacious place with a fireplace to relax, enjoy a drink and feel comfortable at the sound of live piano, it is the place to be. Service is first class, highly reliable and emotionally satisfying. The atmosphere is truly international upbeat and friendly. The guests are a mix of people from all over the world with a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. The Hotel is known for its VIP guests ranging from heads of state to diplomats and it is the place where U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pressed together, on March 6, 2009, a red "reset button" to symbolize improved ties. On a ridiculously rainy afternoon one could have a unique experience sunk comfortably into a leather sofa reading the FT or NYT, sipping a drink or enjoying a perfect cappuccino. There is a full range of bar drinks including a wide selection of spirits, Whisky, Brandy and Liqueurs, soft drinks and beer. A selection of teas and coffees are available throughout the day and are served with delicious pieces of chocolate. Prices are comparable to other hotels of the same caliber in Geneva. With increased competition among hotel brands for the same guests, service and hospitality can make or break not only a bar but a hotel as well. The “bar staff”, under the direction of Stephane, has taken hospitality to a different level; it becomes an extension of family values and warmth. Whether you are served by Xavier, Angelina, or Laure they are always friendly, unpretentious and attentive. I call them a “dream team” of professional motivated young persons who go the extra mile to accommodate all types of customers and to match guest’s needs with the server’s individuality whether they want a cold beer or a White Russian. My only suggestion for change relates to the two small tables in front of the bar and their chairs. Each table has two chairs, one is a padded armchair perfectly suited for adults and the other is what I would describe as a small wooden wing chair suited for children or midgets. Guests are instantly placed in a dilemma as to who is going to sit in which chair. To avoid that difficult decision most of them opt for comfortable couches farther from the bar. . . Cannot Do Better Than This

Jan 19th, 2020

Do not let the open space of the lobby deceive you. This is a great hotel with a fine pedigree. The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The rooms are spacious. The amenities are numerous. Try to get a room looking over Lake Geneva. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Classic hotel property welll-situated between the airport and downtown Geneva

Jan 7th, 2020

The Intercontinental Geneva hotel is a stately, contemporary, box-shaped hotel property with a certain timelessness about it. It is conveniently located on the #5 bus route between the airport (10 minutes) and downtown (18 minutes to Belair Pl). As Platinum Ambassador-level IHG members we were upgraded from our standard reservation to a quiet, spacious, corner room at the back left of the hotel on the 11th floor. The room was naturally lit with two walls full of large windows overlooking the quiet residential area. The space boasted a sizable work desk and ergonomic leather task chair, a long modern luncheon table with stools, nice euro coffee machine with pod capsules, comfortable bed with our pre-selected choice of pillows, and a modest-sized bathroom with a tub shower and spray wand. Complaints? The tub drain was very slow. One bottle of complimentary mineral water seemed paltry (esp since any addtl beverage from the mini-bar or room service was a rather steepish 9CHF—3x the price at a nearby convenience store). We thought the meals at the hotel seemed pricey (esp. given that this trip was not on an expense account.). Thus, we dined at the fantastic Geneva “Noel aux Bastions” Christmas market (thanks to hotel desk staff—esp. Aleksandra—for your perfect suggestion!). 44CHF/each person breakfast was not included with our free hotel award night rate so we just partook of our free breakfast before our flight home in the Swiss First Lounge at the airport. We were pleased by the refreshing Hammam on the spa/gym level downstairs next to the Clarins Spa, but there was no one there (staff-wise) to instruct me when I showed up for a steam and sauna at their 8am opening time. Pretty intuitive—once you note the 4 private changing room/showers are further down the hallway nearer the fitness room—and not actually within the Hammam area itself. Each private changing/shower room had keys in avaioable lockers and freshly folded robes and slippers inside for you. Just a minor holdup as I had entered the Hammam area directly from the hall before realizing that one should obviously be changed (elsewhere) before entering. The metal key and ring did not have the usual plastic coated stretch bracelet to wear it (so ideally your swimsuit will have a pocket, or you will be relegated to leaving the key in your robe pocket on the very nice heated towel warmers). Yes: “first world problems”, but come on... This is a major global hotel chain and I guess I expect greater attention to detail from the famously meticulous Swiss—who else could have produced Patek Philippe? The outdoor pool was closed for the winter, but the clean modest gym will suffice for most trying to stay fit for the slopes-or until summer returns. Hotel boasts 24-hour room service and bar restaurants onsite. Transportation was very convenient. If you have easily manageable luggage, the #5 bus is a viable and convenient option—especially since there are free “Tout Geneve” transport slips (valid for 80 minutes from issuance) to be had at a self-service machine at the GVA baggage claim. (*Find it under well-marked signage near the Information booth to the left of the exit—just before you leave the airport baggage claim. Just press the button to print one time-stamped ticket slip per each passenger). The Intercontinental Geneva hotel (& I believe “any” area hotel) then provides a free Geneva transport card for the duration of your stay at check-in. Many food options of all price points abound in the nearby area, airport/train station, and city center. (*The GVA airport is also the terminus of a main Swiss rail line and thus boasts nearly any food/drink/shopping option of interest to traveling rail and/or air passengers). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, fantastic staffs

Jan 2nd, 2020

At first it seems like this hotel is out of the way from town but it is actually in a very convenient location. We were given a travel card by the hotel and we were able to hop on and off buses to go everywhere, including the water taxi. Staffs are the hotel are very helpful and bedding were very comfortable. Will stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
