Feels like being home with a wonderful touch of history

I loved staying at the Keating House! The host Douglas is wonderful, he makes you feel right at home. The atmosphere of the Keating house is very unique and special but still warm and welcoming. I stayed in the Chauffer's room which has a beautiful balcony overlooking downtown and the airplanes landing at San Diego International Airport which is not far from the hotel. If you don't like the noise of airplanes it might not be your favorite place to stay but I thought it gave my stay at the Keating House an extra special touch. Also the airplanes dont' fly at night so it is quiet during the night. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Charming B+B with excellent location

I enjoyed my stay very much and recommend it. The house has a lot of nice decorations. I was in the Aqua Room which has a private entrance leading to the florid backyard, in addition another door which opens up to a hall to the kitchen. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom fine. Breakfast was simple but ok. The neihgborhood's pleasant to walk in. It is a short walk from here to the El Prado entrance of the park. There are also some excellent restaurants in walking distance. I took an unstressful 1.5mile walk to the convention center in 30 minutes--albeit downhill--every day I was here, but rode back. . Just loved this place and we were treated kindly and the hosts were generous and caring. It’s an interesting heritage house, clean and beautifully decorated. Located well too and enjoyed using public transit throughout our stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice, Welcoming Place to Stay!
Aug 27th, 2018
My wife and I stayed at Keating house for a weekend in Mid-August. It was really a very nice place to stay. The house is in a great neighborhood close to Balboa Park and not too far from Little Italy. It's an old Victorian home, built in 1888, so you can't expect the place to have all your modern amenities. But it really was a great place. The Hosts: We coordinated with Doug that we would arrive between Noon and 1PM. He was fine with that. When we checked in, we really appreciated all the information about the local areas, along with recommendations on where to go and what to see. He spent 10-15 minutes with us answering questions, which was nice, because we hadn't been to SD in over 20 years. He was pleasant in every interaction I had with him. The Room: We stayed in the Aqua Room. It was in the back of the house and had a private entrance with french doors leading to the back yard patio (which is beautiful). It's a small, older room, but it did the trick. The bed was comfortable enough and the bathroom, while small, met our needs. We didn't have any issues with our accommodations. I feel we got a pretty good value for the price we paid. Parking: Can be tough to find street parking the later you get home. However, Doug said we were welcome to park our car in the driveway as long as we left our keys in the kitchen so the car could be moved, if needed. Location: About a mile to the zoo. A mile to Little Italy. A nice quiet neighborhood. I loved the location. Easy to get everywhere we wanted. Breakfast: Almost non-existent. Some fruit and cereal if you like. We knew this up front. They said they recently reduced the rates of the rooms because they were cutting back on breakfast. So I have no issues with it. They let you store things in the fridge if you're so inclined. Plane Noise?: Yes...the house is in the flight path. However, we came in after 9 each night and didn't hear anything. I suppose if you're in earlier, you might hear things, but we had a quiet stay. Overall, I would certainly recommend this place. Give it a try the next time you're in San Diego. It's a nice change from the normal hotel scene...and will likely save you some money as well. BTW...if you're there on a Saturday morning, I strongly recommend the Little Italy Farmer's Market. One of the best I've been to. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Great old house, friendly hosts and excellent location.

We spent 4 days there recently and very much enjoyed our visit. The location is great. We either walked or used Uber and it worked out better than having a car. Getting to the waterfront, downtown or Balboa park was simple and cheap. Our room was in the main house and it was quiet. The room was clean, historic and tastefully decorated. It was also quite large so there was plenty of room for us both. I do need to point out that the house is very near the flight path for planes coming into the airport. However the airport shuts down at night and no flights come in a night until morning. So noise for sleeping is not an issue. I would stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
