Didn't meet my expectations

For a luxury hotel, I was really expecting more. But this hotel, at least my room, felt tired and wasn't really a four star experience. For the price we paid a night, I wish I had booked into a Holiday Inn or Hilton - because it felt mid market at best. We arrived after a long journey and so were pretty tired. The front desk staff were really lovely and able to check us in early. Our room had seen better days. The window frames had poorly applied cement applied to cracks, the bathroom grouting was no longer white, and the towels were thin and scratchy. The room came with an open bottle of water left on the counter and the bathroom also came with a ton of hair from the last guest. The bathroom light was also faulty, flickering on and off. I alerted the front desk who said they would fix it that day (it continued throughout the stay). The quality of amenities was also poor. The keurig came with a ton of green tea and only 2 coffee pods, all unbranded basic varieties. You kind of expect better for the price you pay. Positives? The staff were nice, the bed was comfortable. The room was spacious, and the view was pretty cool. The WiFi and TV are good. But let's be realistic, if you want a comfy bed, WiFi and a TV - you might as well pay half the price and book into a HI express!! I wouldn't waste my money on this hotel if I were you! They need to renovate their rooms, bring in higher quality amenities, towels, and get their housekeeping to do a better job going forward. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely hotel

I stayed in a king room for a week in December while I was working at a nearby theatre. It’s a lovely hotel, extremely comfortable beds, friendly front desk employees and a nice restaurant downstairs. I used the gym a few times as well which was shockingly nice - they even had free earphones to use and a big bowl of fruits (which I often stocked up on for breakfast). I was on the 15th floor overlooking the river. It’s not totally soundproof though - my first night I had trouble sleeping because I could hear the train outside (which runs multiple times throughout the day/night) but once I put white noise on my phone, I was fine. I ordered a couple of times from the restaurant downstairs, it’s tasty but a little pricey. I wouldn’t have wanted to eat there everyday for the week. This hotel is in a great location for walking. There’s a number of restaurants and different live performance venues in the area. I would stay here again if I was ever back in St. Paul! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointing experience, but not for lack of trying.

My family chose the hotel for our Christmas celebration. Stayed overnight on Christmas Eve, and stayed for the Christmas prix fixe dinner. The hotel is a bit long in the tooth, not at all what I expected from the Intercontinental premium brand. The help seemed inexperienced but eager to please. We needed two adjoining rooms, one with wheelchair accessibility. This terribly disappointing setup set the mood for the stay, I'm afraid. It's incredulous that, 30 years after enactment of the Americans With Disabilities Act, a hotel group with the premium stature of Intercontinental does little more than lip service to accommodating diversity; after all, people with disabilities fit the "diversity" moniker. And what is not realized is that, as the aging population grows, so does the disability population. It would have taken little to no expense for the hotel to get this right, and the room would not have to look like a nursing home. As it stood, the room was a firetrap waiting to happen, should, God forbid, emergency evacuation become necessary. The setup simply wasn't at all thought out. Obviously, the accommodating spirit does not extend to disabled guests. The Christmas meal was a mixed bag. Again, the staff tried hard to accommodate but the skill level was wanting. The chef gave it a college try. Appetizers and dessert were first-rate. We tried all three entrees, and all three were very disappointing. We'd give the place another chance, if we didn't require accommodations for wheelchair accessibility. As it stands, though, we just can't go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Value and Accommodations

In St Paul for a concert this past weekend. Wonderful room with awesome views. Got the rate with breakfast included, totally worth it as breakfast and the service was excellent. This is a great location for most every St Paul venue, Xcel Energy, The Palace Theater, RiverCentre etc. Friendly staff!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not going back!

So we booked this through Priceline for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The weather turned and we needed to go up a night early. So I went to my Priceline booking and there was no option to add a night. Ok, so I called the hotel...or so I thought. I actually got the call center in Jamaica and they have no idea what is going on. I was assured my reservations could be linked and there would be no problem. WRONG! I had to check out and check back in the first morning there (they did not make me change rooms). The room was TINY and cramped. If those were queen beds, I will eat the beds, no way, no how. And let's talk parking garage...awful! I had the front underside of my Subaru Legacy scraped because it is such a shoddy parking garage. It is very convenient to park right next to the hotel but I honestly don't trust that garage and will not be back. Perhaps it was because they were working the holiday, but front desk staff was less than kind. I am not returning to this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
