Nice conveniently located downtown hotel overlooking the Mississippi River

Mar 6th, 2020

Self-parking is available, which cost $24 per night or $48 for my two-night stay. I recommend self-parking on level P2, which is located on the 2nd floor of the hotel lobby elevators. I was able to get a paring spot within a short walk to the hotel entrance. Mobile check-in did not function. There was a very long slow-moving line to check-in. As an IHG platinum member, I received one drink coupon, which I redeemed at the hotel bar for a draft beer. I did not receive a self-parking in/out pass at check-in even though I gave the front desk staff my self-park ticket. This was my first time here on business at the adjacent convention center. I really enjoyed my upgraded king bedroom corner room 1913 for $186 inclusive of all taxes with windows on two walls of the room with one side overlooking the Mississippi River. A small refrigerator was standard. I was disappointed with the small 42-inch flat screen TV. A room and hotel of this stature and size should have at least a 50-inch flat screen TV. I enjoyed free WiFi. The hotel texted me about my check-in, which I explained some of my disapointments. The bathroom towels were very nice. I especially enjoyed my large bath towel, because I am 6 foot 2 inches tall. The bathroom door was made of very solid heavy wood. I was told about the Sky Way to the River Centre convention center, but, direction signage along the way was poor. It took about 10 minutes to walk from the hotel to the River Centre convention center. The IHG app check out function did not operate, therefore, I returned to the front desk to check-out and retrieve a parking ticket to vacate the self-parking lot. I later learned that IHG has app check out problems at their other hotels. I would definitely stay here again if my business was located at the River Centre convention center and the room cost less than $175. Hopefully IHG will solve some of their service related problems. Great hotel!

Feb 27th, 2020

I had a wonderful business stay at this hotel and would stay in the future with family. To start while waiting for the front desk I was greeted by a highly engaging concierge who made me feel very welcome. Read prior reviews on the self parking; I found the parking extremely convenient with the lot connected directly to the hotel. The room and bathroom were very large with a ton of counter and drawer space. The gym was also very spacious with free weights & plenty of cardio machines. The cafe for breakfast had a healthy selection of breakfast or lunch options which were handy to grab and go. Food and service at the Citizen restaurant within the hotel was excellent - we tried all of the small plates. Great location and hotel overall! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Our room smelled like sewage

Feb 23rd, 2020

We told the front desk that our room smelled like sewage. They offered to move us to a room where we would be sleeping in different beds which is not what I paid for. My fiancee and I looked forward to this stay for the last month so tried to make the best of it and laid in a room smelling even worse like sewage because they removed the scents attached to our vents that someone had put in the room before our stag. The next morning the front desk charged us full price because they said the overnight gentleman Chao had offered us a King size room as a replacement which is a lie. They offered us a room with two smaller beds. I have now wasted my hard earned money on a miserable experience that has resulted in my fiancee and I being stressed. I regret every second booking a room at the Riverfront St. Paul. If you are planning a wedding or event, run away because they wont treat your guests they way you'd like them to. Their employee Girma and the restaurant staff are fantastict. The management (Chao) who truly doesnt care about your concerns and the cleaning staff (Jesse) will cover up problems by installing car scents to cover up the smell of sewage and then grab them off the vent as soon as you bring the sewage scent to their attention. It's just a guess that Jesse grabbed the Febreeze Car scents off of our vents in order to hide the fact that Chao or his boss know they have a problem they won't fix or are incapable of fixing because of the building. Thank you for a cold night cracking the window for FRESH air worth $300 of disappointment. We will never be back nor recommend this place...ever TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This is in case you want to use the Ambassador Lounge. Don't bother.

Feb 18th, 2020

First off - great views at the upper levels out onto the Mississippi. If you are planning on using your Ambassador membership, they really aren't interested in providing it. Went over President's day and the Lounge was closed. It was closed not because of construction or anything excusable, they just were not in the mood to keep it open. I know it sounds crazy, but is true. When I asked about breakfast they comped me a free meal, but warned me that it would not happen again because I was not a 'Royal Ambassador'. Short version - if you plan to stay here and use your Ambassador perks, be aware that you have a good shot of them simply shrugging you off. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Customer Service

Feb 13th, 2020

We arrived at the Intercontinental and had checked into our room, when we noticed we had some issues. I went to the front desk and spoke with Christina M. who was extremely accommodating and worked diligently to resolve our issues and get us a new room. Christina went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure we enjoyed our stay at the Intercontinental!! She was very sweet and made us feel like a very valued customer! As a result of this positive experience, we will definitely return to the Intercontinental when we are in town again and will be sure to spread the word regarding our positive experience!
