Pretty hotel in a great location.

I have been to Santa Barbara several times before and stayed at the Four Seasons and Bacara and this is my first time at the Kimpton. It’s a gorgeous Spanish style hotel. The restaurant and bar is lively and every night at 5p is wine in the lobby. We only ate breakfast at the hotel and it was good and not too pricy. The rooftop pool is gorgeous but tiny so it was very crowded when we went to take a look. Luckily we were there to check out State St. and see a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl which was so close you can even walk there (about a mile away). The best part about this hotel is that it’s close to State and easy to walk to all the shops and restaurants too! The rooms are adequate but the bed is divine! So comfy and cozy. I didn’t notice it was loud at all and we were on the 2nd floor next to the road. Awesome you can take your dog here free from any extra charge (like all Kimptons). The only negative to me is the price. This place was really expensive and for a 4 star venue in my opinion being a “hotel snob” (haha), it shouldn’t cost $700/night and $30 for valet. The staff here are super friendly. The location is superb. The restaurant downstairs is great. The complimentary Kimpton wine hour is -- well, you get it. I love staying at this hotel. You're right off of State Street and walkable to the pier, beaches, and the Funk Zone. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Roof top pool area ruined by weddings.
Jul 19th, 2019
We upgraded this hotel of our British Airways holiday after reviews of a beachfront hotel dropped and thought we had most things covered here - or not? Its central, classy and has beautiful interior spanish architecture. Our room had character with nice furniture, a bed sofa for son and a four poster that would pose problems for anyone under 5' high because of the height off the ground. It was spotlessly clean. I was desperate to visit the roof top pool as this was a big attraction for me with awesome views of Santa Barbara. Its not a big area but popular and we had to wait for beds. So about half the roof area is plunge pool/bar and half for other functions divided by a flight of steps. I spotted the chairs all laid out and a wedding arch. We asked at the portable bar for drinks but he was winding up to transport over to the wedding. Another customer complained and a drinks waiter came up to service us. Wedding guests arrived, "I do's" were said in full view of most of the hotel guests. Wet towels remained untidily around the sun beds and empty glasses not collected up. We came to use the pool again on the sunday afternoon. The lift door opened at the roof level and I walked straight out to large food transporting trolleys and staff arguing that some guest had taken the chicken dinner and should of had the pasta at - yes you have guessed - another wedding! All staff again, and there were a lot of them fussing around the wedding, were devoted to the wedding. Towels everywhere messily dropped around the beds and the bar again given over to the wedding. Totally surreal! Almost comical for a hotel of such purported standards but extremely disappointing to of paid more for this hotel and been treated as second hand guests. The hotel needs to work out where its priorities lie. I complained at check out and it was just noted but be aware of this if the rooftop is appealing to you. The car parking is quite expensive too and there are no short cuts unless you park far away from the hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
central and stylish

we stayed in a suite as we had seen some comments about the rooms being "cute". The space worked well - lounge area and large bathroom. Generally well appointed rooms apart from the minibar which did not seem to be plugged in so was never cold. the hotel provides tea and coffee in the morning in the lobby and wine in the evening (5-6pm) there is no on site gym but they have an arrangement with the gym next door which was large and well equipped and around 30 secs walk. There is a pool on site (on teh roof) but it is only small and there are only c 10 sunbeds so you need to be quick in the morning. there are areas of other seating but at the weekend the hotel uses the roof space for weddings so these other ares were off limit. Way too noisy, bathroom no privacy

Not jazzed about this hotel, especially for the hefty price tag! You can read other reviews for an overview but these are my two deal breakers - Noise noise and more noise - Im writing this as I sit in our room with my baby in my arms napping because there is non stop noise in the hall and coming from the room next door. I can hear the guy coughing - walls must be very thin! And the non-stop thud of doors opening and closing all day (seems housekeeping is always doing someone’s room and is in and out in and out...)!! It’s not exaggerating to say it’s. All. Day. Long. Hallway noise day and night from guests is very disruptive. You can hear everything in these rooms - it’s like there’s no sound reduction at all. There’s also a sizable gap under the door that lets in everything. We are not on a low floor and we are toward the end of the hall - which other reviewers have commented could help noise, it doesn’t. Bathroom - The bathroom has double doors with shutters on them so you can hear everything, pretty gross. What is the point of this - isn’t it time to fix this Kimpton? Plenty of reviewers have mentioned it...Enough said. The set up leaves a lot to be desired for a supposedly upscale place like this. Disappointed - would not recommend and will not return.
