Great, upscale Hyatt property
Jul 27th, 2020
I stayed here as a sort of staycation from the monotony of the pandemic. I was in the market for a nicer, affordable 4-star property for just a Saturday night. Hyatt has done some nice work with their brand portfolio (Andaz, Park Hyatt, etc), so I was attracted to the new Centric concept. At a grand total of $95 on Hotels.com, as well as how nice the pictures made it look, I was willing to take the risk. Although we're in the midst of a global health crisis and this hotel is currently undergoing new branding from its former masthead, I was overall pleased with my stay. Pros: 1) The hotel clearly knew how to handle concerns about cleanliness during a global outbreak of a new, deadly illness. At check-in, I was directed to a packet detailing the extensive measures the property was taking to ensure the utmost in sanitation measures. 2) I was given both a late check-out and an upgrade to the next highest room category (King to a King Deluxe) at check-in. Having worked in hospitality before, I'm aware that hotels often provide both these things when it's later in the day and occupancy rates are lower. But for the rate I paid, it was nice they treated me. 3) Rooms are well-appointed, airy, and sophisticated. 4) My coffee and shave kit were delivered within 10 minutes of my request. 5) Everyone on staff was professional, polite, and well-informed. Cons: 1) Given the lull in the hospitality business right now, I was surprised to see that the phone still had the former Grand Hotel branding listed on it, as well as on the back of the door. When I ordered pizza, I also had to inform them the hotel had changed to the Hyatt Centric from the Grand. 2) The TV was not Smart TV enabled, which is far more common and preferred these days. The WiFi also had a tendency to disconnect when a device was out of use. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nothing Grand about this

I realize Corona Virus has caused changes. That should not mean that a hotel should be lacking on cleanliness and the health of hotel staff and guests. My bf booked a room on 4/22. Was given a room on the 15th floor. Clearly the hotel is going through a remodel on that floor, possibly others. My bf arrived at hotel before I was able to do so. When I had entered the room, it was 87 degrees. The AC would not get the heat to come down. While the room was beautiful, there was a layer of Sheet Rock dust from the remodel taking place. Clear signs of this remodel can be seen just from walking the hall. You could taste the dust in your mouth. Everything in the room covered with dust. I called front desk. We were moved to the room next door. Only to have the room be layered with dust and the heat not being able to cool. That’s when I learned, that security was taking over the front desk. Larry, who was wonderful, mentioned he couldn’t give us room keys. There was no hotel staff during night hours. So, we were in a room without HOTEL KEYS!!!! Not Larry’s fault. Out of any floor, why were we to stay on a floor that has construction going on??? I had to leave and sleep in the car due to my asthma. Next day when staff were back at desk, they stated there was nothing they could do for us. What lack of professionalism. Just because Corona Virus is going on. Cheaper rates doesn’t mean giving guests an unpleasant stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Minneapolis Grand Hotel

Located downtown very convenient to US Bank Stadium and many places to eat and drink. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was very professional and helpful. Hotel is in process of being updated and our floor was totally updated. Minimal disruption during their renovations, you would hardly know it is happening. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Pet friendly yet clean room

Brought our border collie for a reunion with my son who studies at UMN. Grand was outstanding. Check-in was great and the front desk clerk was spot on recommending nearby green space. Would have been nice if the water was hot for the hot chocolate in the lobby. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Service could have been better

We were staying at the Grand Hotel for my wife's birthday, and just wanted to relax and go to a nice hotel. We have been to many nice hotels in Minneapolis and decided to go back to the Grand Hotel. We made reservations about a week before, but the morning before we go an email saying the hotel was under construction. We emailed back because we were concerned about noise and were told it would not be a problem. It was not, but the construction was, the smell of paint was strong in the hall and in the room. We even called down to the desk to have it checked out. they said they would send someone up. After 30 minutes no one came up and I called back down to the desk and they said someone was up and it was just the paint smell, not weed like we had thought. They did offer us free breakfast, which was nice but it would have been nice for someone to give us a call or even talk to us in our room. It is hard to believe they knew what smell was in our room since no one came into our room. We also had housekeeping repeatedly knocking on our door a little after 8 am on Sunday morning. That seemed early to have housekeeping coming around on a Sunday. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
