Lovely hotel, wonderful staff

Mar 21st, 2019

I visited this lovely hotel to see the beautiful exhibition of Huichol art and although my visit was brief and only to the bar and exhibition areas, I was impressed by the attention of the staff. I walked in looking like something the cat dragged in as I had been running around the city and had gotten lost en route to this establishment (be careful; there's another hotel with a similar name, one that is not of the same caliber). Even though I did not look like I had any business being in a lovely hotel, the staff was so hospitable! The concierge invited me to see the portion of the exhibition behind the desk and then she explained that there were more pieces throughout the halls and bar. Once I was in the bar, I felt a drink was in order after the ordeal of getting lost. I ordered my usual tequila, which they did not have, but the bartender, Altemio I believe was his name, gave me a brief lesson in the tequilas they carry. I ordered one and enjoyed the ambiance and his hospitality. Of course bartenders are skilled at making conversation and making one feel comfortable, but he was very down to earth and made my time there quite pleasant. I learned that there's a happy hour, which is a great deal of 2 for one beers, and enjoyed the unusually pleasant weather in the outdoor area. After my third drink he brought me a small plate of a few tasty morsels, which I had not expected nor had I thought I'd wanted, but in retrospect, after three drinks I needed. I saw he greeted arriving guests with complementary cocktails and thought that was nice. Although I typically rent an apartment in this city due to the fact that my stays are extensive, if I were to stay only a few nights, I would definitely consider this hotel. It was exceptionally clean and had all of the amenities one would expect in a hotel of this caliber. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stayed here with a friend as a solo female

Mar 17th, 2019

My friend uses this hotel for work and invited me to Join him here on a trip here to stay and explore on my own. It's situated far enough out of Centro, the town centre, to be away from the noise and bustle but still close enough for an easy walk to the shops and bars. The hotel is clean and cool, the tiled floor stunning and the rooms are cool and beautiful. The free water and coffee is very welcome. I felt very safe on my own here and the staff cannot help enough. They have helped me arrange tours and nothing is too much trouble. The pool isn't huge, but it's cool and clean which is welcome in the Mexican heat! Andelmo at the lobby bar is a fun, friendly and exceedingly competent bar man. He's made fantastic cocktails and is great for conversation. All in all I loved staying here! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Seriously Disappointed... Again

Mar 13th, 2019

This hotel has the potential to be a truly great hotel. The bones are there, but the management is in shambles. There are two front desk staff that are a joy to deal with - Adriel is one of them. And the personnel, in the concierge lounge, are genuinely attentive. The lobby is inviting, and is reminiscent of the glory days of hotels; the high ceiling, the doormen, the sculptures, and the brightness - all are inviting, and fill one with the anticipation of greatness… but that is where it all comes to a crashing halt! I also want to mention that this is not my first stay -it is my second. I stayed here, for the fist time, one year ago, almost to the days. I was assured, by the management, that my issue with that stay were far from the normal and, if given another opportunity, I would see that. This is that second opportunity - and things were actually worse, this time around. My room is on the second floor (as I am writing while still at the hotel). In the room beneath me is an incessant banging on the pipes, and goodness knows what else - and has been going on nearly the entire afternoon. It has also been going on for three days. In the late evenings, they seem to be moving furniture around, in the very same room. Today, until about 20 minutes ago, I had no internet. At least it coincided with the construction below me - so I couldn’t be here to work anyhow. Over the weekend I had no hot water - none. And this was 1:30 in the afternoon. They said that they would fix it, and they did. then I had cold water, and hot water - but nothing regulated in-between. And as I showered anyhow - in water that now had a brown tint to it, I had the water shut off completely, mid-shower, for about 20 minutes. As is customary, when the room is cleaned, two bottles of water are supplied, as well as two coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. For the first five days of my day, these items were replaced each day. then the replacements stopped. If I wanted water, or coffee pods, I had to go down to the lobby and request them. As an addendum, to those that are IHG Spire Ambassadors, beware; if you use points to pay for your room, you are not eligible for the room upgrade, or the use of the concierge lounge. If you call IHG Customer Care they will assure you that that is incorrect, but in this hotel it is not. In fact, I had a supervisor from IHG Spire call the hotel manager, directly, and tell him that the hotel’s policy was incorrect - but still they refuse to honor the perks if you pay with points. Comfortable, reasonably priced hotel in Merida

Feb 4th, 2019

I stayed in this hotel for a weekend when I went to a wedding near Merida. It was well priced, well located, and not all inclusive. Good service and food. The rooms were not super modern but they were nice and very clean I would return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
