Fantastic staff

Jun 16th, 2019

Puerto Rico has been a common destination for my family's vacations. We stayed at one hotel before, and on our second trip stayed at the Intercontinental. We have not looked back. The grounds are beautiful, we have always received excellent service, and love the ocean view. The staff also is very friendly and makes you feel at home. Special shout out to Pedro Salinas, who works at the Akua pool bar. He has been working here for as long as we have been coming, is always a smiling and friendly face to see, and is one of the main reasons we keep coming back to the ISJ. He makes delicious drinks, has great customer service, and is always making sure we feel welcome and are having an enjoyable time! Because of Pedro and the other staff, we can’t wait for our next trip! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ok, but not the greatest

Jun 8th, 2019

I picked this hotel based on location and advice. It's only about 15 mins from the airport. A $20 cab ride. Or maybe cheaper via uber. I arrived about 9am. A little too early for check in. The bellman Omar offered to hold my suitcase while I checked in. That was nice. I asked the front desk lady what kind if room I had. Her reply was you have a 8th floor room and you booked through a third party so that is the street view. I then asked for another view. 1st she said we can upgrade you to an ocean view for $60 extra per night. Ok I agreed. Then she said oh we don't have one available. Next she said she can put me in a 6th floor room. I agreed. 2 seconds later that wasn't available. I started to get a little frustrated her response was we are only doing this as a courtesy check in is at 4. That response wasn't needed especially after you offered 2 rooms just to say they wasn't available. I agreed to just wait until 4pm and left my phone number. 2 hrs later a room on the 7th floor was available. I took that. While waiting I was given a wrist band to use on the resort. While waiting I ate breakfast at the beach bar. I only had avacado toast but it was delicious. After I went to the room showered and changed to go to the beach. Good feature about this hotel. The beach is right behind it. You can walk thru the beach bar or out a guarded fence. They offer to get you a chair and umbrella. They have waiters and waitresses to serve you. In walking distance there is a cvs, churches chicken, chill's, and a few other restaurants, platos, metropol, hijole and alambique is all I went to. This hotel is under construction and from what other guests said it was being closed and reopened towards the end of the year. I agree the hotel needs upgrading from the room to the bottom floor but overall not bad except for the little incident with I think a pipe breaking and almost flooding the lobby. Perhaps offer free breakfast or complimentary breakfast. Maybe a shuttle to and from the airport. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing Concierge

Jun 6th, 2019

My family has a near-by condo in Isla Verde, and we stopped into the InterContinental to book an excursion through the concierge. While we only came in to book one, we ended up booking a second because the concierge, Emmely Ayala, was so kind and helpful. She even looked at a previous reservation for an excursion I had made online and let me know the company was a fraud!! She helped me rebook a very similar trip (in a wildly short time frame) at a MUCH lower price with an incredibly reputable tour company. One of the most remarkable parts of my expeirnce with Emily is even thought I stopped in close to 9pm, she was still polite, helpful, and all of her tour contacts were accessible by phone. Each tour she called answered the phone!! Further, she gave us her honest reviews and opinions of experiences we were considerings, which was deeply appreciated, even helping us compare price points. I can't talk highly enough about my experience with Emmely! She is a treasure for this hotel and the San Juan area! I will certainly book any future excursion in Puerto Rico with her, and I would recommend her and her services to anyone! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Pedro Salinas at the outside Akua bar/restaurant was a true professional, and very friendly. Pedro took pride in his delicious cocktails and explained everything on the menu. Lots of patients and aimed to please us guests. He made our experience very memorable and because of him, we will be back TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely Hotel, on one side

May 23rd, 2019

I stayed here for a couple of nights on business, and was stuck with "mountain view" room. Code for parking lot view. The room itself was very nice, if a bit dated, the bathroom was gorgeous and huge, with really nice amenities. The HVAC was sort of non-functional- this may be a PR thing- it was so cold, we couldn't get it any warmer, and nothing in the room ever dried, everything stayed damp. The pools were stunning, but the beach was beyond gorgeous! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the key and towel system here! They give you a comfy elastic bracelet as your room key, and it opens a towel machine at the pool- take what you need, return it when you're done- GENIUS! The BEACH IS PERFECTION! Silken sand, Blue and warm, stunning paradise! Their Ocean Bar is wonderful- mojitos! We also ate their downstairs puerto rican restaurant which I will review separately- it was very good. Was going to go to the sushi restaurant, but the only serve set rolls- no sashimi, no sushi, ONLY MAKI, period. how stupid is that? Some rooms were undergoing renovation. I would say if you can get an ocean view room- this is nice- if not maybe don't spend any time in your room except to sleep LOL TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
