Location and style - a great choice

Jan 16th, 2020

My wife and I live in Northern California and have visited San Francisco many, many times, but rarely stayed overnight. But for a recent theater performance we decided to splurge and stay the night. A friend recommended the JW Marriott, and it was a great success! The location is superb, a block from Union Square, so there's plenty to walk to - shopping and Chinatown were our destinations - plus the theater was in walking distance. From the parking valet to the front desk, the staff was great - welcoming, knowledgeable and efficient. It's not a giant hotel (a good thing), so the feeling is more intimate than many. It's obviously quite modern and in perfect condition. Our room, a standard room, was very comfortable (great mattress and bedding!). We didn't try the lobby restaurant or bar, so I can't speak to them. Certainly a destination we will enjoy again in the future. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very good hotel

Jan 10th, 2020

Room was fantastic and clean. All the normal amenities you would expect from a JW. Only issue was with the staff in the bar area. One night we were there for an early drink before heading out, about 18:00 and we struggled to get hold of anyone for service. The bar was quiet yet no one to be found. Eventually another employee that was not part of the bar staff served us as they could see we had been waiting for some time. Another member of the proper bar staff did not know the difference in colour between a cab sav and sav blanc and got the wines mixed up when we ordered from the happy hour menu. On a more positive note though, when we returned later one evening the staff were great at that point. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Convenient downtown location

Jan 7th, 2020

The hotel is not actually on Union Square, but is only one block away and easy walking distance to many restaurants, major stores, and theaters. We arrived early. Our room was not ready, so the hotel checked our bags and said they would text when we could check in. The text never arrived, but our room was ready when we returned at 5 PM. I was told that as a Bonvoy elite member we were upgraded to a corner room. The room was perhaps slightly larger, but otherwise nothing special. It contained a strange mix of furniture which seemed more than necessary and made the room feel crowded. The bathroom was roomy, but had only a single sink and a large shower. One might expect that a JW bathroom would also have a tub, but it did not. There are no ice machines on the floors, but some ice was provided as part of the turn down service. Extra towels requested arrived quickly. The executive lounge on the top floors serves a buffet, but nothing special, breakfast and evening drinks and hors d'oeuvres. The bar on the lobby level has some good appetizers and cocktails, although drink prices are on the high side. Service was great. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Really great stay

I really enjoyed my one night stay at this hotel. Not only was the location convenient, I really enjoyed the room itself. It was clean, had nice modern decor, and I especially liked the bathroom. It was a very comfortable stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Comfortable stay in a good location

Jan 2nd, 2020

My wife and I stayed here for a two nights while visiting San Fran. Room is overall nice and modern, and hotel is conveniently located in the Union Square area, with plenty of dining and shopping opportunities. We used the fitness center which was quite nice and clean. I used my mobile phone to request early check-in and room was already available when I arrived around noon. On-site valet parking is quite pricey though. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
