New Year's Eve Party and the day after

Feb 25th, 2020

New Year's Eve by Biscayne Bay party, he event was due to start at 9:00 pm, we arrived before 9:00 ( we were staying at the hotel) and accommodated at table 36, after 9:30. Then, we waited for more than 30 minutes, and no person approached our table nor offered us any assistance. They didn't provide us any drinks, food, and we didn't even have water to drink. I went to the entrance and told the hostess that we needed them to come to my table because we weren't being taken care of, and my eight-year-old son was falling asleep and needed to eat something. Three times I asked for attention to different staff members, and I never got assistance. In the end, someone told me that my table had no services because I had not bought the service ( We paid the full premium services ). After multiple discussions with different people of the event, we decided to leave the place at 10:24 pm. I have a picture of our table # 36 empty at the time we go. Next day, the same caos with the only restaurant open for a breakfast, we needed eating at a local restaurant in calle 8. I made a claim with the Hotel since January and they did not call me back as they promised me. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Feb 23rd, 2020

Outstanding views of cruiseport. But front desk follow thru on promised service poor. No sundry shop open past 5 for sodas( and NO WE DONT WANT TO HAVE TO GO TO BAR FOR CANS OF COKE). Ice machines on floor did not work. And obviously had not for long time. Towel quality poor. Breakfast buffet average food quality. Saw used thong on floor in lobby. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great value, excellent service

Feb 22nd, 2020

Stayed for a few days in a club room - excellent facilities from the gym and pool to the bars and restaurants. Great location for getting around downtown Miami. Club room made a huge difference and was well worth the extra. In fact, it was closed for repairs one day and we were given a very generous voucher to spend in the restaurant downstairs. Great ambassador for the Intercontinental brand. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location for Miami marathon

Feb 21st, 2020

Good location if you are running Miami's Half marathon. I noticed many runners staying at the hotel over the weekend however the hotel didn't seem to acknowledge this event. I travel often for races and most hotels have special accommodations for big events. Late I checkout, special food such as pasta options, water... etc. I always pay for the club level to make sure I have access for a drink or quick bite before and after the race. This was waste of money as the club level was opening after the race started and by the time I got back from the race the breakfast and snacks were locked... I tried asking but they seemed to be bother and pretty much I was ignored. When making the reservation I mentioned that I needed late checkout they couldn't confirm but they informed it shouldn't be a problem... well it was a problem. I called the front desk to see if I could stay one hour after checkout time to get everything ready and take a warm shower after the race and I was denied. They said they could hold my luggage and I could use the facilities in the Spa. Then when trying to use the facilities in the SPA the lady was asking to provide my hotel statement..and proof I was a guest. I only had my clothes to change as I had place everything in my car... Thank God I leave in Florida therefore I decided to get in my car EXHAUSTED, and sweaty from the race and drive 4 hours to my home. Rooms are ok. We had an issue with the air conditioning as it was really cold and the AC didn't seem to work. A tech came to assis but he said that we only had the option to turn it off or leave it cold...guest cant control their room AC. I would try another hotel next year that is more welcome to accommodate special request. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not my style of hotel

Feb 21st, 2020

The Intercontinental Miami is a luxury hotel with full service for conferences and conventions, which is what brought me here for three nights. From the beginning I was put off by the attitude and up-tight feel of the property. The entry is a wide length of 5 or 6 steps, followed by more steps after entering the main doors. I only found the ramps later which would have been useful with my luggage. The large lobby with atrium is attractive and inviting, but there is no signage for check-in, I had to find it on my own. Once checked in I went on up to my room but neither of the key cards worked on my door, I had to go all the way back down with my luggage to get that issue fixed. In the room there was a mini bar and various snacks at ridiculous prices ($6 for a mini can of Pringles). I am not a fan of mini bars so I texted to request all the products be removed for my stay. In my previous stays at minibar properties this has always been handled courteously and at no charge. I was told there was a $35 fee for clearing out the minibar, which blew my mind. REALLY? I declined the fee, and was told they would send up a separate mini fridge "as a one-time courtesy" for being Spire Elite. The staff seemed like it was a bother or a chore to attend to me as a guest, and it was evident that Spire status means next to nothing at Intercontinental properties. I was not given a high floor room nor an ocean-view room. The hotel room was in good condition and clean, with a comfortable bed and a/c that worked well at cooling the room. Other areas of the hotel showed its age, especially crumbling fixtures and general duct-tape and hodge-podge-style "fixes" of the area around the outdoor pool. The conference areas showed dirty ducts, splitting trim work, and other general neglect that indicated maintenance is not a priority. Be aware, there is a $20 per night hotel service fee tacked onto your room rate, with additional taxes on the fee, that is intended to cover things that other hotels provide for free: internet access, pool use, fitness center use, etc. Even if you opt not to use the services there is still a fee. I always find it ironic that hotels that promote themselves as luxury properties are the ones most likely to charge guests for everything imaginable. I did not park a vehicle here nor did I eat in the restaurants, so I can't comment on those aspects. I've had great experiences at other luxury hotels, but the Intercontinental Miami was not a comfortable experience for me. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
