Key Largo Weekend Getaway

Waterside Suites (formerly Key West Inn) is located on the oceanside on a canal and marina. There is a nice view of the charter fishing boats and other vessels from the balcony. The rooms were clean and spacious - love having two bathrooms and small kitchen. We would definitely stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Don’t Judge a Book by It’s Cover

Had a wonderful time. The building is old but the inside is new and beautiful. The suite was spacious and we took advantage of the view of the boats and water outside from our balcony during the day and at night. The staff was extreme friendly and catered to our every need with pleasure. Nice getaway spot with the option to chill and enjoy your suite or step outside and enjoy bike riding, jet skis, glass bottom boat or a sports bar across the water with live music. Over billed !

I stayed here with my family end of June 2020. Though the property was clean, I booked 2 units and paid via one of these online portals. When I got to the condo I was told I was only charged for 1 unit. So they gather me for the 2nd unit.nwhen I got home I checked my credit card only to find out I was over billed by OVER $600 ! It has been over a month and a half and I have still not received a refund. I get the run around from the online portal and management, each blames the other. I am still out OVER $600 with no end in sight. Buyer beware !!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overbook and cancel on you!

We made a reservation through booking a few days before our trip to the keys . When we headed to Water suites & marina they called us and let us know that they overbooked and they had no more room for us. They said that they could make some arrangement and book for us another hotel with the same standing. We agreed to this however the hotel they booked for us had no kitchen, no water view, the two double beds were in the same bedroom instead of being in separate room. So we had to go and eat out because we had no kitchen and this increased the cost of our trip. I also got charged from the two hotels before being refunded. For this I had to contact them and someone first hung up on me and someone else finally fixed the problem without being hospitable. Overall if you get your room it might be a nice place be it seems to be a gamble.... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not Worth the Price, Needs High Level Review/Correction

This is my 4th stay at this property over the last several years. I am making this report while I still have a week to my current stay. PROs: 1. Good proxmity to Sparky’s Bar and Grille...almost nightly free music that you can hear from your balcony. 2. Nicely renovated rooms. 3. No more ants (old problem from previous stays.) CONs: (Note: This is likely my last stay at this property. I come down here nearly every year for a week or two of scuba diving. I’m simply discouraged by the lack of professionalism, the over-use of “Covid-19 protocols” and the lack of attention to detail. There are plenty of other properties that I can stay at nearby. 1. ZERO Room Servicing. The following notice is provided at check-in: “Housekeeping: For guests staying more than one night, housekeeping cleans the rooms on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s only. Should you need additional items please contact the front desk. Due to social distancing on these days if you need anything please let the house keeping (sic) staff know and they will provide you with it they will not enter your suite until departure (grammar sic). Okay, so what does this mean? When I read this, especially with the “Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s” highlighted with a yellow marker, I took this to understand that my room would receive SOME service on these days. This is amplified by the fact that the next sentence says, “...need anything ELSE (emphasis added)...”. When I inquired on Friday, 10 July, at approx 5PM, wondering why my room had not been serviced all week (I arrived late Monday) (bed made, trash taken out, towels replaced) the front desk response was “Didn’t you read the paper?” When I read the paragraph to him he said, “Maybe we are not reading the same paper.” My understanding of the English language led me to believe that “they will not enter your suite until departure” meant I had to be out of the unit for them to enter. The clerk said if I needed anything just ask for it; all I really wanted was the trash emptied and the towels changed...but I was so baffled by his attitude and this procedure that I said “Thank you” and left. So beware..if you are going to bring business to this property for an extended period they are going to hide behind the social distancing suggestions and not service your room in ANY FASHION unless you ask for it. (But...you can sit down without a mask across the canal and have dinner.) Hmm. Unprofessional. 2. Repeat Problem With Room Safe: This has happened every time I’ve come here...you would think I would have learned. Upon attempting to use the room safe shortly after check-in, the electric motor could clearly be heard running progressively slower...then an error code posted. Obviously the batteries were low. When I asked the front desk to have someone fix it I was told he maintenance man had already left (4:30PM or so July 6) and would get to it in the morning. Well, I would leave before he would come and I wanted to put some stuff in there....this happens every time I come here? I took matters into my own hands and bought 4 AA batteries ($8), used a screwdriver to remove the very loose torx screw, replaced the batteries and made the safe work. It still requires some lubrication but it works on the 2nd or 3rd try..most of the time. Problem? Attention to detail. 3. Water Restrictor in the Shower: You make this nice bathroom (and remove the shower from the lower bath) but put low flow/water restrictor in the upstairs shower? 4. Kitchen Amenities Are Lacking: The property website boasts of a “full” kitchen or kitchenette...but when you start looking through the cabinets there is very little. One fry pan, one small sauce pan, one larger pot, spatula, forks, knives, spoons, bowls, cups, etc. Note there are no plastic or glass bowls for storing leftovers. Simple...Attention to Detail. 5. The property name is now Waterside Suites and Marina yet on the canal side the sign has the old name, “Key West Inn”. Problem: Attention to Detail. 6. Information handout is full of grammatical errors. Unprofessional. 7. During the visit to the front desk mentioned above I was greeting with, “What do you need?” Not “Good afternoon Sir, how can I help you?” Or, “I’m sorry you had to wait (he was on phone)....how may I help you?” (Unprofessional) It’s disappointing to have to post this kind of review when I spent a LOT of money on this property. I get the impression that the management just figures we’ll be happy there is somewhere to stay and we should expect less than professional performance. Before the Covid-19 epidemic started I worked in an industry that required me to stay in hotels about 250 nights a year...I would say that I am a qualified judge of what is professional customer service and what is not. I recommend that senior property management, as well as Booking.com, TripIt, Trip Advisor, etc. look into these issues and make appropriate corrections. (#1 Priority should be the restoration of room housekeeping with the requirement that the guest not be present at the time of servicing....and not requiring the guest to seek out his own service. #2 Priority is to fix the attitude of the clerk I dealt with on July 10. #3 is to do some preventive maintenance on the safes.
