Stay in the Heart of Santa Barbara

Nov 5th, 2019

This hotel is so perfectly situated to enjoy all that Santa Barbara has to offer. It's walking distance to the shopping district, a short car ride to the beach and the zoo, and close to many, many wonderful restaurants. The staff is really wonderful and made such an effort to make our stay peaceful. A plus for us was free membership to the gym directly across from the hotel. It's a large gym -- Gold's Gym -- and very comfortable for a mom AND a 24-year-old son. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This is a Must in Santa Barbara

This is a great location within walking distance of State Street and all it has to offer....We were greeted by friendly staff right from the beginning (valet service to the front end employees) and we were upgraded to a junior suite ......rooftop pool and area is very large with wonderful views of the entire city and is offered in the lobby every morning and wine and appetizers are offered in the early evening for the guests...beds were very comfortable and room was quiet even though we were one floor below the rooftop where many parties and weddings celebrations were going on...we were treated very special and look forward to returning .... Very Disappointing

Oct 21st, 2019

There’s nothing about this hotel that would make me want to recommend it. Although pleasant the staff were very un knowledgeable about their city. When asked for recommendations they were , I hate to say unless! So much so we had to find the local tourist information centre. The hotel atmosphere lacks, and the location for us was not good. There were hotels nearer the waterfront that were more appealing and brighter and airier, The Canary was dark and closed in, not what I was expecting for a lovely seaside city. We even struggled to get onto the Acclaimed rooftop bar due to private parties on 3 days out of our 4.Which doesn’t make paying residents feel special, as I say a disappointing hotel . Wonderful visit

Oct 20th, 2019

We stayed at the Kimpton Canary on our one year anniversary, and management sent us champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries to our room. Our room on the first night was located on the second floor, had many windows, and no black out drapes. The noise from traffic kept us up all night—literally. There was also a considerable amount of light coming into the room from the street. We spoke with the front desk staff the next morning, and we were immediately moved to the 5th floor. The following two nights were quiet and perfect. Most hotels have rooms with noise issues, and the Canary staff handled this very well. The rooftop pool was lovely and had beautiful views, but we wish they had a few more lounge chairs (one day we couldn’t get a seat). All Kimpton hotels have different decor, depending on location. Though the actual shower could use an upgrade, we appreciated the old Spanish styles of the room, with beautiful wooden floors and a canopy bed. The restaurant in the hotel is great (Finch and Fork), and so both room service and the meal we had on the restaurant were delicious. This Kimpton offers complimentary coffee and tea every morning in the lobby, and a complimentary wine hour in the evening. These kinds of personal touches are very Kimpton, and made us feel very welcome. Thank you Carly at the front desk for all of your help! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A great hotel in a vibrant area of town

Oct 17th, 2019

My wife and I stayed seven nights at the Kimpton Canary Hotel in Santa Barbara in early October, 2019. This is an excellent hotel with pretensions of elegance. It is the first hotel in which we have stayed within the city of Santa Barbara to which we would readily return. The hotel borders a vibrant area with great shopping. A Nordstrom’s is within a stone’s throw of the hotel, and there are many smaller shops in strip malls (for pedestrians only and walled off from the surrounding area) that surround the Nordstrom’s. The hotel restaurant is excellent, but within easy walking distance are also California Pizza Kitchen and the Eureka restaurant. Don’t forget to have lunch outside in the top floor of Nordstrom’s, with a beautiful view of Santa Barbara and the mountains, where the sun shines in and netting keeps the birds out. I have a few suggestions for improvements. The hotel provides robes, as an elegant hotel should, but why not supply complementary slippers? The bellman, upon showing us to our room, should have gotten out one of the bottled water bottles and placed it on a table. It is stored on its side in a narrow drawer which opens stiffly, and not in a natural place to look. The bed is high off the floor and should be accessible by a footstool. The bathroom should have a night light for safety. Lots of bath towels and hand towels are provided, but why not two wash clothes per person instead of only one? The hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
