Prime rib ~ YUM
Oct 27th, 2020
We were on the Island for a 3 night getaway. Did not stay at this hotel but it was Monday night so went to their restaurant for the prime rib special. We picked it as we had not been there for quite a while. We live in Brownsville and can go to Island for day trip or just for an elegant dinner. Husband wanted a good salad so I suggested Isla Grand and it was Monday night, hence the Monday night special. The salad did not disappoint nor did the prime rib. On this occasion they were not serving their specialty bread. (Not sure how that fits in with Covid guidelines.) But when I asked if there were bread, the server complied and brought the usual offering. I say usual, but the 3 types of butter were not included on this occasion, just regular butter pats. I also heard the couple at next table ask about bread and they, likewise, were brought the small loaf bread choice. Server was wearing face mask as were diners as they entered the dining room. A pleasant dining experience. Hand sanitizer was on a stand at entrance. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Grand No More

Isla Grand We took a quick trip to South Padre to relax after months of being cooped up. We decided on Isle Grand after consulting our trusted TripAdvisor but ended up feeling mislead and disappointed. At one time, this resort may have been “grand” but no more. It was dated and dirty with the highlight being a bunch of dead ants caked to the walls in the bathroom. It looked as if they were sprayed but never cleaned off. We payed extra for a beach front room only to find ourselves hiking a significant distance with luggage in tow. At night our hallway was pitch black-no lights at all. Very disappointing stay. Sand Bar Entertainment
Aug 31st, 2020
Have not stayed at the hotel but we have eaten there in main dining room several times. Food was delicious and hotel looked to be very clean. Our favorite place at the hotel is the Sand Bar on Sunday nights. Leslie Blasing and Clay Underwood combined are dynamite! They light up that bar like you would not believe unless you are there to see for yourself. So many of us are hoping their contract gets extended! In addition to this dynamic duo, you also get great drinks at a fair price and the most beautiful view of the gulf! Rate with as many stars possible plus!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Possibly coming back
Aug 20th, 2020
The location of our room was great, by the parking lot, close to the pool and the walkway to the beach. Restaurant was good but a little over priced. Drinks by the pool definitely over priced. Had a cold shower on the last night, no hot water in shower or sink:/ Giant roach in the bathroom first night, eww. The pool itself could have been a little cleaner but the pool area was really nice. The beach was perfect and clean. We don't come to SPI often but would consider coming back to Isla I would suggest putting a microwave in the hotel style rooms. I understand they want us to eat at their restaurant but what good does it do to take leftovers when you can't heat them up? TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Tropical Texas! Who knew?
Aug 13th, 2020
What a great find this property was for us! Always wanted to go and with Covid limitations we drove from the DFW area. From the moment we pulled in front of the resort and set foot inside the lobby we knew it was going to be a wonderful 4-day stay. The 5 of us had the 2 bed/2 bath high rise condo. Worth every dollar! Lovely decor, full view of the beach, ocean, both pools, shuffle board and tennis courts. The beach has umbrellas and chairs to rent on uncrowded, physically distant area steps away from the resort with - get this - litter patrol and it is enforced ! The same is pristine and soft. Both pools are immaculate. Everyone wears face coverings on staff and sets the example for guests. Food is EXCELLENT! Orders places for room service ( that’s how we chose to be safe) was delivered within 30-50 minutes. With the exception of one meal which we give feedback about and it did not fall on deaf ears. Unlike some properties that either might get defensive or just nod, the F&B Director met with me for compliments on delicious dining through room service and feedback about an experience that did not go well. He is a true professional in Hospitality. His demeanor was professional and personable and made us feel that we mattered. Having been at this property since a teen working his way up speaks volumes about dedication and determination for the resort he represents. Augie is the best and leads his trams well. You can see that in how they model how behavior. Our time went too fast. There is much to do or not. It’s up to you. There’s a place to book tours like dolphin watching or parasailing if you’re game. Fishing. You can plsy shuffleboard or tennis. Ride the waves or just chill. This is a very safe area too. We loved having the square footage for a family five from 16 years old to 94 plus a dog to feel at home on vacation in tropical Texas. When your 19 year old who rarely wants to spend a lot of family time asks is we can come back and celebrate the end of the year it says much about the comfort level and attraction to satisfy people at every age. We did make full breakfasts in the Condo having 2 teens who rarely rise before 10 or 11am, and brought healthy snacks, refreshments and lots of water. The dog felt at home too and the staff made her feel welcomed genuinely. If you book a Condo bring some paper products, soaps and don’t forget you have a full kitchen! They supply everything else. Dishes, pots, pans, linens. There is great service when you need to replenish towels in the room as well as poolside for the pools and beach. There is a restaurant on property, a quick stand for coffee in case you don’t want to make it in your room , a gift shop, a bar and snack shop poolside, entertainment on weekends and in the summertime the island has fireworks ! A couple times a week. Rent a light up golf cart ( not affiliated with the resort) and go enjoy the evening breeze and great view of the sky lighting up. This resort gets a high 5 with both hands! We WILL definitely go back. And can’t wait. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
